The biggest issue with factions in squad is map rotation. I don't think I've played the Australians or MEA for months.

Kinda sad. USMC was previously added, but with them, they added also water themed maps and boats. With RuVDV they could have added spawning with parachutes, perhaps some ability to SL or CO
To be fair actually making a paradrop nowadays against a enemy who has any mildly competent and working Integrated Air Defense System is basically impossible as the VDV themselves demonstrated, at best you'll act like AirCav and be inserted by helo or roll as motorized infantry on vehicles

@@Markov092 true but with a seaborn landing you have the advantage of the navy, in a airborne assault you're limited to whatever CAS the airforce can provide plus their CAP and SEAD capability.
You can still land a amphibious force under contested skies and to a degree contested waters.
There's no way of landing an airborne force on contested skies, the vulnerability of transport aircraft plus their smaller numbers (compared to amphibious force) put a lot more at stake of failure.
I get that we wouldn't really see them for the Russian Ariborne Forces, but it'd be kinda cool to see some of the AK-100 family in the game at some point down the line.
Maybe when OWI decided to add the IRGC as new REDFOR faction to the game.
AK-100 series were developed for exports. they are basically AK-74Ms but specialized in 5.45, 7.62, 5.56 and different barrel sizes. But there are a few pictures of them on Russian soldiers in Ukraine so who knows. AK-12 is the upgrade from the AK-74M but would be cool to see the AEK-971 be added since that was also spotted

@@cherrypoptart2001 Russian special forces like the AK-105. It's essentially the AK-74 equivalent of the short M4A1, the MK18.
@@cherrypoptart2001 AEK is an abomination to keep operating in the field, it's mostly used by SpecOps, and usually - police units that operate on the already conquered territories seriously behind the LOC, where you don't encounter dust, sand, dirt, concrete pieces and lots and lots of water. And it's way more costly to produce. That's why it wasn't accepted as the new standard issue rifle despite non-existent recoil due to the inner mechanical counterbalancing system. In Ukraine it's usually run by the Russian Guard, who fulfill exactly these tasks. The ones of them on the frontline prefer anything, even an AKM, over the AEK

The factions in this game are all over the place regarding time period. Like the amount of unique objects the VDV actually operates is a lot including MRAP's with 30mm guns among many things.
Plus them still having crimea era gear LOL. Models are still great im just being nitpicky
It’s the same with the Marine Corps, I think all the factions are based on the time period the game was originally released in 2015~. In the marine corps we have high cuts, all grunts (minus LAR and Recon) use m27’s with an SDO or VCOG with suppressors. In game it is a good reflection of 2015 era marine corps minus the m16a4
Especially with the British. They need a really massive overhaul, like half the stuff in-game for them isn't even in service currently. The L85A2 is out of service for most frontline units, they'll be equipped with the L85A3 variant which should have mounted a 4x LDS sight, bipod foregrip, and laser sight all standard issue. NLAW equips every squad and is about as prolific in the British Army as the AT-4 is in the US Army. SUSAT only really equips reserve units, and the L86 was retired 4 years ago. The Puma is out of service and is only really fighting fires now in Cyprus; the CVRT/Scimitar has also been retired; meanwhile the Warrior CTAS was only ever a prototype vehicle.
Some of that stuff can be halfway forgiven as they may only recently be out of service, but the damn ancient player model ticks me off. It's like if the US army model was still wearing UCP and IOTV, except not even the British Army Reserves still use the Osprey.

If you didnt know, squad is based in the year 2016 and not modern day.
This update coupled with the infantry overhaul really show that the initial emote scare does not mean the devs have given up. Lots to look forward to and i am hyped.
The AK12 was just updated and improved by kalishnikov concern eliminating the 2 round burst due to feedback from users in the Ukraine war. Just FYI. And those are strangest looking BTRs I’ve ever seen.
The vss as you mentioned is in fact a marksman rifle, but there is no vss in the video. In the video you have as val which is an improved version of vss and is an assault rifle. About the ak 12, you are 100% right and moidawg and devs should have that in mind.
I heard that early AK-12s were better than current ones, its a bit boomer not seeing the AK-15 in the game, but not really that much
The VSS and VAL are meant to fill both roles as needed, but it’s actually far more suited as a suppressed assault rifle. 9x39 round is even fatter and slower than 7.62x39 so it’s effective range and over all accuracy is not much better than a standard AKM.

The BMD-1s are an interesting choice gameplay-wise. They use ABT-101 armour with is 91% aluminium. This keeps it light so that they can be transported by air, but won't be able to use their key advantage in-game. Their massive downside is that 7.62mm ammo can penetrate the sides of the tank, and 50 cals tear these apart from almost every direction. Their thickest armour is 23mm of this aluminium alloy at the front of the turret, and 15mm on the front of the hull; 10mm of aluminium at the sides didn't protect this from small arms fire at 100m. I don't know how they'll replicate this in-game, but if they do it accurately this thing will be very vulnerable. Hopefully the speed will make up for it to allow for quick deployment before bugging out.

