I love how Josh sees beauty in everything that makes music. Like, everybody going crazy about American Fender’s and the guy just go and talk really good things about the Mexican ones. And this goes for amps, pedals...what a nice guy!
Just got into this channel, and guitar in general, and this is one of the best things about Josh from what I’ve seen. He isn’t afraid to rave about a $25 pedal if it sounds good to him. For someone as knowledgeable as him, his humility and seeming complete lack of snobbery is refreshing! He likes what he likes and he spreads the love around.
Every guitar is magic in the hands of a good musician.
Ryan Ambrose or a good magician
Yeah but especially some of them.
So when can we talk about the guitar with the effects built in?
Line 6 Variax?
😆
Vox Special Effect Guitar?
Hickory McCay the one in the video he shows and talks about briefly before putting it away. He said it has some of his effects built in
@@kodas3366 Oh, yeah.
My Mexican Nashville Tele has never failed me. I still play it all the time. Every time I try a new guitar, it never lives up to what I want. That tele never ever fails.
Jeff Condit my mexi Nashville is my #1 teaching guitar and trade show demo guitar. It’s a beast
The Revelator looks like the 1950s idea of the future. I love it.
Hey everyone! Please check out the full description for info on the gear in this episode, our JHS Show Website, our new Patreon page, and links to gear and the record in Record Time. Thanks for watching!
JHS Pedals can I ask what those monitor speakers you have are during record time? They looks super cool!
Hi - great video like always - I feel like asking you to make a video of what gear/pedals would be the best so to record directly to PA or listen through studio monitors . A widely discussed topic but there is no video out there that really covers it . Another cool think would be to compare that rig to a normal amp based rig. There are so many of us that can't use amps and would be really helpful!
I need a MIG 50 in my life man. Alas, I has the poor : ( Had to sell my Sunn Solarus & Ampeg VT22 : ( I have an Orange Micro dark and a beater 4x12, but "loud is more good".
Love your channel! Cheers!
I have a request! But first let me tell you, I know a lot of stuff, but not about every stuff. ( I'm not going to win any consolation prizes, am I? )Anyway, I wanted to try a pitchshifter pedal, but it needed to be cheap just in case I didn't like what I heard. So I got a Donner harmonic square. So far I am neutral. It does make some very cool sounds, and it also make sounds that might be useful to somebody else. I want chords to sound a tiny bit warped, something to make people uncomfortable. My entire pedal board is very simple. I have a version one charlie brown, an analog delay by some company that is so cheap they could afford to write their name on it (but it's very nice) I have the Donner pedal mentioned earlier, a rocktron hush, (plus I have an OD-1, and a MXR compressor, a zoom 606, and a POD 2.0 but these previous pedals get zed action, because I've used up all the 9V power on my pedal power, and I'll start a fire. All coming from a 1993 Les Paul, or a 1966 Mosrite Venture, or an SG with 3 humbuckers, or a Lyle 720, or a Prophecy Plus GX, or a Texas Toast Barracuda, or a Gibson Marauder, and into a 100 watt Carvin V3, w/ 4x12. So that said, do you think, you would like to make a show, where you maybe show us all, the cools stuff you know about pitch/harmony style pedals? If not, that's cool I'll understand, besides I still have the 12V, and 18V connections on the voodoo labs thing. So I'll think of something creative to do.
@@BillVespa They look like KEF LS50s to me - the wireless version if I'm not wrong. Personally not a fan but they do look cool
Guitar guy: so how many pickups do you need on your guitar?
JHS: All of them. All. Of. Them.
Guitar guy: so you want a H-H, H-S-S or S-S-S?
Josh: Yes.
Pick up swaps are relatively easy way to get a new sound! The equivalent of a speaker swap in an amp.
Swapping magnets is a great way to change a pickup for $5
Emmanuel Alejandro Like Bootsy Collins. That dude has basses with about 10 pickups in it! 😄
Emmanuel Alejandro Yup. Hey, Manny, how many guitars do you need? One more, right? Just one more....
Glad you are showing some love to a Mexican Fender. For the life of me, I can't understand why some look down on them
françois luong They are workhorse guitars, stay in tune and sound like a Fender should. I really enjoy that line.
Liking whatever is playing in the background. Will check out Ben Howard's album. Thanks for the rec
@@erictoniaschwab1009 My Fender Standard Strat is my favorite playing guitar right now
françois luong the Mexican strats seem to be the best value for a touring workhorse guitar. Where if it gets stolen it's not too much to replace it.
@Know One huh...?
