A quick and simple Biryani rice dish, cooked in the Trangia mess tin on a little solid fuel stove. #bushcraft #wildcooking #outdoorcooking #camping #biryani #vegan
Wow! While I love eating it, I’d no idea how to cook it. I’m going to take the recipe and change it a bit, as I’d like to add some shredded chicken to it, and a few raisins as the heat and spice really benefits from the odd sweet bit. I have most of the spice you used, but had to put a couple on my shopping list. Lol. Fantastic camping food that I’d never have considered. Thanks for sharing. P.S. I’d add a wee review section where you discuss what went right and what you would change for the future. Clean up tips? Prep for a hike or a camping trip?
I’ll give it a go one day, I think with the one I have it works work, but there isn’t much room for twigs, so don’t think it would get hot and would probably need constant care. I just did an ikea hobo stove video, that worked well and got really hot.
I've tried using twigs in a esbit stove and I couldn't get water to boil. The problem was that you can't get enough wood in the thing to get decent blaze on the go. I had the same issue with wood burning stoves of similar size.
Great video and a neat recipe. Personally I would require the addition of some protein, have you tried this type of recipe with soya, Quorn or the like? Regards Broadlander
You should! It worked really well here. Another time I used them though and they kind of melted and dropped through the stove and made a mess…but they’re a good option for a secondary flame alongside a Trangia, and a great emergency backup.
I hate thses video because every time I see someone using one of these type of mess tins I have to go out and look at them. have done this for over 15 years, LOL
nice 1 to try thank you nice video
Thanks and welcome
Esbit tabs are easier to light if you place the match under the stove. Thats why the stove had such large holes or so im told.
Got to try this.
Ah that makes sense!

You won't believe how long it took me to figure that one out and only when someone told me
Great video but no stirring?
No need, it was perfect just to leave it be! Am going to try a more adventurous rice dish soon..
Problem with hexane stove is you can’t regulate the heat . So good for emergency situations but would not choose to regularly on one .
Yeah, easy to transport too, but not ideal for cooking

Glad you enjoyed! And agree about making it a little more exciting! Will take on board your suggestions too!
I don't own one, but I've often wondered how well the nesbit stove would handle using twigs or other natural fuel instead of the tabs. Any thoughts?