You know that an aluminum alloy of this thickness has advantages over steel and that is why aluminum was used. Also, the side of the transport is only penetrated by armor-piercing bullets with high speed (not your usual 7.62 bullets), also, all Russian army bmds have anti-fragmentation-kevlar lining (like the one on the tiger), which, according to the developers, allows you to contain armor-piercing bullets. Although, BMD 1 and 2, which are in service with the militias of the DPR and LPR, do not have such linings.

The 2 firing modes of the AK 12 are closer to reality because the most redesign eliminates the burst mode.
2-rounds mode showed itself useless, so it was eliminated in the most recent versions of the gun
Correct, the obr. 2023 model ditched the two-round burst because it was seldom used and added complexity to the FCG.

Keep in mind, squad is based in 2016. I dont know what was the situation in the VDV stockpiles in 2016 but seems like OWI most likely decided that some of those vehicles were not as commonly in use. Altho would be nice to see the bmd2 or a diffrent t72 variant or maybe a t80

Quick note for you MoiDawg - one of the RGF HAT kits has the long range Russian scope on it. This isn’t the first HAT kit in the game to have a long rage scope (if that’s what you meant). There’s also a British HAT kit with a SUSAT, if I’m not mistaken.
The SUSAT is an abomination and the British government should be ashamed of themselves.

AS-VAL has an artificially low rate of fire (you can check it in comparison with ak12, but keep in mind that magazine has 20 rounds), I don’t know why the developers reduced it

I think with the addition of the BTR-ZD it would've been a good chance to finally implement the PU scope on the ZU-23-2 mount. That would make the system a lot more potent, even for the insurgent factions. Like the scope has always been modelled, just not implemented.
Kalashnikov is gonna get rid of the burst fire mode for AK-12, so there's that 😸

But seriously tho - yes, they determined that the burst fire mode offered no significant improvement in grouping to justify additional complexity in construction and possible confusion in usage. Sounds about right for a main weapon for regular infantry.
The scope should be a 1-4x time zoom, the one that looks like copy of the famous Elcan optic
Also the VDV uses more T80b/bvm than T72B3
well they are working the attack helicopter for the marines still so I would say the faction is only half done and in the future it may be updated without at least it's own attack helicopter whenever they release those so maybe also a t80 at some point
Tanks all play essentially the same in Squad the way it currently is, who cares if it's a T-72B3 or a T80

@@swatbot2611 T-80BVM has better hull armor, ERA, Faster top speed, reverse speed , acceleration . Its actually a big competitive difference since NATO tanks are straight up better than Russian tanks in almost everyway. (if we exclude the T-90m and T-14 which are for special russian forces)
@@swatbot2611yes and no. Changes to tank armour over time now mean that different tanks have to be played in different ways to remain competitive. The leopard is great at long range, when hulled down, because of its unique armour ratings, but is probably the worst tank in the game within 300m (T62 aside). Each tank now has strengths and weaknesses to play around. The Abrahams is still OP though with its higher fire rate. Some things will never change.

@@OperatorMax1993the game has had free updates for what, 8 years now? The only income stream available was increasing the player base with new purchases. Veteran players and MilSim enjoyers lambast OWI for making the game more accessible (casualisation) and then also lambast them when they introduced paid emotes that have had zero impact on gameplay experience for me or anyone else in the community I help run. They have to earn a living somehow. There is zero patience, compromise or respect from so many people who have a thousand+ hours in this game but treat OWI like playing squad is their right, and not a mutually reliant cooperative process with developers who care about their work, which they need to be paid to do.

That thing on the SV-98 is not a carrying handle. It's a heat shield and those vehicles are not BTR variants but rather BMD variants. They just call it BTR because "BTR" is a designation for troop carriers.

@@illumina9489 there are both, to be fair. The ribbon over the barrel is a heat shield intended to stop heat haze from obscuring the line of sight through the optic, and the handle on the right side of weapon is, indeed, a handle.

Im a gun enthusiast and I have shot the AK 74 and 12 (Im russian).
Nice to see them included in the game. I can say from experience the recoil is noticeable when using. The muzzle break is very effective. Not much difference on full auto but on range 2 round burst was quite great. I hope its going to be just as good in game.

It may be enough to finally lure me back after giving up on the game several years ago. Post Scriptum is largely dead but has always had far better infantry gameplay.

