- Today I'm telling the stories of five of my own pedals that I gave the axe. There's a time and a place for everything... but at least we get to relive these pedals and the moments we've had with them together, right? Would love to hear your thoughts on the War On Drugs and what your favorite song and album are in the comments.

Oh man, by the title at first I thought: "No way! Josh throwing pedals away???" Then I knew you didn't have the guts! LOL! How's that official website "rebuilding" going? Fairly new subscriber here. Keep up the loud is more good work! Greetings from Mexico!
Hi Josh, great episode, there are some products that I really wish would came back to production, like the Banana Boost, the Patriot combo and the Dual Fuzz.
I think you should do a Fuzelleta some day, pedal, were we can select different kinds of classic Fuzz sounds, like Germanium and Silicon FF, at least a Muff and a Tone Bender, a Maetro Fuzz Tone, a Xin-ei Super Fuzz, etc. It certainly would clear my board of at least half a dozen pedals.
@@TVicc Hopefully before the end of the year on the website! Thanks!
How can I get a Warble-Tron and a Patriot combo? I don't want them. I need them! Yes, I do have a problem. I knew you'd understand.
Website is more cooler! More Loud RULES! AS DO JHS PEDALS!!!!!!
Make a pedal that utilizes all of these effects, call it the JHS Zombie
A big ol' undead JHS superpedal? I'm here for it.
You spelled Josh-en-stein wrong ;)
I think this cat is onto something. Josh, paying attention?
Do it. Make the giant pedal
Yes!
The sounds of the Dead!
Josh, When you wrote your illustrated children’s book did Behringer write a cheaper generic equivalent book?
Made from Chinese rice paper. ;) I love my Behringer pedals though. Value for money! No shit!
Behringer rocks
Veer Chasm: Behringer DOES rock!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shots fired. Lolololol...great line. Trueeeeeeee.
I would love a Morning Glory/Klon dual overdrive. I’d totally buy one.
I've totally lusted for such a pedal for the longest time. Nobody listens.
@phillup bucket horse breaker
I made one....
@@benthebassplayer Well Friggen make more. With a flip flop switch. Reasonably priced it would probably make you some money and give pleasure to many a guitar nerd including myself.
@@deanmlshredder 😂😂 funny you’d reply today! I just shipped the one I made out to a guy who bought it on Reverb. I asked 200and took the offer of 185. When you say flip flop switch, you mean the gain switch, right? I used a PCB from PedalPCB.com and their PCB is version 1, with the hi-cut switch.
Maybe another episode could be about “Pedal Scandals?” Like when weird turn-of-events dramatically increased (or decreased) a pedal’s value. That would be pretty interesting.
That sounds amazing! The ony pedal I can think of is the VCR...
Imagine the lawyer fees....
Lee ..if he looks outside of JHS, there’s the Pussy Melter, the Vertex Axis Wah, and some other situations where manufacturers (often Far East) super blatantly ripped off a well-established circuit and got called out on it, yet the pedal goes on to be sought-after. He’s mentioned one or two in passing before I think..
Would definitely be a cool episode but getting a decent amount of the pedals might be hard..
I don’t think there’s any legal issues accurately reporting on cases where there was a legally established outcome (e.g. Vertex even has a webpage dedicated to the Axis debacle)..
That guy who rebadged Joyo pedals, or Devi Ever's endless bullshittery and drama, would be good candidates.
Cobain and the grunge pedsyl by dod
Wait, but how do I order the children’s book?
Legit want to know too, books are my daughter's favorite thing.
I want one
My daughters love unicorns!
My daughter loves unicorns too. I feel she has to have one.
Seriously. Put them up for sale. Or just include them with purchase of a pedal? My son would love one, and I’d make an excuse to buy the pedal just to get the book
Dude, I had a handpainted Klone. Sold it a year later. The only thing that didn't stop me from jumping off a cliff was that I sold it back to JHS. I miss that pedal so much.
I really wish you’d bring back the custom shop. That was such a cool thing to have, and a lot of cool custom designs came out of it. It was unique and what set JHS apart from other companies at that time.
While you play the univibe thing, the auto generated subtitles read:
[laughter]
[music]
No better way to describe a univibe!
