  • Gateaux piment are crisp and crunchy, a bit like falafels. We usually eat them sandwiched inside a buttered french baguette. One of Mauritians favorite street food.
    Ingredients:
    450 g Yellow split peas
    2 Spring onions (finely chopped)
2 Strands of coriander (finely chopped)
    1 - 2 Red chillies (chopped)
    1 Onion (small) (chopped)
    1 TSP Fennel seeds
    1 TSP Cumin powder
    1 TSP Turmeric powder
    2 TSP Salt
    Cooking oil for deep fry
    Ingrédients:
450 g de dholl de petits pois jaune
    2 échalotes finement (hachées)
    2 brin de coriandre (hanchées)
    1 - 2 piments rouge (hachés)
    1 oignon (haché)
1 cuillère á café de graines de fenouil (gros anis)
1 cuillère à café de cumin en poudre
1 cuillère à café de safran en poudre
2 cuillère à café de sel
    Huile de friture
    Notes:
Blending the peas - don't blend the peas to a smooth paste. Gateaux piment will turn crispy and crunchy without adding baking soda if the peas still a bit chunky.
Fennel seeds - may aid for healthy digestion and reduce gas and bloating.
Heating oil - if the oil temperature is too low that causes the food to start absorbing the oil. So, if you've eaten fried food that tasted overly greasy, chances are it was fried at too low a temperature.
If you didn't soak the split peas ahead, you can soak them in lukewarm water. This will speed up the process.

Hi 🤗 we did not add any since we soaked the dal overnight and if you add water it won't come out crispy 😊

Why adding so much stuff garlic cumin etc.. that will spoil and burry the original taste.. I prefer 100% mauritian dholl chilli chive onion n salt..
