  • The tape this live version of "House Party" came from was the result of a whim on the part of Frank Pavlich (house mixer for the J. Geils band) and me many years ago.
We were doing an outdoor show in Georgia (Athens?) in the late 70s and I suggested that we put my boombox cassette player next to him on the mixing board and see what a tape made of the band's set sounded like after the show, becasue the record feature on the boombox had level adjustments.
Both Frank and I were amazed at how good the mix on the tape was (a testament to Frank's mixing skills). I was also amazed that the version of House Party on this tape was one of the most high-energy versions of it Geils ever played.
I cleaned up the original tape as best I could and here it is.
PS: There is a picture of the boombox that recorded this tape at the end of the video. I think it was an AIWA, but I'm not sure since it's been gone for years.
Strap in, put on a helmet, and enjoy the ride.