According to EFT, the carrying strap over the barrel has the function of preventing heat from the barrel itself to affect visual fidelity, thus accuracy, of the scope.
Kinda wish they had some sort of paradrop/helicopter parachute capabilitites cause they are THE AIRBORNE but i can understand that it is a lot of complicated work to implement and balance for just one faction.

It's not a carry handle on the SV-98, it's a "bande anti-mirrage" (forgot the name in english) but basically it covers the barrel for that the heat generated from a shot doesn't obstruct the optic

The two fire burst has been removed from the AK-12 from what I heard. Many other improvements were done, because many Russian soldiers complained about it. The AK-74M is still mostly used through.

Usually PSO-4 using with VSS Vintorez. Vintorez used as a sniper rifle, while Val as a assault rifle. But actually they are very similar to each other.
Russia update is exactly what we needed after the PLA was added. Now perhaps some independent faction should be added next, like India or brazil.

Standard Russian ground forces HAT kit has a 1P78 if you take the RPG-7 Tandem instead of the RPG 28. So it's not the first HAT with a decent sight for long range.
People keep talking about the VDV as an "amphibious faction", probably because of what OWI wrote about them - "The Russian Airborne Forces is a fully mechanized Russian Armed Forces branch specializing in fast and hard-hitting *amphibious* assaults". I'm pretty sure this was a typo tho. It's in their name - Russian AIRBORNE Forces. They are paratroopers and helicopter-borne assault forces. The BMD's and the Sprut are literally designed to be paradropped. Sure, all their stuff is also amphibious, but so is pretty much everything the Soviets designed
Exactly, I'd rather they and the US marines lose their MBT's and get the MI-24P (can carry eight men, has a coaxial 30MM and Rocket pots) and the UH-1 Gunship that was accidently implemented in 3.3, and as further compensation buff the infantry kits, a mix of burst fire AK-12's and AK-74Ms for VDV and more Mi-8's on their layers and maybe even give US Marine HAT a single Javelin? I don't know, I just love asymmetrical factions in Squad like INS and MIL, and they could easily expand on that.
I think it's less about what their role is IRL and more the role they're intended to fill in the game. I don't know if there's a layer where the VDV do a proper naval landing like the US carrier disembark on Black Coast invasion.

Was it just a fever dream of mine or the insurgents had the Zis AA mounted on a truck before? I don't remember seeing it recently but I think I ran into it before. But all in all I really like this faction and mostly because I'm usually a LAT player and I like to have more capebility.

Main thing about AK-12 is not rails, it's floating barrel, that increases accuracy quite a lot.

It affects, but slightly. Better barrel's alloy, thicker profile helps greatly more than independent from handguard barrel.

Your videos are good, but I’d really like if they were maybe 10 minutes longer to go a little more in depth for the weapons and vics. Like how much health do the BDMs have relative to MTLBs? Eh it doesn't seem as bad as some people are making it out to be but it definitely is an incremental upgrade at best. I think simply updating AK-74Ms to a similar spec (which they are supposedly doing to some degree) would be a better move considering the benefits of the production AK-12 are mostly in regards to mounting stuff
@@TacticalBaguetteissue with mounting options is that the handguard rail doesn't hold zero, so lights and laser experience pretty big zero shift. The dust cover mounted optics also aren't ideal for the same reason, and the buffer tube doesn't accept AR spec stocks
For more realism, the loadout screen needs to tell us our AK12 comes with an optic, but for every 7 out 10 spawns, you won't have the optic...

Independent Tank Battalions of the Air Assault Divisions are equipped with T-72B3s. T-80s are usually being sent to the Naval Infantry brigades
Just a note, I did some testing myself and I've came to the conclusion that the Bastion Anti-Tank missile is better suited for moving logistics vehicles. It does literally no damage to any armoured vehicles, not even from the rear and is only best suited for Logi trucks.
If both LATs in a Squad take kit 1 you can fire 4 heat rounds without rearming.

What would you think of a Polish faction? I think this could be a great faction to add into Squad considering Polands recently bulked up military budget and their commitment to be one of Europe’s largest military force
Poland is still a joke of a military. French would be a better choice for BLUFOR since they have been keeping their military up and running similiarly to the British. Would be nice to have a French Foreign Legion faction.

@@capt-rex2894 None of those really matter. Fancy gear doesnt make up for troop quality, experience, and training. Poland still relys on conscripts and has few if any combat experience. Their SF is probably the only capable component and they would still be outmanned and outgunned in contrast to other NATO countries. Would still take them over Germany as a faction tho.

Bastion ATGM is from 1980s. Newer generation was called Arkan, from 90s. Bastion was in a training video for the crews of T-55AM2b. I do not know however the newer version over the Arkan, but Im prtty sure it was developed.
