Finally something that explains what I need to do as my unloaders built into the pump. Cheers
Thanks for sharing the knowledge
Thanks for watching
Great explanation. Thankyou my friend.
great video
Thanks for the video man
Great Video..
Awesome Demonstrations..
Awesome thanks for watching
Just a question my unloader valve is like the one you show on picture do I have to connect garden hose on international valve or put a plug an connect in the external valve thanks
I’m actually glad that I came across this video. I just added pressure washing as a service to my business less than a month ago. My unit is an Easy-Kleen Magnum Gold 4000. I had to get the pump replaced because it went out after using it two or three times 5 years ago or so. I ended up replacing the old pump with an GP 4040. The biggest warning that my service manager told me,...was to not let the unit run for no more than 45 seconds when the handle is released, so that I don’t burn up the pump. After watching this video, I’ve realized that, that is more than likely what happened with the original pump. I remember that I’d let it sit there for a period of time, while not realizing that hot water is circulating within the pump. Another reason that I’m now considering a buffer tank, is because I hate not letting the engine cool down before shutting it down like I do with my lawnmowers. Thanks for the video
You can either do a buffer tank or you can plummet where the line will run just out on the ground so when you let off the gun it was just the water the grass at that point. Or you can put a ball valve on the end of the gun and turn the ball valve on and just let it flow that way
Power Washing thanks for the suggestion. I can just remove the tip from the gun like I do when I prime the pump.
I have a pressure washer from northern tool with a unloader valve built into the manifold. I want to add a external unloader valve so I can dump the water on the ground to keep the manifold cool. I am curious if you haver ever just taken the guts out of the stock unloader valve so you do not have to try and get the unloader valves to play nice together. Thanks for the video.
Question... When it comes to unloader valves, what's the minimum pressure it can be set at? Just to give you a little background of what I wanna do... I wanna add a copper coil around my portable generator exhaust that runs my carpet cleaning equipment. I was told I need to add a unloader valve before the heat exchanger... To release the pressure. My equipment will run a max of like 1000 psi. What psi would I set the unloader at? I saw your other video about the zeromatic but those say 3600 psi. Is that max? Hopefully someone can help me! Thanks!
Where do I get that plug from to plug unloaded valve after I run my Napa’s return line ?
quick question not related to this video. I just bought a new 4000 PSI annovi pump and it blew the thermal valve as soon as i started it up. I turned water on then started the engine, as soon as i hit the trigger , it blew the spring and button completely out of the valve! I noticed after that the valve was in the top( high pressure) side of the pump.
My question is, shouldnt it have been in the lower low pressure side of the pump?
I think they just had it installed wrong at the factory. I want to make sure i put it back in the right place so i think i need to put the new thermal relief valve in the bottom and plug the top high pressure side.
Can I add a bypass to pressure washer that has a built in unloader? Im thinking of plugging the old unloader and adding a new one with a bypass
Can you run a bypass on a built in unloader valve (the one that came with the machine)?
The discharge seems to be in the back of the pump with no outlets anywhere near the nob under the unloader. Or would I need to buy an external unloader valve to run bypass?
What size inlet water hose to a GS 690 is the correct size 1 inches enough?
Just got my new unloader valve and I’m getting ready to plumb it. My normal pressure washing fittings are usually get on Amazon. But where would I find the nipple to connect it to the high-pressure
Amazom
So after rerouting the hose to the buffer tank how long can it sit while running without pulling the trigger?
Would adding a thermal relief valve help?
Thanks for sharing. Do you have any idea how to bypass a Predator 4400 psi 4.2gpm.
Hey were u able to have this question answered or were able to figure this out? In the same situation and was wondering the same thing
does the bypass line need to be high-pressure hose or can I just hook on a barb fitting and a pvc hose?
Hey jason can i run the bypass hose to buffer tank and connect the garden hose to the pressure washer..instead of having an inlet hose from buffer tank to the PW,,will there be a problem when the tank is filled?(i've got a hudson float valve installed)Hope u understand my question..thanks
Better have the incoming water connected to the tank with that float valve and water to the pump coming from the tank and bypassing to the tank. Otherwise you will just overflow the tank while the pump is bypassing.
How do you remove the black hose with yellow collar from the fittings ? They don’t looked crimped
just ordered a 4.0 GPM water blaster belt drive. Can I use a 30 gallon buffer tank with this pressure washer?
Yes you sure can
Hi Jason. Thanks for all of the great videos. I just plumbed my pressure washer yesterday. I will be using a small tank with a hudson valve for the incoming water supply. I want to run the bypass hose from the unloader back to the tank. My question is how do i keep the water from the bypass hose from overflowing my tank? There are periods where i have to go on top of roofs or other situations where there is a significant time where i am not spraying. I have been letting it go on the ground but was hoping there was a way to contain it in the tank. Thanks again!
