If I hadn't found the metal base, which was really an accident, I was gonna use a plastic bowl turned upside down, and painted with the same faux finish. Hope this is useful! Thanks for commenting!

If you hadn't had the cool metal base that was also just the right size, what was your other option for the base? Did you have another choice before you found that metal one? I love this project!!!! I want to make bunches of these and I need an idea for what to use for a pretty base if you could plz help.

      hi
I know its been four years, but did you find source for base?

  • @derekkass626

@sharonie11, you can buy "shrinky dink" plastic at any arts and craft store. It is generally kept over in the children's craft section, by the popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners and comes in sheets of 6 or so to a package. But in my experience, there was NO difference in the finished tiles between official shrinky dink plastic and recycled #6 containers! Thank you very much for watching, I appreciate your feedback!

it was fun but the only thing that we dont use cheap plastic in our lamp we use metal or iron crystal or colored glass or 3ar3ar wood but great work

Maybe it's just me but it looks like painted plastic and not very attractive. I loved the idea of it but the end result is nothing like those beautiful lanterns
