    • @CTS55555

      @@jakefriesenjake you make a good point. The hemming fee also includes the labor and some of them hand stitch the hems which take more time.
      I was able to afford $15 a pant a year ago to get all my pants hemmed. Up to this day, the hemming has stood strong through several washings and dry cycles.
      Now, I am wanting to save money and will try hemming this method for the two new pants I bought.

    Using a steam iron helps the fabric glue tape set easily. Because the pants may be narrower at the bottom than at the fold or the bottom once it is rolled up to shorten the pants, you may need to open the inside leg seam and spread it a bit to avoid unwanted tucks or gathers in the ironed hem.

  • @robira1313
    @robira1313 Před 8 měsíci

    I wonder if it's a good idea to actually snip off that original 1/2-inch hem that the jeans come with. Then it would lay much flatter when ironing the tape on.

    • @efd
      @efd  Před 8 měsíci

      You can do that, only concern is that with a cut edge, it will fray over time. With the tape method, you can't really roll and protect the exposed edge.

      You can’t really undo it, the tape melts and fuses with the fabric. You might be able to get it apart but I would be worried about tarring the fabric. It does not come out in the wash unless you don’t get it fully fused. Take your time and just make sure it’s how you want it before applying heat

    The original hem is of a smaller circumference than where it meets the leg when folded and results in surplus fabric pleating. I'd suggest you learn to sew or find someone who can. Trouser hems like this are pretty basic, but blind stitched ones are more difficult and require a special machine or be very carefully hand sewn.

    Sure was refreshing to watch this and not have to try and tune out awful music or a lengthy backstory. I’m going to do this instead of using my temperamental demon possessed sewing machine. 5 kids and no time to lose!

    For Pete's sake, it's easier to just stitch the hem instead of faffing around with the tape!!! --which might not hold anyway!!!

      i wouldn't use steam. I think including water will weaken it.
