    If you use any paid cloud drives that map as a drive letter (e.g. pCloud), be sure to disable flash drive scanning in this new BitDefender Free version. Otherwise it may choke the Internet connection scanning everything on the Cloud drive after every Windows start-up, particularly if there's several hundred GB of files on the cloud drive. This caught me be by surprise as I'm on a rural LTE based Internet connection.

      @@corens1033 I don't recall having this issue with Kaspersky or ESET. For BitDefender, this setting is in Protection (left menu) -> Antivirus (Open) -> Settings tab. Set "Scan flash drives" to Disabled. I no longer have Kaspersky on any PC, so don't recall its settings.
      I switched from Kaspersky as it slowed down my network performance. Even a simple iPerf network speed test between two PCs dropped from about 940Mbps to 600Mbps with Kaspersky installed.

      @An orange ...strange, maybe explorer was injected by malware, or replaced by malware... First, you need to find WHY explorer was blocked, not just uninstall the antivirus. That can be bad idea. Always there is an option to add to whitelist some applications which you want, on every antivirus program, but there is HUGE risk if the application added to whitelist actually is malware, or contain one, or even can trigger an malware from different places or web.
      Sometimes, peoples say "disable antivirus and install the crack" but the crack may contain malware, and when antivirus is disabled, then the malware freely can destroy your os or personal documents. That is the easiest way how hackers manipulate victims.
      There are a lot antivirus companys which share data with governments, but better (on my opinion) my data to be shared with "peaceful' government, than to be shared with RU gov.
      Some times peoples have sensitive documents in pc, but such peoples know for sure what they are doing. They know how to hide ownself. For sure, every government know for own peoples which website you visit, where you are located, what you like or dislike... But what they are doing with such information?! Preventing crime.
      Criminals for sure does not use windows OS, or antivirus, or android OS.
      If someone does not have what to hide then...relax. For ordinary peoples, windows defender is enough. There is another way to harden windows defender together with other windows apps build in OS, even on that degree that no antivirus can be compared with windows security.
      On the past i have used Comodo with windows 7 just because of virtualization of apps, then i switched to Kaspersky Total with windows 10, but last time i think to switch to another one ( i don't recommend anything to you because im not expert on IT security) but i think Bitdefender is good enough (for me).
      Someone can say that Kaspersky last time relocated to Switzerland, but that does not mean that data collected from my pc are not shared with ru gov through Kaspersky.
      Some companys may say that "we collect only anonymous data" but that is not true while they ask for login, or the bank card name holder to buy the product, with which you buy the app or services. When they have our name, our bank number then is easy to combine bank data with collected personal data, they they know everything what we do.
      Eugen Kaspersky said "come, we will show you the code of our programs". But again, Germany warned not to use Kaspersky anymore. Germany already has not seen the code of Kaspersky but used to warn us without any fact, just like that??? Sure they know something. Then what we are waiting for?! Or we are waiting another order by RU gov to give to Kaspersky and destroy every document in peoples PC?! Just how they said "we will not invade Ukraine" but they done that. Who will believe RU gov anymore or companys connected to RU gov?!
      Even if Kaspersky say that data are not shared, but you can read Terms and Conditions of Kaspersky and you can see that Kaspersky do share data with others. Who can trust RU gov anymore, or RU security company like Kaspersky on this case?! NO. Kick off.

      @@thepreserver83 It's very interesting that you are ok with an AV sharing your private data with ANY government and the fact that you consider the country that started 2 World wars "peaceful"... Both US and Germany don't want us to use Kaspersky because they don't have control over it.
      I just want what is best for my system and that is Kaspersky, hands down!! Everything else is politics and power plays that I don't have any interest in.
      When there will be a better AV for my PC I'll consider switching to it and not over some not proven allegations that it's sharing information with FSB

    Unfortunately old methods like virus detecting by signatures and looking for malicious files not effective anymore and my computer easily hacked by softwares and other online methods that was undetectable by any kind of antivirus. Extremely hard to detect and determine this kind of attacks. Apps in Google play by some companies and countries are not safe to use and some softwares for any operating system.

    Ok so I actually also have problelms with this. It is overblocking things like for example I get kicked from servers in some games or updates for them fail to install because they are beeing blocked. It doesn't work to whitelist them either or even to turn off ALL the defending features in Bit Defender. Only deinstalling works.