*Primus example of a good t-shirt*
Underappreciated comment. Nicely done.
The War on Drugs is one one the very best bands I've ever heard! Great sound, great feel, almost perfect... WOD + JHS what a great match!
This is just as sad as going through Ben & Jerry's flavor graveyard 😢
I feel this man
@@doomsdaydanceparty7646 it's ok man, we're here for you.
Will you be doing a show on the JHS modded pedals?
DO IT!!!!
Someday!
@@jhspedals can "someday" be soon? Like, this year soon?
Totally support this.
@@thetribalist6923 or, or, no hear me out. Could "someday" be like....you're filming it now? No pressure of course. What kind of monster would I be to make demands................................. Side note. I just bought a soldering iron and will be, in the next few hours, destroying a DS-1. I don't know what I'm doing. Pray for me.
"YOU HAVE TO STOP NOW!"
Dude, you are so humble. I dig the personality. Enjoying the videos and hopefully will own many of your pedals one day. Cheers from Blanco TX!
Sick video. Dude, your Record Time was spot on AGAIN! First you helped me discover S. Carey and now The War On Drugs. You're pumping out fantastic content and I'm officially a big fan!
Oh...and that was quite a cheeky version of Wonderful Tonight 😂
How many killed jhs pedals do you want?
Reverb: Yes
Episode ideas: jhs pedals used on cool albums (with guests).
Great episode JS!
Coming fresh off the D.O.D video, I love how excited he gets about the subtle things. The puns, the imagery, the implications of things. It's wholesome, lovely, and entertaining.
Josh I loved this episode. i
It was great to look back and discover some of the earliest stuff you did. And that final message, which also applies to life in general, was so inspiring. I will think about that. Thx for everything.
That EHX Soul Food clone at the end was great!
when he brought out the panther delay, my breathing increased.
what i’d give to own one
A deeper understanding is an outstanding album, one of my favorites ever, no doubt. The tones, songwriting, everything is is just amazing.
Excellent vid!
Love seeing the old stuff. Makes me nostalgic for when I was figuring this pedal stuff out.
The panther cub is the one pedal I will never sell or get rid of. I’ll need to get it updated to the 1.5 someday, but right now it’s my favorite.
I had one of the first year Rat distortion pedals. It was actually my very first pedal. I have no idea what ever became of it now though, but wish I still had it. That was an awesome pedal.
"Basically defaced a vintage RAT" Love it!!!
I never cease to be impressed by your openness. Keep it up! Respect!!!
Drew Shirley playing the Bun Runner was the reason I heard about JHS in the first place. And it made me really really want one.
This has got to be my favorite sad pedal show! The pain and memories are REAL! Pedals We Kill.
Hey Robert. Haven't seen a post of yours since I quit HCFX! Congrats on going mainstream, was a trip seeing your stuff in the case at Guitar Center.
Love the "not so wonderful tonight" rendition.
Holy smokes is this ever a cool piece of history. I've seen some of these on Facebook groups and often wondered about them. Some people are really lucky to have those.
Always making great content. Thanks for another great video.
Love the sound of the Banana Boost!
My daughter needs that illustrated story book. Let me help you from just letting them sit there and rot
Yes! I was just thinking the same thing. We'll take one!!
I would also love a copy for my kiddos
I got one when our first kid was born, it's a lot of fun for this gear head parent to read.
My two boys would dig that too! Considering Josh’s talk in the videos eventually a great foundation for them to start with english language... ☺️👍🏻
Seriously, I don’t have any kids, but I would absolutely buy one just for the nicely and bc I’m that big of of pedal nerd 🤷🏼♂️😜😂
Great vid! The vibe is such a great pedal!
Great video. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I’ll take a copy of the children’s book. My daughter loves unicorns and reading new books. And I love guitar pedals and univibe pedals at that. Haha. It’s a prefect combo.
Loud is more good!!!
I got one when our first kid was born, it's a lot of fun for this gear head parent to read.
I second that! Can we order some?!
Again, ripe for comment, Joshster!