I bought my first guitar in 1992, a blue MIM strat for about $300 if I recall correctly. I played the heck out of it before life distracted me from music for many years. When I came back to it, many moves, dust and neglect had rendered the electronics a bit dodgy, so other guitars got most of my attention. I recently replaced the pickups and electronics with a Fishman set, and I was amazed to discover how good it really is. It is probably the best playing guitar I own, beating out its much more expensive companions by quite a margin.
Not surprised my MiM Strat and Tele are great The Tele is a 60th Anniversary model...Strat is a lovely maple neck lake placid blue model and was my main gigging guitar for quite a while cause didn't want to gig with my vintage stuff So that's saying it was comparable to the old one's Easily a 500 dollar guitar but nobody want to even pay 300 for it so will just keep it Oh well Thanks for your cool story
That bilt relevator is one of the sexiest guitars I've ever seen
Omg I have always wanted to make the jonny greenwood guitar. That is a beast
jordan74 same!
I love that it was the first guitar he played too.
I just need the cut off button. How can I get it?
Ben Howard is one of my biggest influences and that's a killer album. In dreams is real fun one to play. Small things and end of an affair are also incredible in his use if delay on the acoustic. So great
I'd love to hear some recommendations of other similar singer singerwriters that also have very dynamic acoustic guitar playing like Ben does.
I would straight up love an episode of "house is on fire" hypothetical questions.
Guitar?
Pedal?
Amp?
Family Member? (haha)
Josh, you rule! Thanks for plugging into the L.A. Lady and True Spring. Great underrated songwriters? Check out Mark Mulcahy's record, "Mark J. Mulcahy, I Love You."
sourceaudioeffects love my Nemesis and Ventris. Please build one for all mod effects 🙏
late to the party but i love that one of my favorite pedal companies is also a true blue mark mulcahy fan
@@maxcohen7512 Love Mark's solo stuff. Also a huge Miracle Legion fan - HUGE! I'm glad that you dig Source Audio gear - thanks.
OMFG I LITERALLY DREAMED ABOUT MAKING SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THE REVELATOR 3 YEARS AGO!!! was not sure about the logistics of the switching thanks for showing me anything is possible!
Awesome to see Elliott Guitars on here! I live like ten minutes away from the small shop and was super surprised to see you mention them!
Great album from Ben Howard! I might now have to go back and re-listen to it. Come to think of it, the song “Conrad” was on the playlist I made for my daughters birth. It’s two years ago next wednesday!! Time flies, and that song takes me right back.
Another great songwriter (and killer guitar player) is Daniel Norgren, especially “The Green Stone”, which also provided a few songs for that playlist ☝️ I would encourage anyone reading this to give that album a try! And if you catch him live... you’re in for a real Swedish treat 🙏
Great songwriter: Mike Feuerstack (Wooden Stars / Snailhouse ) . So many good albums. Both solo work and collaborations are great. Julie Doiron & the Wooden Stars is a great example of great music among friends.
I'm so glad you showed off that Relevator, ever since I first saw you use it it's stuck in my head as the Starship Enterprise of guitars. Love the retro-futuristic 50s styling and color scheme.
Also look forward to your future series on the "Philosophy of Guitar."
Absolutely awesome Josh. Love everything you're doing. Your star is continually rising!
Whoa whoa whoa, who the heck hates on Mexican teles? I’ll take my Mexican Baja tele all day!
Real Heel Ryan same! I have a Mexican Seafoam Pearl Tele with humbuckers. My pride and joy! 🙏🏽
Real Heel Ryan The Baja Tele is one of the best Telecasters that Fender makes. I haven’t seen its new replacement from the Vintera Series yet, but it seems to still be great from the videos I’ve seen so far.
Amen
@@charlesbolton8471 I picked one up and thought it was super cool but I couldn't jive with the baseball bat neck.
Baja Tele brother, I’m with you
I loved that podcast! It was my first introduction to the JHS brand and you! I wish there were more.
I'm so happy you went into detail about your Bilt. That thing is incredible!
That kill switch on that tele is awesome. I want one
Dax Riggs is such a great singer and his songwriting is simplicity at its best.
He makes every guitar he holds look like a travel guitar
SO hyped for the site and patreon!
I fully expected that Revelator to have a corkscrew and nail clippers, ala swiss army knife! :D
"Relevator", it slices, it dices, it takes your wife to Europe on vacation.
@@xmillion1704 :D :D :D
BEAUTIFUL VLOG!!
Wonderful guitars! Love them all! Nice one Josh...
I was listening to Guided by Voices this morning. Bob Pollard is one of my favorite songwriters. His sense of melody is amazing.