When the water is coming out of the pump going back to the tank. The water from the garden hose is not coming in to the tank. So the water flowing is only from the pressure washer to the tank and it won’t allow it to overflow
@@kingofpressurewash Lol. I thought about this for a day after i posted this question. I came to realize this after the fact. I appreciate your help. I have been watching your videos and have learned so much even though I have been in business for 12 years! Thanks again!
shane meador Anytime I can help you out man I’m here for you
Hey Jason, I have a predator 4200 psi 4.0 gpm pump. This pump has a built in unloader. If I were to add an additional unloader that I could bypass to a buffer tank, could this pump suck from the buffer tank if unload was mounted low enough?
Wondering the samething. I'm in the same situation
So once you plug the button with a 1/4 plug. Do you take the black off off the top and plumb that to 3/4 braided line ? If so what fitting would be needed to go from where the black hose goes into the top into a 3/4 barb ? 3/8 male to 3/4 barb?
You can also do it in three eights line to
Good morning I have dewalt 4200 psi 4gpm. Pump is a Triple AAA made by Comet. If I am not flowing with my gun pump heats up. how can i cool down the pump. My pump does not have the black hose you are mentioning in this video. If you can help much appreciated.
If you haven’t figured it out,…go back and watch the video where he talks about an internal UV at 4000 psi and the external UV at 3000.
If you have an external unloader and it still is partially venting when the trigger is pressed. Is it supposed to do that ? It only does so when a tip is used in the gun. When no tip is used the unloader valve completely stops venting when the gun is pressed.
can you clean for hot water with this machibe
I am just starting out, I have almost that exact pressure washer. Will it pull from a buffer tank? Thank you.
Yes it will
Thanks Jason!
What tips you use to have hardly no run off when washing roofs?
I like the 25 degree if I can walk it
Hi there can I do this with a Simpson 4gpm machine ? I try a couple spots and water just shoots out as soon as water get to it ?
Yes you can
@@kingofpressurewash do you have a video on how to do it ? Sorry I’m a bit lost here
Can I plumb a thermal release valve to my buffer tank?
Just to clarify, the line from the unloader (top) should go to your H20 tank and then back into the inlet valve (bottom)? Or is that right or is it the other way around?
I have a built in unloader valve AR pump. I saw someone use 3/8 quick connects on one of those external amazon unloaders. Instead of threading it on. Will that work also?
I have an AR pump also and interested in plumbing it to a buffer tank.
UPDATE: the 3/8 quick connects did work without any issues. I don’t have a tank yet so my line goes to the ground and dumps water from the pump when I’m off the trigger. Still have plenty of pressure just make sure the built in unloader is set to max and the external one is set just a little bit lower so that it will trip first
@@bradspressurewashing2303 i have a AR pump also. So i can order an external bypass and quick connect it where i would normally put my high pressure hose?
@@bradspressurewashing2303 i can basically have both unloaders connected by a quick connect?
What line or hose can I use from the unloader to the buffer tank? Can I use my spare high pressure washer hose and plumb it into my buffer tank? Thanks
You can use low pressure hose to.
@@kingofpressurewash like garden hose?
@@jameshasudungan7205 yes that would be fine.
Hi,so if i dont have buffer tank just disconnect hose and plug to protect pump?makes me think why dont it come that way from factory.
Not understanding question
@@kingofpressurewash He wants to know if he does NOT have a buffer tank and he can simply plug the bottom port and let the top hose simply run on the ground, why didnt it come from the factory this way. I think it is bacause most people would complain about wasting water or think it is broken and the leak is a bad thing. Most consumers of things like this are not very tech. or mechanically smart. At least thats what i think.
Does buffer tank need to be higher then the pump ? I have a 4gpermin do I really need a buffer tank
I have had the pump 3 feet higher than the buffer tank and have no problems at all
Power Washing ok thanks I have mine leveled but it wouldn’t suck enough water
Saldivar 27 what kinda pump is it?
Belt driven or direct drive?
Would u recommend getting a new pump if u don’t have that unloader hose so it’s easier to run it to your tank
Just remove your pressure hose fitting and then add the external UV. It will come with that black hose that’s needed to be disconnected.
When adding a external valve, is it difficult to set those other valves to a lower psi like you said?
That’s what I was just thinking. Hope he answers
Did you find an answer?
He answered it in the video.
Does your bypass line need to be high pressure hose?
Yes
Hi Jason, learning a lot from your videos. I have a 4200 psi 4gpm Simpson/ Honda engine pressure washer. The unloaded valve installed in this machine doesn't come with the openings and the black hose that circulates the water back into the pump, so is not posible to connect a hose to a buffer tank. This machine doesn't have that option. If you could help me figure out how I can connect a buffer tank to prevent the pressure washer to overheat I will appreciate so much. Doug Rucker replied on a message that in this particular model probably it won't be possible, told me to contact Simpson. You also mentioned that a friend of yours uses a hose to release water while the wand is not in operation. Please help me with this, thank you!!!
You’ll just need to remove your pressure hose fitting to add the external UV. It will come with the black hose that you need, to bypass into the buffer tank, or on the ground.
So you can run the bypass to a tank even if your 4 gpm machine is being fed by a garden hose right?
You would want the water supply to go to the tank with a float valve and supply the pump from the tank.
Yes,…especially if your pump is direct drive.
