Ben Johnson saw the writing on the wall after his initial interview with us. He was not prepared for the depth of questioning and expectations we had that went beyond mere offense and play calling.
Dan Quinn came into the interview with this well thought out, talking about the identity he wants to build here, the coordinators and asst coaches he would bring in, the type of players he wants, the manner in which he'll bring the coaches and players along and how to handle player dynamics.
In the end Ben Johnson, you have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting.
I am glad we got DQ. We got Dallas main coach, and now he will help turn this team around. We NEEDED a coach with vision and wanted the job bad. A coach with experience but can relate to the players and changes with time and DQ is that. DQ is the player's coach. Players that wanted to leave are now wanting to stay and play. Coaches and players following DQ. Ben Johnson would of been the wrong hire. Great job by AP to go through the complete process and make decision with informed information as opposed to drinking and gulf buddies.

He’s a guy that likes his job and gets paid very well. Doesn’t want to uproot his family and he wants to finish what they started in Detroit before he moves on. There’s no slight involved

HTTC, I felt the same way about DQ at first, I was on the fence, but after I watched the staff he assembled, I was on the bus, fully convinced, Ken Norton Jr. locked it up, DQ made me realize that these "hot commodity" coaches may be so great you need some history of leadership and rapport, DQ is my guy!
I watched Trap or Dive podcast and a former player the Lions said “You want your head coach to be a leader of men and not just a play caller”. He wasn’t sure if Ben Johnson was a leader of men. Like you said, we have the right the right guy! DQ is a leader of men and you can tell by the players and coaches that he’s brought in.

This whole Ben Johnson thing reminds me of Dan Snyder. Everyone can agree that Dan Snyder was a horrible owner. However, every move Dan Snyder made…fans were initially excited for. The only move he made that fans didn’t like was the name change and he was basically forced into that. I say all of that because I didn’t want another owner doing what he felt the fans wanted rather than doing what was best, even if it was unpopular. The whole city wanted Ben Johnson and it seems he wasn’t one of their top candidates when they interviewed him. If this was a Dan Snyder team, he would have told them to hire him anyway and to give him whatever he wanted.

I don’t think it was so much about Washington, it was all about what Ben wanted. And he wants to stay in Detroit. For me, he didn’t have to say why at the time, it didn’t hurt my feelings. He’s a grown man. HTTR ALL THE WAY

What we need to know was demonstrated by texting while we were in flight to go interview him.
It all boils down to these points:
Ben Johnson’s Point of View-I finally helped Detroit(perennial losers) of all teams, make the Playoffs & almost made the SB! The team is finally ready to start winning consistently & I won’t hand that to someone else who didn’t start the journey with us. I need more time. There’s nothing out there that is worth starting from the bottom again. I have the right to wait & check later. The landscape always changes. Winning in Detroit will keep me on the Wanted List. 99.9% of every OC would look at the Pros/Cons of Staying and Leaving. Example: Do I sell my house, move my family(making them start over with their lives such as job,school,friends,etc.), and affect their personal lives as well as my own?
Commanders Fans Point of View:
We wanted you(Ben Johnson)as our Top Head Coach choice the whole Search. We talked about Ben Johnson everyday and waiting for the Announcement. We did not want anyone else(check out every podcast & youtuber’s video for overwhelming evidence) for the Search. We especially didn’t want Dan Quinn as even a choice and bargained with ourselves by picking any other remaining Coach. In the end, the fans felt betrayed and feelings were hurt. So, insults will be made up and thrown at BJ even when he doesn’t mention the team. We’ll look for any sentence or paragraph in an interview and claim it is the Commanders being mentioned.
Right now, most fans are in wait and see mode for Dan Quinn. Actions during the Regular Season matter, not the practices in the months leading up to the Reg. Season. Everyone will see how the Coaching is done in each game. Right now, other teams admit they would be more aware of the Commanders with Ben Johnson leading the team. It’s just how it is. The Fans will let everyone know how they truly feel during the Regular Season both on CZcams and in the Stadium Seats. All the praise given right now is because of the “Shiny New Toy” effect. It happens each year all around the NFL. Everything will have to wait till months later. That’s what makes the Regular Season exciting & nerve wrecking at the same time.

I didn't say this at the time. But i thought it. I felt like Dan got so much blame for the playoff loss. If you had asked most people before the playoffs, who was the number 1 coach candidate, it might have been Dan. Then the playoff loss came, and everyone talked like he was the worst coach out there. I still liked him a lot. One loss doesn't make you a bad coach.
