- Birds Of Prey 2019 aims to bring a big screen adaptation of the characters to the big screen. Before we review that back in 2002 a live action TV adaptation hit screens lasting 13 episodes. In a post Batman and Joker world it follows Huntress, Oracle, Black Canary (sort of) up against Harley Quinn. Anyways it's bad that's why it's on Caravan Of Garbage.

#BirdsOfPrey #DCComics #HarleyQuinn - Zábava
Early 2000's CGI cityscapes are a forgotten art.
And thank God for that.
Just remember, effects don't have to look real to be good.
The sad fact is there might have been some PS2 games that looked better... lol
Probably not by 2001.
Spiderman on the PS4 looks *tons* better than the intro of that show, tho it is 15+ years newer.
They'd have freaked out over having a PS4 to render the opening scene on. That would have been Pentium III and Athlon XP back then, virtually no difference between the desktop and server chips.
Even the ones in the 90s Schumacher Batman films are great. And the cityscape shots in Catwoman (2005) are probably the best part of the movie... not that that's saying all that much!
@@schedelworld that's the only good thing about those movies.
Wait... the one called "Oracle" ISN'T the one who can see the future?!?
True Story: I won the official viewer contest for the BIRDS OF PREY television show. The original prize was a trip to Hollywood to visit the set of the program. However, the prize was changed because the show was cancelled. The new prize was to attend a taping of GROUNDED FOR LIFE as well as a weekend pass to Universal Studios Hollywood.
The funny thing is, I almost missed out on the prize all together. I was notified by mail. Back then, 99% of the mail that I got that was NOT from a relative or employment was junk mail. I nearly tossed out the prize letter without reading it. Thank goodness something compelled me to open and read the letter.
The trip was very fun. I went with my sister. The GFL episode was very funny. Universal Studios was intriguing.
That’s why you always open your mail kids
Did you ever actually watch Birds of Prey?
@@Meme_Lor Yes, I watched the program. Each week, a question was asked about the episode in the contest.
Wow I remember that contest
ahh yes. early 2000s where shows integrate some sort of games for audience participation. they were really desperate back then.
Comics Black Canary: Screaming really loud
TV Black Canary: lol, mind powers
The comic book Black Canary, the one who probably worked with Batman, was her mother
*WEEEEEEAAAAKKK!!!*
@@williamavitt8264 Yeah, but her daughter, Dinah Laurel Lance also worked with Batman as the second Black Canary.
This is how I feel about Grace Choi on Black Lightning...
Comics Grace Choi: Half-Amazonian, Asian-American w/origins from the multicultural, Egyptian Amazon tribe of Bana-Mighdall.
TV Grace Choi: lul shapeshifter
Well now she's a crazy Alice in Wonderland sociopath on Batwoman
Smallville was literally on at the same time, birds of prey has no excuse
Smallville and Birds of Prey were made by the same company.
@@JP317 Smallville had much higher production value though
@@lordbatman1206 That show also sucks. By comparison, in terms of having good characters and fight scenes, Birds of Prey was better.
Xander M You’re joking right? Even the worst episodes of Smallville are better than the best episodes of this.
@@xanderm6090 I was gonna say that "Smallville" had its problems too, although "sucked" is pretty harsh.
I maintain that seasons 1-3 were good on the whole, even if none of the individual episodes stand out as being particularly great. I heard that it was originally supposed to be 4-5 seasons, but it was so successful that they kept adding seasons. I'm not sure if that's true (and I still don't care enough to look it up), but it makes a lot of sense.
From the beginning of the season until the end, the story actually progressed, until season 4. Season 4 had several of my favorite episodes, but it was just kind of spinning its wheels; at the end of the season, nothing had really happened (which makes sense because they only had an idea for another season but they ended up adding 6 more, so they just had adventure after adventure, with no real story progression).
So... I have no problem with seasons 1-3, and 4 was fun enough, but 5-10? Throw it out. Real stupid to me that they more than doubled their seasons beyond what was originally planned, yet kept to their "no flying, no tights" rule. That rule made sense for only 4 seasons, but they added *SO* much stuff; they added Lois, and Metropolis... and then Doomsday! You can't add all this Superman mythos while maintaining that he's not Superman.
Solid casting though, I think. Welling was excellent, Rosenbaum ditto. Chloe was charming, although I guess that took a turn. I liked Erica Durance as Lois, and both Green Arrow and Aquaman (Thad!) were pretty solid, at least.
Lana sucked though. That actress can't act her way out of a paper bag.
Black Canary here is just prototype Cisco from Flash
Or literally Vibe in the comics...
oftheBlazingNinjas Vibe is Cisco
@@TDBCole he is on about how the guy said "from flash" instead of just talking about Vibe directly from the comics. As if Vibe was a CW creation.
Vibe is from the comics
Radin V obviously but Cisco is vibe
Love the "ACTION" logo in the bottom right of some of the footage, very much indicating the Canadian source of the stuff you're using. (Action was a Canadian channel that shuffled off this mortal coil long before it ceased to be.) Aussies commenting on a Canadian copy of an American TV show... it's so meta-colonial...
drjwww Ben from Canada is likely editing
Lincoln Bryant James does also say at about 8:10 that the episodes they watched had the logo
Does this mean we have to wait for them to Review Cyber6?

