One of the best ABC television series ever put together, don't make them like this anymore.😁🥳
True. But time's have changed that quickly. Things like this don't sell to the younger generation. in general. All the best 👍
Oh don't know there is Ray Mears, Les Stroud, Bear Grylls and many more.
Also check out Matthew Posa on CZcams.
I agree but Countdown was also good. The ABC back decades ago was the best TV station. As Emaily says up or below, I agree.
absolute must view when i was a kid, when we only had 2 channels in the country.
Bout time, Les is a bloody legend, Australia needs more men like him.
The world🙈
What do you mean? This was done in the 80s, and there were people that uploaded before this was.
this series means so much to us old bed ridden folk in the UK, images of freedom adventure, and beautiful places and people that we'll not get the chance to see, but many thanks from London
I don't think anyone has done a better job , 'explaining' remote northern Australia as Les did in this series. His respect and love for the indigenous Australians of Arnhem Land shines through, and is so obvious yet so understated...at that time, I felt that Les Hiddens did much to increase the understanding of city folk like me for Aboriginal people and their land. I get the same feeling watching this series now as I did over 30 years ago.
Malcolm Douglas. Harry butler. Leyland bros. Jack absolum. And some other great ones to. But les is definitely great and a awesome in person to.
🇬🇧👍🇦🇺
Iconic!
@@emailyclake1706 alby mangles?
@@emailyclake1706 Malcolm Douglas even made it to fame in Europe early to mid 80s.
I met Major Hidden many years 1986 on a course in WA in the Army. It wasn't a conventional Army course. Yes, Les wore his slouch hat just like that and maybe that was his hat from that time. His knowledge is unbelievable and he is an absolute gentleman. Thank you Les
I grew up as a young boy watching bush tucker man. Now introducing my 5yr old to the great man les. Keep em coming
Happy to hear this series has you reminiscing, I hope your son enjoys them as much as you do. Feel free to subscribe so you don't miss anything.
Les Hiddins is awesome. Since the mid 90s have been a fan from Manchester UK.
UM! One of the first Grey scout's!!?!.. O.M.G!!?!..
I watched this all the time in the 90's in Canada, Mr Busk Tucker man was a great Australian ambassador.
Watching Bush tucker man was like watching someone on the moon whilst I was a teenager in ireland. I loved the show
I bought this box set of DVD,s,, from the ABC shop,, back when they existed, before they closed down.
Our high school teacher would put this on a tv to entertain us while he disappeared to get up to no good. Great show.
The ducks nuts of Australian television. Me and my mates grew up wanting and trying to be Les Hiddens or Malcolm Douglas. That was when we weren’t trying to be Alan Border or David Boon. If you weren’t into it then you weren’t living. It helped living in the North West of Australia because we could test our new learnt skills for real. Such a great show and I later found out that both Les and Malcolm were very popular in Germany. Who would of thought. 👍🇦🇺💪
This, Landline, and "A River Somewhere", would have to be ABC's best shows ever produced.
backroads also, aint to bad
All fine shows but Beatbox will always be the best.
But then, there's always a river...
...somewhere.
These Documentaries are at least 11 out of 5 stars.
Great that you are making this available on CZcams - means more people can have the pleasure of watching Les nom his way through some tasty and some not so tasty bushtucker.
Glad you have enjoyed the series. You may want to subscribe to make sure you don't miss any future episodes.
@@abcaustralia Just subscribed! I loved this series way back when...as did my children. In fact it was one of my, now grown up, children who told me Bush Tucker Man is now available on youTube. Thanks ABC :-)
@@abcaustralia P.S. I still have all the VHS tapes of the Bush Tucker Man stored in my shed...but no longer have a machine to play them on! So wonderful to be able to view them via CZcams.
Les Hiddins is a legend. I watched his shows on repeat so many times in the 90's as a kid it's a wonder the VHS tapes didn't wear out. For me at least, it's the most iconic Australian educational series ever made. Can't get more Australian than a bloke in an Akubra poking around the bush!
I met Les in Townsville around the time he was filming The Bush Tucker man. He impressed me with clearly being the same person you saw on the show. Looking forward to revisiting this series!
I watch this series up here in England, and I never missed one program, he's brilliant, and I'll be doing it all again, thank you ABC for this
Same. We used to do jokey impressions but respected him. 🇬🇧👍🇦🇺
I haven't seen this series since it was on in the 80s. I'm sure I remember him pulling out a big fat white worm from a tree. 😅
Watching Les wandering around the bush reminds me off when I was a kid. We lived in Nhulunbuy between 1975 and 1981 and when we went camping ...it was just like this. Am 48 now and this takes me back.
My god, I used to watch this as a teenager in the late 80s in the UK. I so longed back then to travel around Australia, but I'm 50 now and never ended up there. I wanted to see Crowded House in concert over there, too. Aww, the dreams we have as children.
No matter how many times the word Legend is used when you’re talking about Les Hiddins, it’s just not enough! Good on you Les and happy birthday for your 76th year, still going strong!
Loved this series. In the uk it was the best Australian series ever brought across.
