emperor could not have same food often, so it was usually hard for the emperor to have a favourite food as it carried the risk of people poisoning the favourite food. there was always a new rotation of the dishes that came out. the modern day royal cuisine is a collection (normal meal even for the emperor did not exceed 12 dishes) of what the seonbi (the upper class academics) ate with alcohol.
they had that, it was one of many procedure that was in place to stop attempts at poisoning. like all alcohol was made by a select few people, ingredient and its growers were hand picked and only grew produce for the king and such.

also, how much of the Emperor's food was chosen by the imperial doctors? I know they even had hot and cold (health, not temperature) foods to match temperament. and of course aphrodisiacs and birth control foods! way ahead of their time

If youre reading this, and you hate brocoli, keep in mind that u probably ate a shitty made one, because there are ways to cook brocoli that makes it taste fabulous

Tacio OB Broccoli leaf and stems are much much much better than the closed flowers. The stems are particularly tasty slightly pickled.

It was plenty of fun just watching this! It must have been off the scale to eat it! And I loved your couture!
Korean royal cuisine is also known for it's rather restrained flavor. They cook the food by gentle heating to keep the food something the emporer could eat everyday without being possibly upsetting to the stomach.
That's why things aren't cooked til they're browned. And the food is mostly kept mild in spice.

@7:52 you see a picture of a king and 2 GiMiSahngGoongs. They are higher-ranking court ladies (King's maids) who wait on King during his meal. The most import job of Gimisahnggoong is tasting every food on the table before King gets to eat any of it to make sure they're safe to be consumed by the king.

I don't think Mike doesn't like broccoli personally. He ever said that broccoli is not asian thing, so chinese food that has broccoli in it is not an authentic one.
I guess the same thing goes to Korean authentic food too . As in Indonesia, there is no traditional dishes with broccoli (at least where I am from, South Sumatera )

I like broccoli Japanese tempura style. the stems and tops are cut bite-size, marinated in combo of soy sauce, sweet rice wine vinegar (Aji Mirin yummmm) tossed with toasted sesame seeds, then tempura battered and quickly lightly fried. *to die for*

Broccoli is actually very huge and grows fast. So I don't think it would be expensive at all. It's easy to grow too.
