This is the year after I met her. I was in 2nd grade and went to school with her daughter. It was an open house. My mom couldn't come. My dad couldn't come, no one was there that I knew and I was very sad. In walks Natalie Wood, and Robert Wagner. They looked like a million dollars. Robert Wagner, smelt of this amazing cologne. Natalie looked gorgeous. I couldn't stop staring at them. even at that young age, I knew who they were, and I knew all about them because my mom was a Hollywood industry fanatic. All of a sudden Natalie looked at me and gave me the most wonderful, loving smile, and Suddenly I felt like a million dollars. She made my night. I will never forget it.
She really loved children and liked having them around.
A woman calling for respect during her interview shows her integrity. This is her interview after all.
so sad to think that Natalie only had about 2 yrs to live after this interview....she was so beautiful at 41....thanks for sharing this

I cannot imagine a modern actress speaking in this manner with this amount of class.
What's your point? If you read even the smallest amount about her life, you'll see that it was filled with the opposite of "class" (through no fault of her own) so why glorify the dishonest "keeping up appearances" fakery which made so many actors' lives a misery during the hypocritical "golden age of Hollywood"?
And I can think of plenty of actresses who speak "classily" now: Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Kristin Scott Thomas, Cate Blanchette, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Garner, Lupita Nyong'o etc. And if you don't think they're as famous now as Natalie Wood was then, that's only because you don't watch movies as much as you used to.
The only thing I'd agree with is that the questions have become less classy. But interviewees can only take their cue from the interviewer.

@@scattygirl1 it's about difference in approach. Like everyone takes a dump now and then, but where one would say "i'm gonna go shit my arse off", people of class would go gently, with something like "Excuse me, while i'm at the restroom, powdering myself".
We all know, why she goes out, yet, the sound of it splits 1st-graders from the steerage.

Absolutely beautiful, and every inch a star. (I did come up with this--Joan Collins said it first.) I fully understand her stopping the interview. It was not live, it was one minute into the interview, and even a little "whispering" on-set can be a distraction. (I just finished shooting a scene--where the same thing happened.) Quite a lady. RIP.

I never took a great deal of notice of her until "Majorie Morningstar". She was superb in this part combining depth and vulnerability and never made a false move throughout the whole film. I am now a fully paid up member of her admirers club.

Usually its technical reasons, recording issues etc. Believe me, interviews can be a way more complicated process BEHIND the camera. Especially in 1979.

Natalie is my favorite of all actresses who started out in the 60's. Gone too soon... If she still lived, I believe she would've been still working. She didn't seem to be turning into the one of those fake looking actresses, so I bet she'd be interested in a lot of mature roles that would get her an Oscar or two eventually. I hope that's the way it's been in a better, alternate world. I love you, Natalie!
Wow how interesting to see one of NATALIE'S very last interviews...(I assume it's one of her last interviews) - and to see a slight touch of her temperment - I really miss Natalie Wood - her movies were wonderful. I always enjoying her singing efforts in movies.

She was a frail, beautiful, lovely person. Never have I seen a woman as breathtakingly beautiful as Natalie. I think she looked the best in "Splendor in the Grass", "Love with the Proper Stranger", "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice", and "All the Fine Young Cannibals". What a GODDESS! Robert Wagner and Richard Gregson were such lucky men.
I would add "Brainstorm". That was made the year she tragically died. She was at the absolute height of her beauty then.

The last interviews of Natalie show a very unhappy lady. I think her nerves were unedged and she was not being a diva but couldn't handle abrupt distractions. As they say, the windows of the eyes show the soul. She was living but not really if you know what I mean. Watch all the last 3 year interviews and see if you agree with me. Sad last look at a great legend.

Awesome - never saw this. Ms. Wygant was known from (at least in my memory) the Dallas/Ft. Worth area as a film critic. I remember her on the local Dallas stations always interviewing celebrities and actors and reviewing all the top movies of the day! Great interview! Thanx for sharing!

According to the biography "Natasha", both of her parents were born in Russia. Her mother went to the US in 1930, where she met Natalie's father, also a Russian immigrant. I have no idea why Natalie told the interviewer otherwise.

Natalie Wood died under mysterious circumstances at age 43 while on a weekend boat trip to Santa Catalina Island on board Robert Wagner's yacht, the Splendour. Outside of drowning, many of the things that happened are unknown. It was never determined how she entered the water. Wood was with her husband Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken, and the Splendour's captain Dennis Davern on the evening of November 28, 1981. Authorities recovered her body at 8 a.m. on November 29, one mile away from the boat, with a small Valiant-brand inflatable dinghy beached nearby. Wagner said that she was not with him when he went to bed. The autopsy report revealed that she had bruises on her body and arms, as well as an abrasion on her left cheek, but no indication as to how or when the injuries occurred.

Here's a scenario. You are at work (assuming you work). You are being filmed and judged on your performance. You are a professional who takes her job seriously and cares about the finished product. Someone rudely prevents you from doing your job well. Somehow I doubt you would handle it as graciously as Miss Wood who, by the way, was forced to WORK to support her horrible, threatening stage mother and family since she was 4 years old. Do you think the cameraman can relate to that?

cont'd... she had a hard time with unexpected changes. she constantly self medicated her intense anxiety. her shrinks could only help her so much, albeit her being so ridiculously full of talent and brilliance as her husband who one her best, said...she was still troubled..lovely, good hearted, but troubles..because they were missing something. it could have saved her life. but: she was in the wrong time period for that, sadly.

I think also back in the early 20th century when people immigrated to the US they stuck in neighborhoods filled with people of their same heritage and would make the neighborhood sort of a "Little Russia." In which Russian would still be spoken and food, music and magazines would be from the "Old Country." So even if they did move when they were small they probably heard it a lot. I don't know enough about Natalie's parents for their story though.

About Ordinary People, it's ironic that Redford thought that Natalie was too young to play Timothy Hutton's mother because she was only seven months younger than Mary Tyler Moore - Moore being born in December 1937 and Natalie in July 1938. Moore did look older even though she was the same age as Natalie. I'm thankful that Redford decided on Moore because of a professional reason rather than a personal one.

I read that Natalie and Redford could have worked together again in Barefoot in the Park but she chose to take time off, then for The Great Gatsby, she was offended when the producer asked her to do a screen test first, so someone else got the part of Daisy. Then I heard she wanted to play the mother, played by Mary Tyler Moore,in Ordinary People which Redford was going to direct, but he felt she was too beautiful and looked too young to play the mother of Timothy Hutton, so he didn't cast her.
Natalie wanted the part that Mary Tyler Moore played in the movie "Ordinary People" and Robert Redford was the director and he didn't even consider her for it and this hurt her pretty bad.They never spoke again and Natalie died!!!! I think it was a slap in the face to her because she had him in two of her movies!

She was very commanding! She is my favorite actress. I was talking to my daughter about the fake plastic look of today's hollywood, and how she aged gracefully and naturally she was so beautiful. I think women like this new look but most men don't. I'm not talking about moderate surgery but when it goes overboard.