With the water recirculating back to a buffer tank(say 50 gal minimum) how long can you let it run without pulling the trigger and not causing harm to your pump? (I have a 4gpm) thanks!
Forever a long time cause it won't get hot
My pump has a pressure relief valve, am I alright with just that? I mean, it works. I left mine running too burn off old fuel and "warm up" it started busting water. I thought it was broken at first when I seen water on the floor.
It will burn it up the seals
Jason what can you use to plug the unloader valve?
Why would you want to plug be unloader valve?
In the video you said to put the top one into the tank, and plug the bottom off
Justin Stocker yes where the hose was going back into the intake side of pump we need to put a plug there
Power Washing Yea thank you I was just wondering what you would use to plug that up. Is it a piece I can buy from the store or is it online?
You can buy it at the store. It’s either going to be a quarter inch or a three-quarter inch NPT thread plug. It can be brass or stainless
So if you run the line from the buffer tank to the supply on the pressure washer, where do you put the supply from the main water source ? Such as the water coming from customers hose bib ???

Anthony's Crystal Clean Power Washing LLC so it goes in top of the buffer tank with a Hudson flow valve
Awesome thank you. And another unrelated question. I’m setting up my 12v softwash system, I purchased the ever flow 7gpm, using 3/4 braided inlet, and 1/2” braided outlet. I burned a fuse already after setting it up. Should the pump be pulsating as it’s being used ? I am using an 8gpm rated j rod as well
No it should not be pulsating
Here is how you adjust it
czcams.com/video/QKjh-xbsZUM/video.html
So which port gets plugged the top or bottom of the unloader?
Just depends on how you're mounting it
I'm buying a Simpson 4400 psi 4 gpm direct drive with built in unloader valve what psi gpm unloader valve would I need Simpson PowerShot 4400 PSI 4.0 GPM Pressure Washer - PS60843
OMG -I have been looking all over for this, but when you don't know the correct terminology, it is impossible to find. Thanks much for the simple explanation. I am needing to reduce 1700 psi (none-adjustable) pressure washer down to 400 psi. And the 'unloader valve' and a buffer tank seems to be it.
Yep that'll work you could also use a different tips to
@@kingofpressurewash but, I am assuming it splits water-flow by the same ratio. Is that correct?
So what happens when it’s molded into the head of the pump? How would one do a buffer tank to that?
I did another video on this you just got to order an external one
Can you just let it drain on the ground instead of going into a buffer tank as long as you leave water running to the pressure washer while not spraying?
Can you make a video actually adding the second unloader valve? I need to add the second one, but I want to make sure that I will actually do it right before I go around messing with it. thank you very much.
Remove the pressure hose fitting, add the external UV, add the pressure hose fitting, disconnect the bypass hose from the bottom, plug that with a plug fitting, plumb your bypass hose (I used a 3/8” low pressure hose) to your buffer tank, set your internal UV to max pressure, set your external UV to less than the internal. My buffer tank has a water pump that pumps water from it if I want to go mobile. I can disconnect it and hook a garden hose directly to it as well. Hope this helps.
@@bmlandmanagementco4981 Thank you very much. I appreciate the response.
@@thepalmspowerwashllc510 you bet.
I didn’t understand when you said it, at what psi is the internal unloader set at and what psi is the external unloader set at?
Like set internal at 4000 and external at 3800
So basically have the internal wide open?
JonBoatBilly Yes
Power Washing thank you sir
So add on unloader 3000 psi and build in unloader 4000 in order to work
Yes
If your pressure washer is equipped with a thermal relief valve, could you not plumb it directly to your buffer tank?
How do you adjust the unloaded valve to 4000 or down to three?
By using a pressure gauge
Power Washing yep. A small investment that pays dividends for your company. Mine has a quick-connect, which is convenient if I need to remove it. It was given to me by my service manager. It does its job by allowing me to be precise when setting my pump pressure.
@@bmlandmanagementco4981 so i can just quick connect my new external unloader valve to my outlet of my original unloader valve with just a quick connect?
@@bmlandmanagementco4981 like i can just put a quick connect in my built in unloader and on the other side have my external unloader?
@@jrob2kmusic333 you could do that to make it work, if your built-in unloader is non-adjustable. Sounds to me that you have a consumer grade unit that is good for doing light jobs around the house. There’s nothing wrong with them. You just have to use them for what they’re built for. My setup consists of the pump, the adjustable unloader valve, the pressure gauge, then the hi pressure hose,…all in that order. My pressure gauge is connected by quick connects. Use quick connects as much as possible, so that removal can be made without the need for tools.
Hi, Jason my pump wont build pressures. 5.5gpm
Does it got water? is the belt on it?
@kingofpressurewash I think I may have an idea, now there red cap on the top of the pump, would that have anything to do with. System is plum just like in the video. Thanks
Just keep shooting water you be fine
Isn't the unloader actually the pressure regulator for the pump?
Yes it is
What if my unloadee valve has no hose connected to it lol
Then you have a built in unloader valve. Go back and watch the video. Jason explains how to set it up with an external unloader valve when he explains the 4000 psi and the 3000 psi.
Less talk man.
Well that’s no fun