Love that Fano! Check Tyler Bryant’s albums. Amazing songwriter, great guitar player and singer as well
você por aqui?
Fantastic slide player as well
Finally another fan of him
thanks for steering me in the direction of Ben Howard, good stuff!
Thanks so much Josh for the Source Audio luv !
ah that is such a good album! I'm so happy you did it.
Ooo! That killswitch on the Tele... Nice!
I've owned that same tele in black. Definitely on par with the higher end models!
Ben Howard is fantastic. His song Old Pine is a masterpiece and should be carried by Voyager on side one of The Sounds of Earth.
Great video as usual. Thanks.
That Revelator guitar is definitely my fave, if only for the aesthetic. Would love to see more of their stuff.
thanks for turning some of us on to Ben Howard ! enjoying "she treats me well" right now
That Ben Howard album is one of my most favourite albums of all time! Great to see it on the show :)
I really like your videos. I learn a lot. Thanks!!!
Great taste in guitars! Cool stuff
Thanks for the album reccomedation! Really digging Ben Howard!
Nice shirt! And that Ben Howard record is great.
Love the first Tele. I bought an ‘89 Tele Plus when it was new 30 years ago that is still stock and will never let it go. Always good to see someone else who appreciates them.
Even though he's not super unheard of, I don't really hear a lot of people talking about Syd Barrett. I love his writing. It's not trying to be a message about something or anything else, it's just pure, fun writing. It's one of my favourite styles of writing.
Ben Howard is amazing. Finally was able to see him live in Chicago last October after listening to him for years. Favorite musician by far.
My Nashville telecaster is my first electric guitar. Glad to see that someone like you has one also
Love the Porter A90’s!!!! And the fuzz tone you got!!
Thank you for letting me discover Ben Howard, that album is AMAZING.
I look down on my MIM Baja Tele every time I play it. Love it.
Jack Minear snapped the neck on mine but prior to that it was my favorite guitar I’ve had.
Very cool, Josh. We needed that. Loved that Nash. Very on point, for the lack of a better term...
As for the song writers: Sixto Rodriguez, John Smith, Collin James and Ben Poole come to mind.
Cheers
No waaaaaaaay! Can't believe you mentioned Ben Howard's album, He's so underrated, and talented, definitely one of my music gems
Also BIG up Bilt Guitars. I live in kcmo and it's nice to have a cpl quality innovators like you two gentlemen.
Love that Tone Master- Andy Elliott is my neighbor so I get to see lots of his new ideas. One day maybe I’ll get to own one of those tone masters.
It's like when Homer's brother asks Homer to build a car for his company...Just kiddin, love the show and love your insights on Audio. Greetings from Argentina!
Ben Howard's "Old Pine" stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. I've never sat and watched a pine tree fall during a campfire but something in that song takes me to a camp fire in my soul. Love it. Love his music.
Fun video!! Cool Collection!!
Thanks for turning me on to Ben Howard. Great stuff! I'll always remain infatuated with the massively deep catalog of my favorite songwriter/performer/producer/vocalist/multi-instrumentalist/hardware & software designer, Todd Rundgren.
I love Ben Howard and that album so much. I just bought his album Every Kingdom on vinyl the other day
Dont’t know if you’ll see this Josh, but Vic Ruggiero is, in my opinion, one of the best living songwriters. He’s best known for fronting The Slackers, but his solo work is equally evocative, direct, and poetic.
Great vlog. Thanks! Interested to hear the Greenwood mods. That kill switch is sweet. Also psyched to hear your shout out for Ben Howard. I grew up in the same town as Ben and have a few mutual friends ;-) I also love that album - but glad to hear your glowing review of the most recent which I haven't added to my collection as yet (I do have the glorious limited Burgh Island EP as well on vinyl, which is sweet). Will have to go get the new one too now!
I will add my recommendation; Nicklas Sorensen: Solo 1, Solo 2 and his recent collaboration with Jonas Munk Always Already Here. That's on my turntable right now.
3:10 awesome tone
Source Audio are really pushing the boundaries with digital effects... Great company.
Josh, that’s awesome that you talked about Ben Howards’ album. I’ve been a fan of Ben since his Burgh Island EP, and have been a loyal fan since. Every album he’s written seems to be better than the last.
Analog Snob: Digital pedals sound awful. They lack any “organic” characteristics.
Source Audio: Hold my DSP.
A long time fan here 🙌🏻 Been listening to Ben Howard since 2011 👌🏻 Talented musician/Amazing artist. Love his work 🎶🎵
One of my fave lesser known songwriters is Ben Kweller. Absolutely love everything he’s put out
Love your passion and explanation of the Bilt RELEVATOR... those tones are as varied as Brian May’s guitar!
