  • The Yokosuka D4Y Suisei ( "Comet", Allied reporting name "Judy") is a two-seat carrier-based dive bomber developed by the Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal and operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. Like many other Japanese aircraft of the time, the D4Y lacked armor and self-sealing fuel tanks and it was not until the final variant, the D4Y4, that the aircraft was given bulletproof glass and armor protection for the crew and fuel tanks.
    Despite its flaws the D4Y Suisei was used in various roles reconnaissance, night fighter and in Kamikaze attacks. The D4Y was also involved in one of the final kamikaze attacks on August 15th 1945, hours after the surrender of Japan, with Vice Admiral Matome Ugaki in the rear cockpit. All three aircraft were destroyed by the US Navy.
    As for the kit itself by Fujimi, the kit turns out a decent model. Sadly the kit's cockpit was missing detail. And the decals have a bit of visible carrier film. Other than that its a fun quick, fuss free kit. So join me in this video were I build the Fujimi 1/72 Scale D4Y4 Suisei (Judy) with a muddy diorama.
    Thanks for watching dear viewers!

    I can't get past the 5:45 mark, the video stops playing and a black buffering screen shows up.

      I'm sorry to hear that you have had trouble playing the video. I always watch the full video after rendering & saving to make sure its fine. After that I always watch the full video after uploading. In order to make sure its playing fine.
      I have just check the issue myself but haven't had the same issue. I have tried it Signed in & singed out of CZcams, the playback was fine both times. I also used a VPN to see if it was a regional copyright issue causing the problem. But its playing fine with no issue. The only thing I can think of is it might be an issue on CZcams's end. I hope it is playing for you now. If not please let me know (and to anyone else who is having trouble) & I will contact an CZcams to see if its still a problem.

      @@MFD541 what you have made so far looks amazing. Sadly this model was damaged beyond repair during a move in 2021. So getting the birds eye view of it is no longer possible. However please feel free to use any images from this video.

    What is the purpose of the five angled white stripes on each of the horizontal stabilizers? I've seen photos and drawings of similar white stripes on Val dive bombers, Kate torpedo bombers, and perhaps some seaplanes as well. I've seen similar stripes on some WWII Japanese naval aircraft cowlings, too, I believe. Was this some sort of visual guide system for close in tight formation flying?

    • @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels
      @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels  Před 2 lety

      unfortunately I'm not sure of the purpose of the white lines on horizontal stabilizers. I think you guess that it was a visual guide system for tight formation flying, makes the sense. I'm aware of a book called "Japanese Naval Air Force Camouflage and Markings, World War II"- By Donald Thorpe (1977). Hope this can help you!

    horrible job for a citizen of a country of great craftsmen, not even my nine year old son leaves the models so ugly, better make bricks or bird cages!
