Sea Monsters of the Abyss! (Blackwater Diving in Hawaii and Florida!)

- Cameraman Zach and Annalise head to Hawaii to try "Blackwater" diving while Jonathan and Zach-of-all-trades Peterson head to Florida for the same thing. Blackwater diving is a kind of diving that takes place in water that is extremely deep, in the middle of the night. Creatures of the deep come to the surface. It's spooky and it's fun, and we try not to think about what sea monster might come up!

People are to busy looking to the stars for new life forms when our oceans still have undiscovered amazing creatures to find
At least you'll actually *find* life in the ocean.
if they put that much effort into the ocean we would of descovered more then half already XD maby even more
So true Filip! Some of the most beautiful creatures live in our ocean.
They aint even looking in the stars.. they just making animated films lol. underwater is the real 'space'.. u float, cant breathe and its blue in yhe day and black at night
We should continue to do both
Night diving must be awesome! Looks so exciting. 'The wetter the better' What a name for a boat. Thanks Blue World.
You sound happy lol :D

One of the coolest episodes ever! Blackwater diving looks so cool! That oceanic whitetip sighting is awesome
This is definitely one of my favourite episodes yet! From cool finds like the larvacean & siphonophores, to rare finds like the pelagic seahorse & ribbonfish, it seems like there is no shortage of strange yet wonderful encounters while blackwater diving. Also love the dually featured dive locations!
Considering that we each only did ONE dive, the amount of stuff we saw was amazing!
@@BlueWorldTV I’m sure, how awesome
Wow, oceanic whitetips are critically endangered now from finning and over fishing. Extremely lucky
Yes, becoming a very rare shark.
@@BlueWorldTV are they going to protect it ? Like which places are they protected ?
Yeah, Japan needs to quit brutally killing animals. It's one thing to eat the whole shark. Just finning it and tossing it back is cruel.
@@BlueWorldTV oh, hi!
The IUCN lists it as vulnerable but it does say the central Atlantic population is critically endangered. It’s sad to see their numbers drop day by day just for a tasteless fin soup 😔
This is awesome! As someone born and raised in Hawaii I had no idea some of these alien looking creatures live just offshore.
Found you guys off dive talk and oh. My. God. You can see the passion, energy and all the hard work you put into your videos. As someone who is intending on studying marine biology and getting certified for diving this truly sparks motivation in me to follow my passion. Seriously thank you mr. Bird
Thanks for watching!
Oh this is wonderful!! I love water column critters and they're so rarely showcased :D The split dive locations was really cool too! Annalise is a great narrator her voice is very relaxing.
I was expecting something a bit spooky to pop up maybe, but the scariest thing was definitely the sudden appearance of puppet Jon, lololol
Yeah that guy is so annoying! 🤣. But hey, we gotta get those subs man!
Hawaii, so so beautiful sir. That is a nice dive and awesome experience sir. A lot of interesting sea creatures, wow. My uncle was a marine biologist and love night dives because you see more marine life. Florida sir is super to. I live in Florida 😊😊😊😊🦈🦈🦈 But born and raised in Puerto Rico and I miss the diving down there. Have fun and keep up the good work!
So cool, Jonathan, thank you for the awesome footage. I did not experience black water diving yet, looking forward to doing it soon. Cheers
Didn't't know this kind of diving was a thing. Another dive to add to my bucket list! Looks super cool, like being deep in the depths, seeing things only seen on shows like Blue Planet.
This is just great. The quality is good, wait no, it's AMAZING! The encounter with that mature C.longimanus was just thrilling. It shocked me to see a critically endangered C.longimanus on this kind of dive. At the same time, noting that most creatures came from the deep, and the fact that C.longimanus can dive to 1082M deep.
I was late but this was such an awesome video. I can't wait to try Blackwater diving. Annalise was a wonderful narrator. The plankton floating around was sooo mesmerizing.
You should!
Absolutely great content. And quite inspiring as well. I’m ready for a black water dive! 😎👌
This is so unexpected of you Johnathan to now be a part of the adventure in Hawaii. Nice that Annalise is the narrates the video during when we're watching this in Hawaii, as well as pretty amusing from watching her scuba diving on the Hawaii night dive adventure. So how does she like having to wear mask, for Covid 19? Scuba diving at night can make it difficult to recognize one scuba diver from another, from far view.
How overwhelming!!! The nightlife of the open ocean is beautiful! The pelagic seahorse was awesome and all of the juvenile fish were so cute. The scalloped ribbon fish was a favorite. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mother earth amazes us everyday ❤️❤️❤️
This is just awesome. I was in Hawaii a long time ago. I took one of those tourist submarine dives. It was so fascinating, minus the sea sickness. Doing that at night would be such an experience
How much did it cost?
Hello blue world team! I'm back here after 4-5 years and I've never felt this type of nostalgia. Thank you for making my childhood wonderful! This channel will always hold a special place in my heart❤
8:00 my favorite shot, beautiful
I thought the seahorse was going to be the coolest thing you found. But the rest of the animals being shown were as exciting or better. Amazing!
Wow! So many amazing creatures I haven't seen before! Love your videos! ❤
Yeahhhhh a new video! Love you all :D
Okay those creatures, (even the baby Dragon fish) were adorable. When i was young, i wanted to become an oceanographer and marine biologist. Never turned out that way, but my love for the critters that live in our oceans has stayed strong. My 2 favorite deep sea creatures are the Giant Phantom Jelli (cnidarian) and Magnaspinna Squid (cephalopod). There's a video that shows the squid sitting with it long tentacles hanging it has the longest tentacles of all the squids and can be 32 ft and longer. It looked so alien, and the Phantom jelly has four arms as opposed to tentacles which it uses to enrobe its prey. It it looks like it dances and sways the ribbons of the times around like four tiny cloaks. There is a lot of scary looking stuff in the ocean though I don't think anybody can deny that ; )
Incredibly beautiful and all! Well done, guys! You must try blackwater diving for amazing critters @Critter Hunter ☺️
What an awesome dive! Cannot believe the beautiful creatures u see in the big open ocean! Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
I was supposed to be going on a trip to Hawaii with my military school band in a couple months, but Hawaii got shutdown and now I’m very depressed because I know I’ll never get another opportunity. But it was nice that this video came out at right about the same time our trip got canceled. Love this channel, keep up the good stuff
i couldn’t think of anything scarier to do. Thank you for your commitment and your content
It's amazing how ocean can totally change from day to night offering different worlds. You have done a very good job😍😍
Just unbelievable...... MORE BLACK WATER.... VIDEOS PLZZZ .... 😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Always refreshing when blue world drops a video.
Great stuff, thanks a lot. We are always looking forward to your new episode. Loving the blue world.
Now this is was a pretty awesome Blue World video, especially cause it's a night drive, and that's very awesome.
Also hope yall are having a great day
WOW! I didn't know that all this amazing sea life comes up from the depths at night! Thanks for all the cool episodes.
Very cool! I can’t wait to have the courage to do this myself! Awesome footage!
Subhan Allah, so many amazing wonders!!
Those creatures are eerie but stunning!
I used to watch this all the time when I was younger! Decided to come back for some nostalgia, I'm already subscribed again XD
Welcome back!
Beautiful & amazing, thank you for lovely clips 🌺🌺☺
That was wonderful! Thanks for telling us what it was you were seeing.
The shark was like "what's going on here, why so much something glowing,i think im gonna see one of them,ow ow ow it touch my body! this thing is wild! im gonna swim away! whatever that i i hate them!"
Wow, I had NO idea that there are pelagic species of seahorse. That siphonophore reeling in its tentacles to swim away might be one of the coolest things I've ever seen, too. Amazing video!
simply fantastic.... applause
Wow this is definitely on my bucket list. It looks so beautiful just to float in the darkness and watch the animals
I love watching these dive videos been watching ya a few years. Hopefully one day I’ll get a chance to go diving always wanted to.
Blackwater dive is scary but really amazing! Haven't seen such beautiful and mystery creatures during daytime diving! I guess I would be scared away if I was in the blackwater dive...😂 Thanks BlueWorld! Watch your videos everyday. The more videos the better!😉
Awesome, thanks!
Hey Jonathan,
How often do bioluminescence (the glowing water) occur? Also, as a suggestion it would be cool if you can make an episode based on the topic bioluminescent.
Hammer Aufnahmen, wie immer. Verdammten Schreibtischjob haben sie da.... :)
I enjoyed Annelise going into actual taxonomy
I love blackwater dives. Blackout dives are pretty spooky too.
Next time you upload a video about blackwater diving, you should introduce with "This time on Black World"
Woooow 😍😍😍

