I started with towel rub 2 years ago then got a retwist in 2021 and then and now fully maintained

I don't retwist mine. I keep my dreads in that kiko style. Every now and then I'll take em loose long enough to try to get some of the dandruff and dirt out.
Honestly, I stay pulling the congos loose.
But besides that, every 3 months, I put my hair in kiko, and every other 3 months, I let my hair hang free.
I like Yoruba kiko because I can put my head down without the little strands of hair snagging and breaking on stuff. I'm active.
I love when my hair is out natural. It feel so good - like an herbal essence commercial -

My hair is constantly growing and I have a moist scalp so my freeform dreadlocks I keep in a bonnet usually or scarf. When I try to wear it down at work I spend to much time in the mirror because the roots just do whatever
But my haircare is unconventional I boil rice and ambunu and clove together and put that on my hair along with conditioner and oil

It just takes time, man. Just wash your hair like once a week and leave it alone. It also depends what hair type you have. If you have 4c for example, its gonna take about 1.5 months for your hair to lock up.
