  • Had some fun unboxing a few new arrivals to the pedal library at the top of the episode. Great new stuff from Gojira, and a bunch of pedals fresh in from Ampeg. And then we're straight into an hour-long Q&A. So whether you're a beginner bass player, or a seasoned pro, or somewhere in between and just curious about pedals, there's something in here for you.
And there are so many great questions today! From what my very first pedals were when I was 15 years old, to my advice for what I think might help you get started with bass pedals. We went hard today! Bit Crushers, pedals I want to check out, octaves, choruses, pre amps, harmonizers, looping... it was almost never ending!

@@janekgwizdala Also, on the whole idea of envelope filters, I know it doesn't have the expression option like the Iron Ether, but the Mr. Black Fwonkbeta is something I would check out. It can get you some REALLY dubby sounds on the lower part of the filter. That and my OC-2 are monstrous!

It's a great design idea indeed. That Japanese pedal is definitively made by Aria, that serie was sold as OEM under a lot of different names.
I think that Nobels took a similar approach with their pedals in the 90s except they're metal casing, not plastic, so much sturdier.

Hey Janek, two pedal suggestions :
    - a great phaser from the old school days of Boss: the Ph1r (updated version of the ph1 with additional Regen knob)
    - a cool always on compressor with a preamp /coloring aspect : the famous yellow Diamond bass compressor (the Jr version runs on normal power supply rather than weird 18 v reverse polarity)
There are so many different pedals out there, keep the good videos coming, it's much appreciated!

Hey Janek, I actually worked with Jeff Davis over at Damnation Audio on a looper pedal built specifically for the Woolly Mammoth. In fact, in an email to him I jokingly referred to it as the “Mammoth Tamer” and that’s what he ended up calling the mod. Since the buffers in a loop blender like the Exotic Effects X-Blender absolutely destroy the Woolly Mammoth, Jeff developed a buffer-less looper pedal for me that blends in your clean lows with the Mammoth and it’s killer. I haven’t tried putting the Woolly Mammoth in the effects loop of my HX Stomp, but I’d assume the Stomps effect loop would use a buffer that wouldn’t play nice with the Woolly Mammoth.

Hey Janek, you might consider shooting Misha Mansoor a message (maybe you have already considered!) He's building his own pedal company called Horizon Devices, I believe partnered with some super smart builders at MXR. Horizon Devices has several pedals out already and each one is kinda revolutionary and something new in the market. Misha's aspirations in creating new pedals reminds me of yours especially in that you both seem like you value "doing it RIGHT or not doing it at all," making sure your future product would be 100% worth the work involved. It would be cool to see a bass-specific pedal from that company and with your name on it, I'd be in love.
Wait, I'm remembering right now that you have jammed to Periphery a bit in some of your older videos...maybe you already know Misha or know of him. In that case my apologies :)

Could you perchance give us a run-through on how you use filters like the Xerograph? One thing I've found to be a potential stumbling block is input levels, so do you ever have challenges here from instruments with difference output levels?
