I just got the set yesterday as sort of a Christmas present for our o scale Christmas layout. It runs really well and it’s my first lionchief (or new Lionel set for that matter) set and I love it!

I have the old version of the Polar Express, it had a separate hand rail made out of metal. It only ran on track power though but still is in my collection since 2013. Maybe once my train table is cleared up I can make videos on it.
I have that version, too. I'm happy I got it, but now I'm troubleshooting, it starts and immediately stops with no life when placed on the track. I came here to find videos of it for reference but little luck.

Problem is I would want 20-50 feet more of tracks, but the cost of tracks is crazy
You should review some of the high end new legacy locos with the kinematic pilots.

I got the fancy one that you got the hot chocolate add-on with the set
Just got this yesterday. It worked fine. Today I noticed the sound was getting worse. The chuff sound was skipping a few chuffs after every few chuffs. Is their a fix for this by any chance. I really don’t want to return it.
Here is what I recommend with this train. You should put 2 of the figurines like the engineer and the fireman in the cab, put the conductor and the hero boy on the roof, and with the observation car platform, I recommend you to use a strip of duck tape to hold it on the bottom of the observation car where the platform goes
Thanks for the review. I have never had a train set before buying this set. I was going to say that this was a great review up until I saw your Colts jerseys. I grew up 14.4 miles from Foxboro Stadium. So I'll have to lower your review to a 9.5 out of 10. LOL Merry Christmas

Thanks for reviewing The Polar Express train set. As much as I'm fond of the wireless remote control, I prefer a more traditional type of transformer control. At least for O gauge. Great review by the way. Don't worry I won't tell ericstrains about this.

ZScaleRay I actually have a polar Express but it runs with a traditional transformer. It's very nice especially 1 thing it has compared to the lion chief polar Express... It has actual rails on the sides!
I have a Lionel O gauge Polar Express. It's the older set. Probably from 2004. Hallmark that year also came out with the Polar Express in Lionel mini trains as they do every year.

I now have it and I bought it on Amazon less than $300. Good deal too. I realized then that last year, Lionel announced the Bluetooth version which sucks because I would of have that instead. but oh well, at least i got the set. go check my video from last year. this year is gonna be different, and i'll be posting it as soon as I have it finished.

Got the 2005 version with 80 watt transformer. Looks the same.
We just got this set. How should I incorporate this set? Should it be for just Christmas time around the tree? Or can I incorporate this into a train set we wanna make. We have a HO set harvester set in a box. Is HO better for marketing a big train set?

I'm having a problem hooking the trains together - they are falling apart. How did you hook the train together?
There are knuckle couplers at the end of each car and tender. This is how the cars hook together to make the train. On the couplers is a small little round lever that pokes out from the side of the coupler. Push down on it to open the coupler. Push the cars together, the couplers will spring shut on contact. If that doesn’t work, the coupler may be sagging and it comes unhooked. This is an issue on many model trains. It can more than likely be fixed by tightening the screw that holds the coupler in place. Hope that helps!
Although more substantial in quality, in terms of size/scale are these the same size as the less expensive Polar Express ready to play train? Trying to find compatible tunnels/bridges for the ready to play set. Any feedback is greatly appreciated :- )
The ready to play set is quite a bit bigger and is like a g gauge train but will not work on g gauge track, it will only work with the included track so finding tunnels and bridges might be hard. Hope this helps

You can find a good deal off the Polar Express from eBay. I did an unboxing video and If you want, I highly suggest buying from ebay

Don't go to fast. The engine might derail. It's happened to me before. Since my O gauge Polar Express is older it doesn't have a hand held remote control and no chuffs. The only sound it makes is a whistle.
I want one of these trains
they are the best, I just set mine up yesterday. But you need to be very careful with them and if even one wheel isn't on the track the whole train stops

Steam locomotive looks nice but the tender looks like crap. They could of done better with it, it's too far away from the engine and it looks too small for the steam engine, and i think it should have 3 axles per truck instead of just 2
James, I believe the little wheels you call hand brake detail in the video, are actually for automatic uncoupling. Here is a link to the uncoupling track that does not come with the set

The $100 models are a larger scale, but have a plastic engine and are battery powered.