5:40 Quality insertion of Maclunkey there. Ben definitely earned his paycheck this week!
SW Dad Maclunky has to get a spin off. I’ll even take “Droids” level artwork but it needs to happen. COME ON DISNEY!!!!
Mac Lunky
I lost it at that part. 😂
So Mason saw the Birds of Prey pilot when it first came out but never saw Aladdin or The Lion King when they came out?
He’s nothing if not consistent
Animated is better leave my childhood alone
he was younger, naive
Mason’s got his priorities straight
You should do the old Lois and Clark show since they're doing another one. Its hella charming but corny as all hell
Gonzo The II that show was one of my favorites as a kid lol
I fully endorse this. I rewatched some of it recently. It's not bad, it's just VERY early 90s 😂
Oh! And do Superboy! For real Caravan of Garbage-quality garbage. The acting in the first season is so bad they surgically altered Lex Luthor to replace him with another actor in the second season. It did not help 😆
ariel gonzalez Same!
They're doing another one?
they will but they gotta wait till it's relevant so they can capitalise on it trending, because god forbid they cover content that doesn't tie in to something recent.

James, clocktowers literally exist.

I think they did use a miniature for some close-ups.

"Emmm it sucks" - Mr. SundayMovies
Such a solid review but not untrue xD
Still, the show’s brief appearance on Crisis on Infinite Earths was pretty cool.
Confirmed: Birds of Prey, Criminal Minds, and Breaking Bad are all set in the same universe
Also the price is right
oracle: "Yeah vigilantism."
So Black Canary is more of an oracle than Oracle.
This show at the very least had pretty solid versions of Alfred and Oracle.
Dina Meyer is an underrated actress. She starred in a bunch of great genre movies in the 90s. Starship Troopers especially.
Yeah.
Alfred was Mr. Pitt! XD

"Action" is actually Showcase Action, a Canadian tv channel which I believe no longer exists now.
Got shut down last year, became Adult Swim, apparently, though Action before that pretty much had a viewership of four people, all of whom worked in the control room.
Can confirm
it still exists in canada
Showcase Action, RIP.
@@Kasunoske No it doesn't. I work for a Canadian cable company and can confirm Action is gone or rebranded. Just can't remember which ha ha
I thought oracle/batgirl in this was pretty good casting. She was also in starship troopers. Dina Meyer. Too bad the show sucked.
Sir, I get you, sir!
She has also a very memorable Friends appearance.

Honestly I don’t think any of the main actors are bad it’s just bad writing.

Firefly/Buffy/Angel...... I sense a theme.
I remember watching the final episode of this. Being a kid, I never knew Harley's real name, so the Harleen Quinzel thing never mean anything to me. I always watch the show once a while and always wonder "who is this woman" she seems important. Then I was mindblown to see her in her Harley-esque getup in the final episode. "Oh! She's Joker's girl!"
The last time i was this early, Greedo hadn't said Macclunkey

They chose the weirdest way to relate her powers to a canary... she can see the future? Like a canary in a coal mine?
Why does that Batman at the end of Gotham looks like a damaged wax doll?
Scarecrow WISHES he could be that scary!
that's not Batman, that's The Mighty Mask. Baby Bruce wasn't near that tall, gotta be standing on someone's shoulders
I did NOT know that Dinah Lance in this is now Alice (the best thing in Batwoman). Mind blown.
Given that they screwed with the rest of Batwoman lore, she pretty much is the best part.
FIREFLY WAS 2002! Also Buffy, Smallville, Farscape, Stargate. No excuse.
Fun fact: this version of the birds of prey that you guys are talking about was wiped from existence by the anti-matter wave in(I think) part 3 of The CW’s Crisis on infinite earths
Batman + Catwoman = matrix abilitys?
Catwoman: bruce I can explain!

Smallville was around in that time...
I like that show. But it jumped the shark a good few times.
Smallvile sucked. Just another shitty CW melodrama.
Smallvile was a great idea, went on for way too fucking long and ended terribly.

