    Great video, I went out and bought a soldering station and ordered a picoboot from ebay.
    I installed it a couple of weeks ago, it was my first ever experience modding a console, I had some trouble getting gp4 soldered onto the leg of the chip as I accidentally soldered a couple of the legs together on the chip, it took some time and patience to get away from that little mishap but eventually I got it installed and it booted into swiss first go!

    I am fairly new to homebrew, my first project was adding cfw on a psp1k and adding the relevant emus and roms which was fairly straightforward. In terms of this homebrew project, for the purposes of the sd2sp2 with the microSD slot, you still need to mod the rpi to the GC motherboard for it to work? Also, how do save games work as it pertains to the sd2sp2 method? I am a hybrid collector in terms of I would prefer oem but I am also a realist and realize that unless I want to shell out a lot of money for physical copies that are becoming scarcer, it would be more economical to emulate as needed/when possible. TiA for the read and assistance.

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  Před 2 lety +3

      I likely will need to do a deep dive on this exact topic to fully convey the differences, but the short version is the GCL is an optical drive emulator (ODE) and this is and IPL replacement which effectively is a replacement bios. Both use swiss as their front end, so no difference there. The biggest difference between the two beyond installation method and method of injecting their payload is the system bus they use to play games/homebrew. Based upon my research the GCL uses the faster bus and will load games/homebrew faster. The downside to that is you loose your DVD drive. This allows you to keep it but will not load games as quickly. I could likely do a deep dive on the topic and likely will as I wouldnt mind doing some testing and putting some numbers to what I am saying.

    hey yo.
    is it possible to still boot into the normal gamecube bios / home menu?
    for example by having no IPL.dol file, but instead a B.dol file? so i can f.e. hold B to boot into swiss,
    and when doing nothing - having the gamecube act as it isn't modded?
    that would be cool and a reason for me to remove my old xeno mod chip.

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  Před 2 lety

      yes you 100% can do that! You can also just use something simple like a sd gekko and remove it to boot to normal bios

      They are not too bad at all. I would just take your time and follow the install diagram pretty closely. I talked about my technique in the video and I think it worked pretty well. The hardest points are those on the IC. However, there are 5 points in total, which isnt bad at all!

      If you hold one of the buttons that does not have a dol file associated it will skip the Swiss bootup and load the bios/disc normally. So hold B while booting to load standard bios or disc.