I remember watching this series back in the day ( I think it was on Channel 4 here in the UK ). Even the theme tune brings back fond memories. I'm going to be watching it all over again. Great stuff.
It's an Australia that not many aussies ever experience, although I have been in some really rugged bush, this feels like another level. Thanks for making these available ABC..
This Was The Best the Best thing since sliced bread And ill always come back to watch The Bush Tucker Man
Loved thos show as kid. I joined the army, did it myself. Later worked as a fishing guide, and have lived in the top end 23 years now. Love it. Billy goat plums are delicious btw.
I’m almost lost for words. It’s so good seeing Les again. Still a brilliant show.
Ahh such memories. I backpacked to Australia in January 1990 and travelled around on a Greyhound that stopped off in the Northern Territory at Uluru (Ayres Rock). Bushtucker Man videos were playing on a loop in the visitor centre. I sat there and watched loads of them that day. A real nostalgia trip.
I just love this bloke we grew up on this show
He’s the man with the world’s most aerodynamic hat!
Used to love watching Les in the late 90’s. Him and Rex Hunt was my usual viewing on the telly, before working my late shift.👍🏾🇬🇧
Fantastic to see this series being repeated. One of the best things the ABC has ever done. What a shame there is little to compare with it these days.
I dont think the abc made it.
Me mate was infantry at Lavarack & used to tell me about this bloke who'd go bush & eat off the land.
He wrote survival manuals for the Army.. next thing, he's on the telly!!
Legend Les!
Edit: & his hat!
What style of hat is that? Do u know by any chance?
Slouch hat?
@@SuperRoo_22 he wears an Akubra Sombrero - he modifies the hat by pushing in the normal dome shape
Used to watch this after school on Discovery Channel here in the UK. Great show
They used to call this tree the nauclea orentalis but they thought it was to much of a mouthful so they changed the botanical name to sacafillus cordanatus, and that’s a Great Leap Forward that is
You cannot imagine in your worst nightmares how many times I have watched all of Bush Tucker Man's videos. He really did have the best job in his army. He and I are almost the same age and years ago I had enough points to emigrate but relatives and ............ I wish I had. Good on yer mate.
Keep an eye out for the next ep each Wednesday evening. Here's the playlist: czcams.com/play/PL7HSPnTFVAuFQkVzs3KzXjGXO78x-0HNE.html
My family did the "Gun Barrel" highway trip back in 1985, was the best trip ever.! WA to NT and I did climb the rock !
I remember watching this on live tv- still an amazing show. At that time I was in the Army reserve, using the same equipment as Les.
OH please bring him back ! I still put one of his DVD's on when i'm out in the shed playing around - i don't have to look at the screen to see what Les is talking about as he describes it so well i can see it in my minds eye ! I grew up watching the Leyland brothers , Malcom Douglas and Harry butler but then along came the Bush Tucker Man and it blew them all away ! There is a younger generation that have not seen the series so posting them on CZcams is fantastic and i do hope they find their way to these videos !
We had a three hour children’s programming on Sunday morning in the late eighties up into the early nineties here in the Netherlands just for children with all kind of series and programs and this one “Bush tucker man” was one of my favorites.
Best show the ABC has made.
Now this show would be pushing 35 years old, better entertainment than a modern qna episode! Fuel prices would be 50c a litre!
judging by the bowser scene at the start it calculates to about 67c a litre if you pause the video and check the cost against the litres pumped.
Great to revisit this epic series and see the legendary Bush Tucker Man again.
The Bush Tucker Man. I loved this as a kid. Thanks from the UK!
Major Les Hiddens, absolute legend!
I'm loving this! I'm a RAN up here and I love this Country, it makes my heart sing!
Tremendous, loved watching this when I was a kid.
Favourite show growing up what a true legend.thanks a lot for this , I remember when I was around six or seven asking my folks to call the abc and ask when the next season was being made. :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I absolutely adore this series and watch them all from start to finish every so often. The second series on the explorers was outstanding too. Long live Les Hiddins
Thank you for posting this series with Les... He is a true Australian treasure.....
Even today this is the best production ever made about bushcraft and survival. I'm Dutch so we don't have these animals, plants and fruits. But still it changed me from being just a survival instructor as in getting out of the bush to also a bushcraft teacher as in enjoying your time in the bush. Of course the Dutch and Australia have a history.
Thakn You for uploading this series in such superb quality. Youre awesome. I'm 40 and back in my childhood i used to watch this religiously. Those were times when Discovery Channel was releasing some high quality content.
This chap was just fabulous. Really enjoyed this series yrs ago .
This first episode was great, good camera work and information about les's background, australian geography, bush foods and australian scenery
Great work ABC for bringing this to CZcams. I am going to enjoy watching them all over again and let my friends know in the US to give Les a watch.
I remember watching these as a kid, loved them
Used to watch Bush Tucker man, way back . Always impressed with his knowledge and style.
Just amazing the basic gear he used. Not a hi-tech bit in sight. Just simple basic gear.
I first watched Les when I was 11 years old and Ive just introduced my 11 year old son to this wonderful show. Thank you!
