  • The Schwinn Coston DX 27.5 Review is a commuter ready electric bike with upright handlebar, adjustable suspension seat post, and comfortable plus sized tires. It comes with sturdy aluminum alloy fenders, a rear rack, and integrated lights. In addition to the front and rear lights, there are two highly visible light bars built into the sides of the downtube battery pack. The bike is available in two frame sizes, two colors, and Schwinn also sells a step-thru version! Decent 7-speed drivetrain with wider 14 to 34 tooth freewheel. Durable sealed 12 magnet cadence sensor for pedal assist and a variable speed trigger throttle. Protective chainring guard and color matched chain cover keep you clean. Excellent weight distribution, cable integration, and unique saddle storage box. Lower capacity 250 watt hour battery pack and 350 watt geared hub motor. Slower 2 amp charger (but it's very light and compact). Fairly heavy overall weight considering it doesn't have a suspension fork.

Good to see more affordable bikes entering the market. All we need now is some financial incentives like various governments do for electric cars.

That would be great, maybe even a “bike highway/causeway” infrastructure plan like they have in Denmark around metropolitan cities. This idea is coming from a libertarian who wouldn’t really want to see government do much of anything, but if we are gonna waste money on stupid things, making Americans half as obese would be a plus.

Its still in a weird spot price wise. Thsi goes against most of the models from Radpower and Aventon, which are bettery values part for part.

Low capacity battery, low powered motor, mech disk brakes, $2000? Is this a suggested price where its actually always on sale for $500 off? I don't see this doing very well at that price point.

I liked schwinn years ago, they where great bikes when they were made in USA . Then they started cutting corners and made in other countries. They are cutting corners on this bike with the motor. The lights on the side are cool but for that price it should have at least a 500w peak750w motor.

Hey Curt, yeah I see areas where it could be improved a bit... but this seems to be much better than the older Schwinn ebikes I looked at a few years ago, so they seem to be headed in the right direction :)

Nice review Court , not a very powerful bike but enough for ease of riding . I have a similar hub motor which I did the conversion on my old bike as 250 w 32volt is the max in Australia . I have a lot of fun riding and can get 25k speed and 40/50ks on one charge and that’s enough for me . Keep on charging and reviewing as your very thorough :-)

Great review - which I follow. It would be great to know about different bike's range. I.e. how many miles/km can you get out of the battery. And hence the miles/km per Wh.
There's lots of factors in measuring range. However, your on the on-the-road findings would be helpful. Thanks for inspiring and informative reviews.

Ebike prices getting more affordable which is nice to see! These days there are so much variety so it would be nice to see your take on top 10 bikes for 2022. For example what would you suggest for all year around(snowy/icy winter and hot summer days) faster commuter ebike in the 3000€ range? Option to change speeds during riding with a button press for different terrains would be amazing but seems like the eggrider display is one of the few to offer this for some middrives. Some specs I'd like to see: Minimun 17.4ah battery, full suspension would be a plus and middrive for torque (helps if it's an fatbike and on snowy winters with hills). Any suggestions?

The most funny thing ist the power button on the frame. It’s on the position, where every bike collects the most dirt etc. hope they seald it so well, that it works after two years of commuting.

This bike is trying really hard, not to be a Hyper E Ride Mountain. I don't like the upside down battery insert, but it is bigger than the Hyper battery. The motor is identical. They are great motors. Silent and sturdy by design, puts this motor on so many affordable E bikes today. The Hyper is half the price, of this bike, and they do sell spare batteries for about 200 dollars each.

I loved beating the ass of bullies.
The trick to convert them back into decent people was a specific formula.
You gotta first beat them, then stand there. Let them get up. Let them try as many times as they want.
Until they themselves can see they aren't anywhere as tough as they thought this whole time.
I was a trained fighter at the time as well at ah MMA school. So I dispatched of these dollar tree bullies
with absolute ease lol. It was damn near fun. best part? never ran short of bullies to beat up back in the 2000s.

Yeah, that's a pass for me! I don't get why these "name brand companies" charge so much when their components fall below what other brands offer! Ride1up for example, why spend 2k plus for schwinn or other name brands when new eBike manufacturers offer better shit on their China made bikes! 250w motor for $2k, no thanks, i work too hard to spend my hard earned money on motors and components that fall below the average 1000w motor bike you can find for $1700.
