I’m still not understanding what happens to that forearm once that huge vein is removed. It seems like it was quite a necessary asset to that region. What will be lost as far as movement, circulation of blood etc. and how will it be made up for?
Hey, I know that your question is 2 years old, but anyway. The cephalica has many connections to other veins - so the blood can still be transported through the smaller veins which remains in the forearm. The vein network of your forearm is pretty dense so it should not be a big issue in terms of transporting blood from the forearm back to your heart and lungs. There are many smaller veins, another bigger vein, called 'Vena basilica' and a radialis and ulnaris vein. Removing the A. radialis is a bigger deal, because therr can be some supply issues after the surgery, most people are suffering from a partial loss of their gripping qnd flexing strength in their forearm after the surgery, especially the M. flexor carpi radialis and M. brachioradialis are suffering from the lack of arterial blood, but there will not be any necrosis or something like that, because the tissue will still be supplied with blood through other smaller arterias and the Arteria ulnaris.
Very nice content...thanks a lot😊wonderful explaination
I've had something very similar done after a workplace accident which left the back of my Hand exposed. But in my case it was taken near the ellbow an rotated towards the fingers. Seems like they didn't cut it but layed some of the connections underneath the skin. Feel free to ask any questions
Please make a video on DCIA flap