Brilliant show , when the Goggle box was worth watching. Thanks for making this available, I remember watching this back in the 1990's. Much respect to Les.
Sometimes the CZcams algorithm gets it spot on.... Loved watching this.... Great camera work and images especially for a 30+yr old show 👍
As a young guy when i first saw this show it really captured my imagination. It took my camping here in Canada to that next level of self reliance.
Thankyou for uploading these to CZcams great blast from the past 😀 man I love our country !!
The Carl Sagan of Australia
What a great show this was.
Les the ledg
Beautiful and interesting. Congratulations. I love Australia.❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely brilliant. This marks a beautiful time in history. Definitely one for the archives.
And that tune at the end is food for my soul.
Thank you all involved ◼️💛🔴...🔰
Brilliant thanks for sharing great memories of this, I’m from Dublin Ireland myself and my dad rip would watch this after mass every Sunday when I was a kid one of the few times me and my pops bonded 😂
Great insights, what a land of surprises, beauty and treasures
Thank you for sharing these, this was my childhood I must have watched every VCR tape of the Bush Tucker man over 100 times and now I'm watching again 👍🏼
Outstanding, loved this series. Nice to see it in good quality again and Les still going strong doing his thing albeit retired.
Best Aussie docos ever. EVER!!
Great series. I've seen them all when they came out but always a treat.
Looking forward to this, I spent a lot of time there in the late 70's
This is one of the first VHS cassette tapes my dad bought when I was a kid! Awesome that you've got it up on CZcams
So good to see this show, the Bush tucker man was a favourite back in the day, can't wait for more episodes to be available
Just came across this series totally by accident. I'll be binge watching the entire series again. Watched the Bush Tucker Man as a youngster and absolutely loved it all. A true all rounder and outdoors man. Thanks for bringing back a lot of fond memories 👍
I loved this show so much. Thanks for putting it up here for fans of Les!
Woah I remember those days - the litres going up faster than the dollars!
Loved watching this as a kid with my dad. Nothing better than a man with local knowledge. He brought about the snack map. Amazing man. The one thing i learned is never take more than you need.
One of my childhood heroes , and i met him and his wife a few years ago, nice bloke 👍🏼
Finally!!! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Les is the best and my favourite! His series opened all eyes of the bush lovers on the beauty, history and culture of the wild nature and people in remote areas of Australia.
The Liechardt reference made my hairs stand up on end
This series was regularly shown on the "UK Gold" TV channel back in the day...Les Hiddins was the first "outdoor survival teacher" I ever watched. He is the daddy when it comes to genuine TV experts. He is well known and well regarded in the UK - Our own national survival/bushcraft expert Ray Mears was a huge fan of TBTM and eventually did a show with him.
Anyway, I absolutely love the guy, his knowledge, his respect and the things he did for his fellow veterans all speak to a good and decent man.
Thank you very much indeed ABC Australia and Major Les Hidden aka The Bush Tucker Man.
A legend for sure.
🇬🇧👍🇦🇺
Thank y'all for posting these episodes. I've got a friend from Australia and he introduced me to Bush Tucker Man. Now I'm hooked
Great to see les again ive followed him for many years
Anyone else calculate he paid 67 cents a litre for fuel?
I started driving in 1969 and fuel was 36 cents a gallon- that's around 4.5 ltrs. And that was for Super - high octane!
Yes, and probably paying double the city price..
I was mesmerised by this show! Came out when I was 11/12. Great memories!
Thankyou ABC for bringing this back.
Thanks! We're very happy it's finally available. 😊
Now this brings back childhood memories, such a good show.
Cheers for this mate. I used to look forward to this coming on the TV, even though I live in green and pleasant Yorkshire. And the harshest conditions I'm likely to face is waiting for the offy to open in the morning. I'm sure I could survive now though, if I woke up one day beside the River Don.
Watch Bush Tucker man back in the UK. Was one of the influences which brought us to emigrate to Australia many years later and explore the bush😀 Awesome show today as it was back then. Great to see it back. Thank you ABC!
I Love this show Les is a Legend I’d love to have a Beer with the guy and listen to his stories. Thanks for all the Bush Knowledge from a city slicker wanna be Bushman cheers Les 🤠👊😎👍. P.s what a cool Army truck got ya round the outback that’s for sure. You’ve given the modern day 4x4 show a run for its money to!!
spectacular, the original and best 4wd, camping n cooking show. He truly had the best of both worlds, how many years on and we still rely on imported foods
A good show and a lot of people will learn how to survive in the bush if you were in that predicament to survive. . Love and live in the bush its peaceful and one with nature.
Thank you so much for making this available.
Watched every series all those years ago. Couldn’t wait for Sundays here in the uk awesome. Long live keys hiddens
Ahh this takes me back, used to love watching bush tucker man. very insightful. Although I would be looking over my shoulder 24/7 in Australia.. EVERYTHING wants to eat you..
Thanks for releasing these!!
Pertama kali saya ini melihat bush tucker man di ABC Australia....👍👍👍👍👍
Looking young there. I had a 51 Series 1 LR back in the 90s.
It was he "Less Hiddens support vheical.
