  • Hello, welcome to The Common Corner.
Today I am expanding on the developments within the two new books I introduced a few weeks ago ("Setting up a new commonplace book"), and my thoughts on how this system will work for me~ CommonPlace × Hobonichi Cousin Avec × Diary (extension to the Avec).
back to regular posting schedule soon hopefully, but it was fun to film this spontaneously and have a break from my medical studies in the middle of the week.

I know that that is what journals are for but I truly like how your journals are a reflection and an extension of your life. And the manner with which you execute this seems so fun and easy. I love the conversational tone of your videos. It's soothing and encouraging.

Hi again~ 🥹 You never fail to make my day better with your kind words, it feels like a dream come true to have my journals perceived in this way! Working in my books IS fun and easy, I think sharing it may help lower the pressure that I too sometimes feel to fill these pages, and truly enjoy it. ❤️‍🩹
Also, starting to see familiar "faces" in my comments, makes me feel like I know who I am talking to~ hence in my mind I really am having a conversation with you. 😄🌸

Love your video. I enjoyed the idea of flipping the book over for a different topic. Very clever. Also, enjoy your topic dots. Liked your coffee pages. I may add something similar in mine. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much! 🥹💌 I really appreciate how you enjoy these little details in my books! Please take as much inspiration as you'd like~ especially the coffee pages, they are very useful to look at when thinking of which cafe's mood I'd like to surround myself in! :)

I love this soooooo much! I've used my journals more-so for creative/decorative journaling, but I've been wanting to get back into just writing. I have so many covers and notebooks, and it's hard for me to keep everything in one place. But as someone who's interested in minimalism and wants to be one, this is very interesting. I'm not sure if I understand commonplace journaling 100%, but I will be watching more of your videos!

Hi there! 💌 Your kind words warmed my heart so much, I am overjoyed to rewad your words and to see how much you've enjoyed this video! I am also someone who loves the concept of minimalism although I don't always follow this lifestyle, but I try and integrate it into my life as much as I can. I used to also own a lot of notebooks but couldn't really stick with one because there was never one I truly loved until I found Hobonichi, and now it feels easier to keep everything in one place that I enjoy!🌾
I hope that you enjoy the journey of finding out more about different styles of journaling and commonplacing~! For me, anything can go in the commonplace book~ you make the rules! :) Thank you for tuning in here❤️

I love all your notebooks. What is coffee culture like in Finland?

    • @TheCommonCorner

Firstly, thank you so much! 💌☕️ Secondly...ah there is a lot to say! Filter coffee in big jugs in every household~ the by the end of the day, everyone's had at least 3 cups (well, not everyone, but definitely your average Finnish person). We also prefer having a cup of coffee at a friend's place, rather than tea. And it does not matter what time you go and visit your friend~ 3pm? Filter coffee. 10pm? Filter coffee.
And the cafe culture is not as strong as in London~ by this I mean that people prefer drinking coffee at home rather than at a cafe. But in London, there is a cafe behind every corner, and many types of cafes!
Pros and cons... ~ I love that in Finland, it is acceptable to have a nice cup of coffee at 10pm, but I have fallen even deeper in love with the variety of cafes (and thus coffee) in London.
I enjoyed reminiscing of the home country for a bit! Thank you for your question.☕️

I love to the updated system! With the addition of the work diary, where do you keep your to-do lists? And as busy as you are, do you prefer planning and journaling in one book (your cousin) or do you plan some place else? Thanks!

    • @TheCommonCorner
      @TheCommonCorner  Před 2 měsíci

Hi~ thank you so much!💌 To answer your first question: I keep my daily to-do lists in my Hobonichi Cousin (Avec) daily pages. On most of these pages you can see crossed out lists at the top-right corner (including miscellaneous admin things, as well as small tasks from bigger projects, which I outline in the work diary) 😇 ~ sometimes there is no to-do list, usually on weekends.
Secondly: I enjoy keeping physical plans (calendar+ weekly timetable) in one book~ in my Avec, to make sure that all deadlines and events are in one place (as I am busy, I need to know that I can easily see everything that is happening in one spread~ the weekly views in the avec are amazing for this! You can see a prime example in my second ever vide~ a week in my Hobonichi).
But there is not enough space for me to keep the details of work and academic project plans in there as well, hence my work diary steps in and provides the space! However, these "plans" are more like brainstorming what needs to be done, after which I allocate the tasks into the actual calendar itself. ☀️😌
I hope this made some sense~!