Your conversation with PRS reminds me that you are about the most opposite personality to him that could possibly exist. PRS never turns off the continuous hard sell of his own instruments, while you are pleased to talk about every other pedal in the world in addition to your own.
yeah i mean he only talks up other products like the ones ted mccarty made because mccarty made PRS what it is practically.
Very interesting stuff. And this is the first time you recommended an album that isn't already in my collection. So, I gave it a listen. I dig it!
Again killing it with another amazing video!!!
JHS Firefly: my favorite killed JHS pedal. An Ocean in Between the Waves: favorite War on Drugs song (check out the live on KEXP for best version, its on CZcams).
Imagine if Leo had a vlog about his projects back then.
Love the new intro, love your work. Inspiring
So I started watching your back log of content don't know why it took me so long to find your show. Literally been following earthquaker and walrus audio for years. I'm glad I found your show. Thanks for your music suggestions. They've been awesome. I'm going to throw one out there for you it's a little heavier and on a side of weird. Not sure if you've heard of them but it's King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard. They've got two kit drummers a bassist a keyboard player and three guitar players and pretty much assault you with a massive wall of filthy goodness. Thanks again man. Great content.
Josh, when you drop a pedal does Behringer automatically drop their clone of your pedal?
Ever since he dropped that behringer video yeah, it took em a minute to catch up to the catalogued
Check out Mother’s Cake, especially their first “live” album Off the Beaten Track. Sick funk rock prog stuff.
Hi josh! Loved the panther delay and your playing is lovely. When my little brother passed away last year I listened to disappearing off lost in a dream on repeat. The opening note is amazing. Love everything they do. Thanks for sharing!
"An ocean in between the waves" turned me on to The War On Drugs. Still my favourite song of his. Loving your videos btw.
Would love to see a modulation multi effects pedal from JHS like Strymon or Boss !
"Supera most loudest"
"Frequency fuzzy monster"
"Child in attic distortion "
"Smother mother compressor"
That Collings with the distortions sound absolutely ace! 👌🏼love that throaty tone.
Love your vids! I’m def gonna start buying your pedals
Me: I can't believe he got away with using the pink panther
Me: *oh*
Killed JHS pedals to make Killer JHS pedals 👌🏽
One of my favorite records and love the heavy use of Leslie effects on the guitar featured throughout! War on Drugs has always made me feel justified in my ridiculous pedal collection!
One of my favorite albums, not a bad song on it! Got into them 1st with Slave ambient and just keeps getting better. Saw them in '17 for a deeper understanding, one of the best shows ever.
JHS loud is more good. Dude, your volume on the amp is only on 3. Yes 3. 3 3 Should be 9 at least. Best pedalshow on you tube. Thanks.
I'm waiting for the pandamonium comeback. By the way best name ever.
Great video, great pedals, Nick you rock!
Josh I have been listening to "A Deeper Understanding" on repeat for days
...never heard of War on Drugs before this...thank you!!!
The Klon Centaur is the Black Lotus of guitar pedals.
rip the BUNRUNNER
I've said this before as have many, many followers. Josh, you are amazing.
Self-doubt is healthy, (as long as it doesn't turn into despair), because not only does it show you care, it enables you to grow and learn new stuff as you continue into self improvement
Wow...my favorite episode thus far!
What’s the deal with all of the 1/4” outs on the back of the original panther?
It has a tap tempo in/out jack, input jack, expression pedal jack, effects loop send and return, wet output jack, and dry output jack
Josh...
you do realize you’re like the Anthony Bourdain of pedals right?
Thank you. 🙏
Much as I love Anthony Bourdain, I hope Josh is in a better place than Tony was.
Thanks a lot for introducing me to the War on Drugs! I don't know how I lived to this day without them. Loved them.
Bro your videos crack me up. I'm putting having a beer with you on my bucket list
Klon creator: didn't enjoy the price of his old centaur
Also Klon creator: sell new version of centaur at 300/400
Mh ok
KC: I understand your distress over pedal prices, but comparing computers and HDTV’s that are produced by the millions in Chinese sweat shops to pedals made in the USA in limited quantities by workers paid a living wage with benefits is unfortunately not a fair comparison. I’m as bummed out as you are, but if you play Made in USA pedals you have to pay Made in USA prices.