Smallville has Terrible action and special effects but it had heart
Better show from 2002? Smallville, Buffy etc.

"She's the Bruce Willis movie in the Bruce Willis movie!"
Me: UNBREAKABLE!
EXCELLENT job Ben with the "What was better in 2002" thing at the bottom of the screen
I mean, Batman retiring isn’t just in the tv stuff, it’s a live action thing is general. Affleck and Bale both retired to go and be sad.
Just Bale's Batman quit in the movies. Affleck only retired irl.
danilocordani no like before BVS where he’s quit because robin’s death
Bale's Bruce didn't retire sad, he got Anne Hathaway in Italy. sounds not sad to me
@@GoddessOfWhim2003 he was retired between Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises
I think there's a difference in that kind of storyline though. When Batman retires it's because there's no reason for the Batman to exist anymore. Idk the BvS Snyderverse reason for his retirement, but like The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Rises, he's retired because the Batman is no longer needed, and he returns when things have gotten bad enough that he is. In this show it always felt like he left because he was traumatized and couldn't handle being Batman anymore. As for Batwoman, idk about that show, did he die or something? Or did he leave Gotham? That's the part that feels wrong.
This show was connected to Smallville and there was an easter egg in Birds of Prey where they mention meteor rocks giving people powers in Kansas... and Smallville at this time was at the top of their game during this time.
that maclunkey bit at 5:39 really got me
That side note killed me. Awesome editing.
"Kung fuing about" is my new favorite term for fighting
I mean Smallville was on it's second season when it aired, and I wisely chose that, also, I freakin LOVE My Hero, I watched it every Saturday afternoon in the mid 2000's on PBS.
(The worst CG cityscape transitions still goes to Catwoman.)
Dina Meyer who played Oracle on the show also came back for Crisis on Infinite Earths and the earth the show is set on (Earth-203) is a reference to when the show was cancelled, I was surprised Rachel Skarsten didn’t return as Black Canary during Crisis despite the fact she’s on Batwoman
Harley Quinn WAS a psychologist. Emphasis on *was*.
"Birds Of Prey 2019"
Damn, I thought it was already 2020.
The entire series consists to a single DVD case
5:39 that bit with greedo really got me :P
Great video. It was a fun idea going back and visit the old birds of prey tv show.
The cgi city reminds me of those legendary poorly looking games we used to play in the arcades. You know the really plastic looking graphics of the 2000/
There’s apparently a new Fantasy Island movie coming out for some reason. How about taking a look at the crappy 90s reboot TV series with Malcolm McDowell?
Seconded
Was it crappy? Did anyone actually watch it?
Love it guys, keep it up! Also take a Look at Buckaroo Banzai Adventures Across the 8th Dimension! Jeff Goldblum, Christopher Lloyed and a bunch of others. Solid gold.
Glad I stumbled across this video! I remember seeing that baby episode as a child, but I never remembered what show it was from, and it bothered me for so long.
It's 2020.
The future is now, old man.
Now that you planted that seed I demand Lizzie Maguire related content. Easter egg video for the movie, playthough of the game, etc.
It makes me wonder if James watches these after Ben edits them.... I hope not
I love that you did the what we forgot segment. And you mentioned Crisis and still forgot Oracle was also in it.
The shot of Greedo when Maso says clunky, is chef's kiss.