I also have a 97 Mexican Tele and have heard the same from friends that have played it. I've also heard the fire story and have always wondered if it's true. Killer collection!
Ben Howards in dream's is awesome. thank you for telling me about this! Bought it!
Love the Bilt and Fano. Two incredible offsets. Wow!
Sweet collection of axes, Josh.
The Revelator is actually so sick color scheme and everything-MIND BLOWN
Nice glimpse at these guitars. Of course, I can't wait for the episode featuring your Rev with your circuits Bilt in.
I've had a lot of MiM & MiJ Fenders, and they're all really nice to play. Being relatively inexpensive, they've all had multiple p'up swaps.
Yes! Yes! YES! Again another album I'll surely never be able to live without. Great recommend... again.
Ben Howard is amazing. Thank you for introducing him to me.
I loved Ben Howard! Tks for the tip!
I really want to thank you. The Ben Howard record is like where has it been all my life? Really great. Your show makes life good. It just a hit me that I like bicycles and guitars. Pedals. It’s the pedals.
My first good guitar was a Japanese Tele that has had a ton of pickups in it over the years. I have a extra hole for a mini pot between the stock ones that I have a plug in now and I’ve had humbuckers, mini humbuckers, Strat pickups, Tele pickups, Lace Sensors, hot rails, little 59s and probably some I don’t remember. It became my “special project” guitar for a while I would put pickups in for some specific recording or song. It ended up with the electronics stripped out and I finally went back a while back and put the stock pick guard and fairly traditional Tele pickups back (the stock pickups are long lost). I’ve played it for so many hours it definitely shows it and the frets are worn but it has a special place in my collection and it’s worth a lot more to me than anyone else would ever pay for it.
I suggested his albums to you along time ago on here. So that’s awesome that you already knew his work. Ben Howard is one of my favorite artists. His guitar playing is incredible. “Oats in the water” and “black flies” are my two favorites. By the way I’ve got to check some of your pedals out. I’m getting ready to buy an Angry Driver so can’t wait to play through that pedal.
Great Episode, really loved the Nash. One of my favourite singer/songwriters right now with a killer rhythm tone is Brolly. I think you'd like him a lot!
I feel like i'll never have a guitar that plays or sounds as amazing as those. The Nash Tele and the Elliot tonemaster were my favorite of them all!
I. LOVE. Ben Howard! Thank you so much for mentioning him! My favorite songwriter that doesn’t get enough love is Andy Hull from Manchester Orchestra, including his other bands like Right Away, Great Captain!, and Bad Books. Thanks for the Videos!
loved this video
I really dig this video. It’s something a little different but not different enough not fit in to the style videos you make. Can’t wait for the next video.
Cheers to hair horns! Big Ben Howard fan. He has a very original yet still familiar sound that I dig.
Look up for a Brazilian brand called Giannini. Italian immigrants that made some cool guitars from the 60’s on.. Some are copies of classic shapes but they did quite great original one like the acoustic and electric craviola. Cheers
Pedro Toledo I have a ‘69 Giannini classical acoustic that was my dad’s. When I was a kid I pretended to play that thing so it took a beating. It held up pretty well. The finish has aged nicely. The action is high but it’s got a great sound with the nylon strings.
I was anticipating hearing that white strat from the video’s thumbnail and now I feel outright bamboozled.
Thank you for giving me Ben Howard!
Just putting aside the awesome guitars for a second.... Thanks for bring up Ben Howard again. I don't hear his name come up that often and it's nice to go back and listen to him. His songs can make you feel some type of way. My favourite off the album is Conrad. That vibe just puts me in a different headspace.
Very nice sir! I share the love for Nash (I have JM-63) and BiLT (my shell pink, maple top, etc SS Zaftig arrives next week). Can't wait! You inspired my BiLT purchase. THANK YOU sir.
Wow they’re all amazing love the tele though 😉
Underrated songwriter: Richard Thompson.
Not sure about under rated, because Thompson is a fantastic songwriter and once people hear the material they tend to agree, but he does indeed not have the widespread recognition that a writer and player of his caliber should have.
Source Audio! Those are some awesome pedals!
Love your bilt, it's my dream guitar!
Ben Howard is such an underrated musician and guitarist! My favourite song from that album is end of the affair, such raw emotion... I like the new album just as much. Thanks for these videos Josh I really appreciate them!
I HAVE seen the new JHS Show website because I happened to be wearing my new Eclipsed by fuzz shirt while I watched this! :)
