I was 16 when Win95 came out and I convinced my mum to get a PC in Dixons. It had 8Mb and ran like a dog. After a few months I'd saved up £80 to get a 4Mb memory module and cycled an hour down to Dixons to get it. Got back and the PC wouldn't boot. Found out it needed RAM sticks in pairs. Had to borrow another £80 (which would take me 5 days of solid work to earn) to get the second stick to get to 16Mb when the machine would actually run well. Great days.

Aye it was 8MB. It would run in 4MB but like crap.
Didn't run great in 8MB either though especially with a 486. Pentium/poor equivalent was pretty necessary.