  • @WhileTrueDoEnd1
    @WhileTrueDoEnd1 Před 2 lety +2

    I would use this product if bitdefender would respect exclusions and not be a headache. When i whitelist a whole folder i dont want anything detected by any module of the av. And yet Bitdefender ATD seems to ignore exclusions.

    • @thepreserver83
      @thepreserver83 Před 2 lety +3

      ...some times, in exclusion folder there are "bad files" and when you launch the "bad file" then it will try to make changes on OS, that is why antivirus is blocking the app.
      Solution? Dont use cracks or infected apps. If the app which you use is paid, and you can not afford buying it, then try to find an open source FREE alternative. But using cracks and infected apps is not an solution, for sure.

      Again: Dont use cracks or infected apps but TRY to find foss. IF you can not find one, then Dont use cracks or infected apps.
      Solution: pay for what you use.
      Its your choice: Infect your pc and expose yourself to bad buys, or pay for the software which you use, and have peace of mind.
      After all, someone developed it, so if they sell it, then you need to pay for what you use. Its human way of living. You need to respect it. Also you are part of this world.
      Piracy have own price. On one way or another one, you will pay for what you use, even if you dont want. Maybe one day you will pay with your freedom, in jail.

    I've used Kaspersky for a few years now and it's by far the best consumer AV in terms of detection rates imo. However, recently upgraded to a new PC and Kaspersky has been causing me all sorts of problems from false positives, to even causing my NVMe to disconnect and become uninitialised within Windows when installing applications. It's been a nightmare and has been giving me way too many headaches. Not sure what's happened recently, but this video and your others are making me want to switch to Bitdefender.

      after installation, you need to restart the pc before updating the app.
      when an antivirus is installed, one can not put own roots deep into system, for that is needed to restart the pc to make changes.

    Does the installation require an uninstall previous to attempting the new install or does BD do the uninstall of the previous free version prior to making the new install? TIA
    BTW -- Here is a result of the Q/A which really does not provide the answer to the question asked which is why I chose to ask.
    "How do I switch from the previous free product to the new Bitdefender Antivirus Free for Windows?
    Can't copy the answer so will type it -- basically saying Download>Install. Don't worry "we will guide you".
    With guidance like that I am glad I have followed Leo for many many years.
    I could do a two step process but prefer to know what is best and wish that BD had actually provided an answer to the question.

    • @englandcalling9721
      @englandcalling9721 Před 2 lety

      No, it will uninstall the older Bitdefender and install this version. If you're using the old version, I'd probably wait awhile, you've got until the end of June. I found system scans were slower than with the older version. Also, unless you disable scanning of flash drives it rescans them after every reboot, even if it had scanned the same flash drive and contents before.

    • @phlotographer
      @phlotographer Před 2 lety

      @@englandcalling9721 Thanks very much. I did not remember when the old one expired and as you say -- waiting is good and maybe Leo will do another test before then. Good that they do the uninstall as then either it is total clean (I use Geek Uninstaller) hopefully or uses some components as needed if they can or wish to do so. I might run a scan with both BD and MBAM before making the change to check that all is clean and then re-run after install just to see if anything is picked up at that point and see how MBAM deals with the new install. Should not be any issues but no harm. Might also run C Cleaner before and after and do one or more reboots. Just like to be sure things are in good shape as in 25 years never a BSOD nor any virus/malware issues and want to keep it that way. Thanks again for your info.

    • @englandcalling9721
      @englandcalling9721 Před 2 lety

      @@phlotographer I'd agree using an uninstaller (I use Wise) then installing afterwards. Unless you need to keep them, it's worth deleting all System Restore points after installing Bitdefender. Bitdefender never works if you try to reinstall it via system restore, so better just to clear them out and start afresh.

    • @phlotographer
      @phlotographer Před 2 lety

      @@englandcalling9721 Between the two of our conversations, I am thinking the procedure to follow is 1. Run C Cleaner 2. Use Geek to uninstall the current BD in late June 2. 3. Install the new BD 4.Reboot the system 5. Run C cleaner once more 6. Create a new restore point and I can name it Post install of BD and its file name
      7. Reboot once more 8. Run Scans with both BD and MBAM 9. Be Happy! Then keep an eye out for concerns related to W11 and hopefully wait till 2023 when product will become more available and prices move back to normal and get a totally new system built that if I do it right likely could be my last in my expected lifetime but one never knows for sure. Thanks for the info.