@@BlueWorldTV I absolutely will 😉👌
Amazing video! Loved the editing to put both dives together
Glad you enjoyed it! Zach-of-all-trades edited this video.
That shark appearing at night out of the dark stole the show!
I should really take dive lessons some time, this is so cool!
Epic shots! Loved this episode.

I bet the stars out there are incredible!!
Great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey johnathan
Thanks for showing us these beauties of dark.
I have previously asked you to make a video on bioluminescent jellies.
Thanks
Great video thx !
Glad you liked it!
Watching this stuff, super underrated content on YT. This is future history/science for the normal person. Thank you for this video!
Thanks for watching!
amazing episode and very spooky and interesting creatures to.
I wanted to be a marine biologist but due to health issues I was born with I cannot fulfill this dream! So watching these videos is honestly a dream come true 🥰
I am just happy to see these things via screen because I am too afraid to get into deep water, I feel like something might attck me in the bottom or in my back 🤣specially its dark.Kudos!!
Love the vid hope you have a great day! 👍
Sir....its so amezing....
That was absolutely fantastic ! I could watch this for hours...
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like your vids so much
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
You always surprise me every new episode. You inspired me to dive out from Asia.
Awesome!
Very nice, seeing all these special creatures! I'll take a look again especially for the cutting and montage. Seems like you guys have made it special mixing both locations into one docmentary. Jonathan, can you give some information as to the depth(s) where this was filmed?
And of course thank you all! Always considered a special gift when a new episode comes out.
Cameraman Zach here, for the Hawaii part we were over 7000ft of water but our max depth was 60ft with most the filming was around 30ft or less.
@@whalenunderwater540 Thank you so much Zach! Amazing that those creatures come up to 30-60 ft (10-20 meters). That really makes it feasible to encounter them during such a dark dive.
Really enjoyed this episode, thank you.
For the Florida team, the water was "only" 700 feet deep, and we were filming very shallow--30-50 feet.
@@BlueWorldTV And thank you as well, Florida team. 30 feet is my absolute limit and the depth of those oceanic water columns always amazes me.
i've never seen a siphonophore do that holy cow. That was amazing
Amazing vid Jonathan! Congrats again in 1 m subs!
I found out about you this year. I am currently old enough to be a scuba diver and watching your videos made me want to be a certified scuba diver! My sister said she could bring me to classes to be certified! Oh I can't wait to be certified!!!!!🌊🏝🦈
Fantastic!
Wow!
Beautiful Dive looks very cool. I would love to do this one day
Woah so beautiful
Thank you sir
That was awesome! I hope you do more blackwater diving!