KC Small price to pay for the love of electric guitar and effects. I have thousands of dollars worth of pedals and I WILL NEVER STOP. rock or fade away.
Wonder why he didn’t include the JHS VCR
Because he didn’t kill it. Just rebranded the circuit.
Absolutelty Badarse vid Josh... Loved hearing some of the history of your company... Nicely done on the Patreon page as well... Congrats on everything! Still hoping for a visit to us musicians here at AMS someday dude!
Love seeing the circuts!
“I’m not a fan of that price tag.” -sells pedals his kids made for over $400 🙄😂
I have a JHS Stateline and I love it! Sounds so good!
Put a smile on my face at the end of a frustrating day.
Thank you.
My favourite WoD album & saw them live in London - love it!
Thank you for recommending The War on Drugs. I would've never heard of them otherwise. Bought their album. Love it!
of all of your fabulous guitars, this is my favorite
Man, I love the giant knob in the corner of that blue univibeish pedal. I want one for my Muffaletta!
Got an Astro Mess Fuzz on Ebay because I'm a huge Switchfoot fan, I LOVE it. Especially stacking it with my Charlie Brown v2 (both set pretty low on gain). Would love to hear more about the Bun Runner in a future episode/your relationship with Switchfoot in general!
I legit was thinking about if you knew of The War On Drugs earlier today because of the Mac Demarco Record time in another video. They're a phenomenal band and this, as always, was a phenomenal episode!
The Panther Delay is still one of my all time favorite pedals 🤘🏻
Love The War on Drugs! Been waiting (very patiently I might add) for you to give them a Record Time of their own since I knew your taste in music would eventually lead to his door, and I am officially grateful to you sir. Ol' Adam Fuzzy-Wuzzy Granduciel they used to call him on account of his heavy use of fuzz (not surprised in the least that you mentioned his name and a fuzz pedal in the same breath). My favorite track from that album is Pain; another favorite is Red Eyes from their album Lost in the Dream - it has such a great driving beat, is awash in some juicy reverb on the vocals, and that bass saxophone throughout is such a killer sound. Who doesn't love a good bass saxophone - that's what I always say! For other Record Times check out Wild Nothings' album Indigo; also check out Colony House and Lord Huron. Thanks for your great videos, cheers!
The panther was a game changer, tap tempo and expression pedal with a loop, a delay geeks dream.
What a great band for record time. I can't think of any other band where I like every single one of their songs
Definitely, one of my favorite CZcams Chanel.
I've had "a deeper understanding" playing all day, coincidentally. It's so great.
this video was a throwback to what the show used to be like - thanks!
Wow!!! Holy crap man! I grew up in Ridgleand, MS!! Used to manage the old Alltel wireless on Lakeland Drive there across from Airport Rd. Never knew you lived in Ole Jacktown!!
I discovered you're CZcams channel fairly recently, and I love it, so I look at some of your pedals bit did I get a bit of sticker shock, you must make excellent equipment ☺
I LOVE your moonshine pedal. It would be cool if you did a deep dive into that. Or even some of your other pedals. It’s cool to hear the stories of how they came to be and how they evolve. I love this show
I have owned and sold so many JHS petals that I did not realize would become icons. I had a big box Panther, panther cub, a V1 Kilt, and one of the old JHS Klon clones. I should’ve kept them all!
Josh I hope you’re enjoying that Morgan PR12 you bought off me back in the day!
Josh, Killing It!
dude I was laughing just moments after this video started. Really I really needed that, thanks!
Love your videos man :-)
You lived in Tupelo Mississippi !!!!! And you worked in a music shop !!!! Are you a Elvis fan or was this just a coincidence? Craziness man. Until just a couple weeks ago I have completely ignored Elvis, my entire life. I decided to lesrn about him so I started reading and watching everything on him I could find. What a cool person he was. We owe alot to Mr. Elvis Presley. Its amazing how much he influenced modern culture. In ways you would never imagine.
Love the show :)
The Morning Glory / All American in the same enclosure is awesome. I’d buy that in a heartbeat 🎸
Cool episode! I have seen several different "panther" variants around used, and now I know the story!
Yesssss for A Deeper Understanding!
