It looks 👀 like she uses her pinky instead of her ring finger a lot to do the 3rd fret spread I’d be surprised if she can reach 4 frets easily without changing/sliding positions on the neck right? She plays a 3/4 size bass right? She’s definitely a Guitar Hero of mine
Back in the mid 60s, my elementary school would have someone from the city's symphony come in for music lessons. One day, this 'instructor' went to meet with us individually and asked us what instrument we would like to learn to play. My friends were selecting violin. When he came to me I also said violin. He looked at my hands and stated that I would not be able to play a violin. I was was 9 months younger than most of the class and my hands were smaller than everyone else's. So I meekly changed my selection to viola. He discouraged me on that as well. As a result, I didn't learn anything believing I couldn't do it. When I was 25 (and heard 'Back In Black' by AC/DC) I was determined to learn guitar. I taught myself and it opened a whole new phase in my life. I got pretty good, joined a few bands and even started my own. It's been on of the best things I've ever done for myself. The lesson? Don't ever let some idiot tell you that you can't do something. I truly wish I had started back when I was 7 or 8. After all, Django Reinhardt plays with two fingers and he does quite well. Imagine if this oaf instructor from the symphony had advised Django? Or young Ellen, here?
Ok Ellen so dig this! Rush played my high school in the 70s just before they put out an album! We had a great theatre auditorium! They wanted to start playing before larger crowds. Students packed the gig! We knew within the first few songs they were going to be superstars!!! I like your choice of bass on this one
My favorite instrumental rock piece from my favorite rock band, played by my favorite cover artist and bass player Ellen. Glad to hear those laughs again.
This is one of those important aspects that many listeners might not pick up on - or, at least, not be fully aware of. She's more than just a kid who can move her fingers.
WOW!!! I discovered you guys this past week. Wow Ellen, you are amazing! I’ve watched quite a few of your videos already, and plan to watch all of them. Your skill is mind blowing! I love music, all kinds. I thought of a song I thought you might like. It’s called, open your eyes you can fly, by Flora Purim. There’s a bunch of great musicians playing on it, one of them is a bass player named Alfonso Johnson. I hope you like it! keep on rocking!!!
Great job!!! You stopped at my favourite part though. Would love to see you play the whole thing. It's a tough song to learn though, that's for sure. Geddy is an amazing bassist.
I had a stroke and lost the use of my left hand at one point. I was an decent bass player before the stroke, and I can play the bass again, but my hands are very tight, so I hope to develop my bass playing by watching you play. If it works, I'll be sure to mention you in my stroke recovery videos. I can see that you will be a star.
Rush “Moving Pictures” was the first concert I went to, at the-then Coliseum in Seattle. (It became Key Arena and now I think it’s called “Climate-Pledge Arena” although I think it should be called the “Kraken Dome.”). But Geddy was terrific of course and Rush played for maybe 2 to 2.5 hours, coverings lot of their songs at the time. Alex Lifeson was really good and of course Neal Peart put on a show. But Geddy’s surely in my top-few bassists ever along with the guy from Yes. But I’m sure Geddy’s a fan of yours.
I tried learning that at 20, I'm 35 and I still haven't mastered it. Shame on ME. Frankly speaking that's the only part of the piece I can play reasonably well.
@@CoachEJKIII Oh, I didn't know. Bummer about the reasons in this case, but home schooling can be good. We did that with both of our kids since day 1, and the oldest is now taking college classes.
Ellen, you're gonna make gety lee very jealous. In a very short time you're out performing him great job thank you . I'm sorry for misspellings. I can't type. I used talk to text.
YYZ (Rush being Canadian, it’s said “Y Y Zed” ) for the Toronto International Airport letter designator. Whether or not they meant it that way, I’m not sure. You sure are coming a long way in your playing.
They meant it that way. The intro rhythm at the start of the song (Ellen doesn't play it here) is YYZ in Morse code. The drummer heard the code (-.-- -.-- -- .. ) from the cockpit of a friend's plane while flying into Toronto!
For anyone who has ever complained that their fingers were too short to play bass, you now have no excuse.
For sure. I still don't know how she does it? It's amazing.
Mine are too fat to play mandolin 😂
F U I'll keep making excuses instead of practice

One of the best bass lines in rock in my humble opinion well done once again Ellen 👏
Was waiting for this one!
Awesome!
LOVE IT !
Awesome. Great fingers
Did it perfect ❤
Very smooth, tight, and very precise bass playing to an extremely difficult piece. You, as always, are amazing.
This should be the first entry in "my top ten favorite bass lines. Part 4!" ? Please make a part 4, please 🙏
i was hoping you would do this song for a long time. Geddy would be proud. ❤
Hey Ellen you rock 🤘
Awesome!!!
Absolutely outstanding!
Your playing is always right in the pocket and never rushed(no pun intended).
This is one of those important aspects that many listeners might not pick up on - or, at least, not be fully aware of. She's more than just a kid who can move her fingers.
So good Ellen! Can’t wait to see what your future holds 💜💜💜

Amazing!
Geddy Lee is one of the best technical bassists
😮🙂👍🏼excelente! Me encanta como Tocas el bajo! nena.🎈saludos desde CDMx. de México.
Dude!!
❤❤
It's always depressing when you see a child play something you've struggle to learn for years (and still learning). Great job kid!
"inspirational" not "depressing" 😉
greetings from ingtk
Neuveriteľné , ale super hranie s tými malými prstami, wow 👍👋

Holy Geddy Lee!

Great mydaughtr
Hi Ellen, Nice Job again you're still my favorite bass player (sorry Bootsy and Victor). I love that Bass it plays just like Geddy's Rickenbackers
Luv to see you collab with Tal Wilkenfeld. Maybe an interview?
Здорово
I can't imagine how good she'll be when she reaches 20.
Good. Drum track is scary
I notice you pick up riffs and post them quickly. It's nice to see such progression so quickly. Try a 45 minute jam for dexterity. Rock on! 😊

Somebody needs to send this to geddy, he'd LOVE it.
Just curious..... Can you play bass like Lemmy??;
Ell , all I want to know is when are you going to release a CD of your own?
last time Hysteria , now YYZ I played for half a year seeing a little girl played it made me feel more noob
Geddy....
Geddy Lee would be proud.
Can you play Chris Squire?
Hey Sister, Soul Sister...Ah, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ee....
no way
Watch out Charles Berthoud... She's coming for ya..! 🎉❤
5 как мастер
I see her on stage playing with Geddy , Alex , & a ""Angel in Heaven named SIR Neil Peart
Tiny, but fierce. This girl sure knows how to play bass
So is Ellen a celebrity in school yet? :)
She's now home schooled. It's near impossible to attend school when you get popular like Ellen since the bullies come out of the woodwork.
@@CoachEJKIII Oh, I didn't know. Bummer about the reasons in this case, but home schooling can be good. We did that with both of our kids since day 1, and the oldest is now taking college classes.
*Les Claypool would approve*
Geddy 2.0
I have no excuse on why I can’t play this now
