  • How To Answer The "Why Real Estate" Interview Question // When you’re interviewing for commercial real estate jobs, most companies are going to want to know WHY you’re there in the first place, especially if this would be your first role in the industry.
The “why commercial real estate” question is one of the most common interview questions asked of analyst candidates at real estate firms, and believe it or not, the way you answer this can actually have a pretty big impact on how you stack up against others in the running for the job.
And while the textbook “real estate is tangible” answer is definitely the most common response here, at best, this answer will just make you blend in with the rest of the candidate pool, and at worst, this could raise concerns that you might not be committed to the industry.
So to help you answer this question in a way that helps you stand out, in this video, let’s walk through three of the best answers that you can give to the “why commercial real estate” question, and how you can tailor each of these answers, to your own unique situation.

Hi Justin, thanks for the great videos. I really enjoy and learn from your channel.
I have a question, what type of commission splits could I expect either as a tenat rep, third party and/or landlord leasing agent for a CRE company/shopping center owner in FL? This is assuming no base salary, and the size of the firm is 10-50 shopping centers owned. Thanks again!

Thanks for the videos/course. I just landed a FT offer with a large RE investment firm and will start in the summer. Are there any networking organizations you would recommend joining as a new analyst? ULI, CCIM etc...

Hey Justin, in interviews I often trip up on mental math questions that include quick tricks to calculate IRRs on simple case studies mentally. E.g. You buy an asset for 100, it makes 5 a year in CFs for 5 years, after which you sell for 120, what is the IRR? Do you think you could make a video on how to solve these?

Great question - this video goes over many of the most common mental math questions, including IRR-based questions in point #1: czcams.com/video/lroH7UxfhAo/video.html
Great feedback - definitely a topic to go in more depth on in future videos!
