Melo took higher quality shots, played defense & was a willing passer. Can’t ask for much more out of a 16 year old in 5 minutes of action. People really had unrealistic expectations in his PROFESSIONAL debut. There's more to basketball than scoring, guys.
It looks like he can definitely hang out there. With time, his points will come. It was a short clip, but he looked productive.

This is actually great for them, because it makes them have to work extra hard and do the right things to prepare them for actually being pros.
You can tell Melo's put in work on the defensive end. Dude never used to do anything but he looked good from that perspective in this game, stayed active, kept his hands up and got a few steals from it. Shots obviously weren't really dropping for either of them but it'll come. I think Gelo needs to embrace playing in the post a little more, he's got a big frame up top and he's able to use his shoulders well to protect the ball and his shot motion from defenders. I think he'd be a lot more effective using more of a mix of playing in the post and as a spot up shooter because he's not great at creating his own shot off the dribble.

Melo didn't even play that bad from these clips, seemed like his only mistake was not getting the shot to fall. Defense, passing, and his ability to keep up with the pace and bigger opponents looked pretty good.

For a 16 year old i love his confidence. He needs to learn how to make better decisions and he'll be fine. They should get more time as the season goes on as well. I'm lithuanian and the people here seem to like them.

His foot was going in when he received the ball. It's a pretty difficult rule to explain: if you are out of bounds, when you are jumping and in your team mate passes you the ball, and you receive it without both your feet on the court it's out of bounds

Euroleague is the best thing to ever happen to lamelo. Lets be real lamelo has everything. Handles shooting and finish around the rim. Heck i saw him doing floaters with his left hand on aau. Whats his weaknesses? He plays like hes on the park or something. Bad shooting selection, disorganized defense and offense. With euroleague the coaches will tell him how to play pro basketball. The details. The pick and roll, the spacing ,etc. Once he understands that, its ankle bully time in nba
They're not playing in Euroleague which is the top 16 club teams in Europe. Lithuanian league is like 8th to 10th best national league in Europe after Spain, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Greece, France, Germany and also Adriatic league made of the former yugoslavian countries best clubs.
Maybe they will use this year to find a better league, even business wise like German or French league, but Lavar needs to understand that in better leagues, teams will probably take a gamble on Lamelo, who is a real NBA prospect, but not on Gelo who is limited and unidimensional.

I just wanted to see LaMelo receive more minutes , I loved watching his passing and getting to the basket in his 1st game and I've also seen a midrange jumper in his game before in his game he could use in this league. Maybe the coach is worried about LaMelo getting hurt or something because he is 16 years old the youngest player in the league playing against adults. They should increase his minutes to about 10 minute the next game that counts in the standings to see how his body holds up

From what I saw here LaMelo looks really good actually. You can see how mad his teammates were when he just let the guy go by him at the end of quarter, stuff he could get away with in high school. It's good though, he'll learn how to really play.
