As an Eagles fan, these games were terrifying to watch. No matter the lead, you never felt safe. I still hold onto the fact that there will never again be a rivalry this close. Yes, Kennett’s Curse is a fantastic rivalry, but a one-sided one as opposed to this.

As an Eagles fan, winning the 2006 GF gave me a sense of relief that's hard to describe.
Frustrating thing as a Crows supporter, West Coast had our number (with the exception of R22 2005) but we had Sydney's and Sydney managed to avoid us in the finals but we couldn't avoid West Coast in either Prelim.
Have to admit as a WCE can, I can't remember Adelaide being prolific back then. Very unlucky to not notch their name.

The SA clubs rivalry is vicious. Between the supporters hating each other (I am one for the record) and the teams getting into a punch up at the Ramsgate its vicious
Awesome breakdown, glad you're making these. Probably worth mentioning Eagles ridiculous come from behind wins against Geelong and Carlton in 06. CZcams West coast eagles come back kings to see the momentum swings they were capable of. Also that Goodes got the Brownlow in 06, 3rd and 4th were Kerr and Judd. 111 votes between Judd, Cousins and Kerr in 05/06.
I believe that it probably has never be so easy for clubs to accept (in hindsight) a GF defeat by less than a goal. It was indeed a fair result, both teams where pretty equal overall. Of course swans fans can say “one point, we could have won 2006 as well”, but in the same vain, they could have lost 2005. Same goes for the Eagles the other way around. I believe the fact that both got their well deserved flag makes the rivalry so beautiful.

Once again, another brilliant video for you guys. I might have a suggestion for a topic you could talk about: famous comebacks (e.g. Essendon's 69 point comeback against the Roos in '01) or amazing upsets (e.g. 2016 Bulldogs, 2012 Sydney against Hawthorn).

For me growing up in the late 90s, it was WCE and Geelong that had a huge rivalry, the WCE and Swans matched that rivalry easily haha
Hey, this is decent stuff. I lived in England for twenty years and absorbed everything about the round ball code. Returned to Australia as an adult in 2003 and did the same with Australian Rules. I was already into it as a young kid before heading to the northen hemisphere, and re - connected pretty much straight away.
Although a Footscray supporter, the rivalry at the time between Brisbane - Colingwood gave me a story (from a neutral's standpoint) to buy into straight away....then West Coast - Sydney came along.
By the way, I don't know if the chaps that run this channel are familiar with Tifo Football channel at all...your illustrations and art direction are consistent with what's been happening over there...which is A Good Thing as far as I'm concerned.

I was 9 in 2005. These Sydney vs West Coast game of the mid 2000s were some of my greatest memories as a footy fan, after jumping on the lions bandwagon in 2002-3 and only starting to seriously follow the AFL in 2004. While individual games stand out, such as 2010 grand final graw, both St Kilda vs Geelong games in 2009, Hawthorn vs Port 2014 prelim, only Hawthorn vs Geelong 2008-2013 comes close in terms of a sustained rivalry. Current day, the closest rivalry I would say is Collingwood vs West Coast given the 2018 GF and 2020 EF.
That 05-06 era haunts me as a Crows supporter, we should have won at least one premiership in those two years, we had the talent.

The greatest rivalries are probably: 1. Carlton v Essendon 2. Hawthorn v Geelong 3. Richmond v Collingwood 4. West coast v Sydney (for that period of time) I don’t really know who else 🤷🏻♂️😂

Salty freo fan here. Firmly believe freo would have a flag if we beat Sydney in the prelim in 2006. For some reason we could beat the eagles but not the Swans. Just the way it goes I guess.