Hey, big fan from Montreal! can you do heroes season 1?
I genuinely appreciate you reminding me to like the video because I’m REALLY stupid and often forget.
I lol'd hard when those 2002 posters popped up along the bottom, great work Ben 14:19
Tyler Hoechlin(?) was in Teen Wolf the MTV show
Would there be a licensing expense problem for using Batman is these shows though? Considering Warner Bros. owns DC comics?
Yeah, and they did actually show Batman at the start of the series!
But the show was through the network. It has to go through parent companies.
Think of it like a comic shop selling comics. The comic shop pays DC to be able to distribute it, instead of it being supplied directly from DC.
That’s what I never understood. It’s all WB/DC
They had some lame excuse about not wanting to confuse the viewers...
That's why they took Deathstroke and the Suicide Squad out of Arrow, removed Harley Quinn (she was in Argus penitentiary).
They don't want to water down Batman, admittedly he is a bit over exposed at the moment, but it's not like the movie versions are doing him justice.
The last good Batman we had was in the animated series and Justice League, tho the new animated Batman isn't bad. The movie versions have never shown him to be the smartest guy in the room, he's just gadget man with a chip on his shoulder. Affleck was the smartest so far but he's still gadget man and went gun crazy, something Batman would never do.
Bale wasn't bad but the only thing he did to show he was the smartest around was at the end of Dark Knight Rises where he outsmarted Bane.
Batman's tv rigths where partially owned by Fox
Thats why the CW never used him for more than a few cameos
8:10 is the funniest moment! Great clip editing!!
What is that footage from?
Side note killed me. Love the editing
If you havent, you should do the show Dark Angel with Jessica Alba.
I remember liking it for the most part...
In all honestly "The Pretender" is one of my favorite shows ever 😂
"Are you a doctor?"
"I am today."
Started rewatching this show recently. The soundtrack is packed with early 2000s edgy metal pop - they even had Evanescence's Bring Me Back to Life. But what surprised me was that during one of the fight scenes, they play Porcupine Tree's Wedding Nails! Wasn't expecting instrumental progressive metal in there.
IM SO EXCITED FOR NEXT WEEK
I just want to say I thought the thumbnail for this was especially good.
I like how they never learned making a character the character you know's kid to avoid fan backlash doesn't work.
Yeah, but fans that create "backlash" are always entitled little assholes that will always whine about something because their lack of social life leaves them nothing better to do.
5:40 I knew that was gonna come back. It was only a matter of time. 🤣🤣
"Bruce Willis in the Bruce Willis trilogy" Couldn't put it that better.
Also, why is it whenever villains come up with a way to create humans artificially, they always go "right, well this is going to be an assassin" or some variant of an illegal occupation. Surely one guy on R&D would be like me and just add in "Hey, just gonna toss this out there. If this doesn't work out cause Batman usually ruins everything, maybe we can just grow human organs and sell them. That's quite a lucrative market. We might not get the same margins as our assassin business but we also wouldn't be dealing with batman beating our asses every week. Just a suggestion."
Batman doesn't fight black market organ traders?
John L just do it legally
Look at smallville
My only problem is that there isn't more Caravan of Garbage to binge.
0:17 how dare you lump dark angel in with this mess (yes i'm aware that ashley scott was in dark angel)
Once you ignore all the PS2 graphics I can like Birds of Prey. Best Batgirl ever!
I would love the Caravan for My Hero though!
Smallville was in 2000 so does that count because it's way better than Birds of Prey
I LOST it when Ben edited in Greedo saying Macklunkey when Maso said clunky.
"There is some Kung Fu-ing about" is my new favorite phrase.
It’s me. They don’t love me.
you know what you did
I feel like it just needs to be said that Catwoman in this series is played by Billie Ellish's mom
Wait what?
Really?!!!
whaaaaaa?
Not so 'out of nowhere' after all. Almost like she was trained from early on. What's she up to now? Lol
I mean Smallville was 2001-2011
My brother and I watched Birds of Prey. We liked it, even though we knew it was terrible. Another show we liked around that time was John Doe, which wasn't a superhero show per se. There weren't a lot of options for superhero shows at that time: Smallville and ???
"The pretender? The pretender!?" Haha, i forgot about that show. I just remember seeing commercials for that show everytime you would watch anything on nbc.
I loved it, but nobody ever references it, I'm glad they did!
That show has one of my favorite character introductions. Miss Parker getting off the Helicopter onto a oil tanker smoking a cigarette, that's everything you need to know about her.
At least this was actually trying to be Birds of Prey. The movie is not. It's a Harley Quinn movie. In this CW BoP Universe Catwoman was a metahuman like Batman Returns, so that is the metahuman . It did have a little bit of a fan base, which is likely why it got a bit of closure with those last episodes.
They keep saying that there was nothing else like this during 2002 when the best DC Superhero show was in it's second season
I’m just here to tell you that in your review of Bumblebee you said the main antagonist transformer was Starscream...... and you are 100% correct. I think it might have even been Reg-scream (mason convincing james’ son that all the transformers are all actually named Reg).
They should do caravan of garbage on alien nation is was a show on fox where aliens drank rotten milk.. and there was a show I think it was called mantis and it was about a crippled black super hero...
Ian Abercrombie was in Army of Darkness!
I love Ben's editing snark
I deeply appreciate the cut to Greedo when you say "clunkey" in the beginning
This show is the best representation of 2000s superhero stuff. and I love it for that.
It's ironic love, but it's love.
A good superhero show in 2002? Smallville. You guys should've covered that a long time ago...
Great video. A show you guys should check out is the Russell Wong martial arts TV show that wasn’t Vanishing Son. It came out around 2003 called “The Red Sash”. It has super hero elements, but also has the CW teen show vibe of its time. I would like to know what you think. Peace
I remeber the series finale final fight was played to the tune of the F'n TaTu song that was popular in a lot of the Media back in the day. "All the things you said running through my head"
