Or maybe not specific songs but things to think about when picking a song? Okay I'm pretty sure you've done a video like that before, but AUDITIONS ARE HARD and I think lots of people appreciate you sharing your experience and opinions.
I’ve done Requiem and You Will Be Found for auditions before, but I cut them to around 2 minutes so they didn’t have other parts in them (You Will Be Found is 6mins total so it wasn’t hard)
So I didn't even get a callback for _Hairspray_ it's fine.....its fine it's fine I'm fine. I mean I'm happy, I'm fine I'm fine I'm fine, I mean I love it. And in a perfect world, a miracle would happe-

Oh god. I’m 12. I did I dreamed a dream at an audition. I’m weird. I got a part though? Oh right - I saw your your little note at 5:43 - thank god it was a school production. Yaaayyyy I’m not weird!
I sang ' On my own' for my annual singing class audition and it went very well ... I think I was lucky that my singing teacher isn' t that familiar with musicals😂

Madison is banquo, Jefferson's MacDuff and Birnam wood is congress on its way to Dunsiane."
I personally also wouldn't suggest singing songs that make you cry intensely for auditions, mostly because I know that some people(myself included) "ugly cry" and that would probably make it a bit weird to sit through(considering that you're kind of just sitting there trying to sing and?? You're just crying a lot) plus the fact that when you "ugly cry" you tend to have difficulty breathing and that would really just screw things up quite a bit.

So my high school did Heather’s my senior year and I originally tried out for Heather Chandler, got a callback for Veronica. Its is short, but just long enough, it has you sing low, as well as high, and it is crazy easy to remember the lyrics and cues. It is absolutely perfect, and I am using it for my next audition after the pandemic, whenever that may be
Damn have I been subscribed for two years already?! That was the video that made me a fan!!! For 2. I once knew someone who auditioned Anything Goes and did the huge tap dance, for a drama course 😭😭😭 My go-to audition song is 'I'm not Afraid of Anything', it's so vague in terms of character because there isn't really one to begin with and it's a song you can really turn to your favour because the song is almost completely based on interpretation, it's also a good song to show different types of acting styles AND vocal ability :)
there are 1000s of good audition songs and one good audition song for one person would be wrong for another person. saying specific songs is a little closed off - this is advising people on the types of songs to avoid. it gives you the opportunity to learn and look at your choices and see what is right for you. not me just saying you should sing this song to however many thousands of people who are all different.
Amy Lovatt hmpf, I get your point... alright then how about a video about your favourite audition songs ? 😏 that would be interesting too and you can sing stuff 😂💪🏻 also THANKS FOR REPLYING I FEEL SO HONORED 😍😱

no shade to anyone who does this but don't pick songs that you know don't fit any of the requirements for the show or your range or you as a person ( theres more music out there then well ever know just look some up!!!)
Bit of advice- don't audition with 'satisfied' from Hamilton. Even if you're going to only sing angelica there will be a lot of awkward pauses, if you want to do angelica I suggest congratulations as it still makes sense if you don't say Alex's bit
OMG. for a while i thought each song you played before your list was an example of what not to do, then I realized it was just to act as a numbering system
An example for the big ensemble part, an Ex. Is More Than Survive from Be More Chill. And an Ex. For the over sexualized songs is Do You Wanna Hang From Be More Chill (Sorry for all the be more chill references)
I actually got a bit of a problem with the age because I‘m 14 (ppl say I look like16/17) and there are not that many songs that are written for older teenagers, you know? xD Do you (or really anybody) have any tips?
Amirah Starkid Honestly, go for a song sung by an adult! Just make sure it’s appropriate. My “age-appropriate” they mainly mean,”Can a teen/kid sing this?” It doesn’t have to be sung by a kid in the original production. :)
I'll be honest I mostly blanked out for the props bit because the mere mention of Assassins reminded me that I need to force everyone around me to listen to this amazing underrated musical
Glad you mentioned assassins, it’s not too well known but I watched an amateur production of it last night at the fringe and really enjoyed it! Certainly interesting! 👍🏼

I loved this video and found it very helpful! My issue now is finding auditions near where I live for my age. I'm a teenager and no company wants actors my age, only older, experienced, adults. Which is frustrating. Could you do another video on finding the right auditions? Love you Amy
Madisson Cameron same it’s so annoying. Every show has roles for kids, oldest being like 12, and for adults, youngest being like 24, and I’m 16 and can’t pass for either of those ages

Amy, do you think I would be able to sing seventeen at an audition coming up in the future? I know there are two people, but I think I could easily sing it with one, but was worries my is the little bit near the end when they stop singing and it’s just music(and they are meant to be kissing), should I do this or just give it up? I just think Heathers is such a good soundtrack so sing to it’s really in my vocal range!
an unfortunate reader I would not do Heathers, in my opinion. Although I do not see Heathers as a fake musical, some casting directors will. If you’re looking for something like Heathers that you can sing by yourself, may I recommend a song sort of in that range? It’s called,”killer instinct,” and it’s from Bring it On.
Madeline Wright It’s a common belief that Heathers is,”too modern, basic, etc.” Plus, it’s been done within the last 5 years. I’m not one of those who believe it’s a basic musical, I’m just saying casting directors have weird standards.
I'm not sure if you've mentioned this in the first video, but generally (unless they ask you to) try not to sing a song from the show or character you're auditioning for I mean, from my experience of auditioning, being in companies and speaking to directors, some unspoken things they're looking for when looking to cast someone as a particular character is whether you can portray them, but also analize them and understand them, its like the difference between knowing a subject in school and just memorizing it, they need to know you can interpret them and aren't just copying the original version; Also they might think "well, this person just doesn't know any other musical/doesn't have enough experience" So yeah, that's a big no-no for me
lol my voice teachers picks all my songs and they're super unique and usually cut from shows ! i always get questions about it at an audition and that they've never heard it which feels good because i can REALLY make it my own. a good tip!
For my middle school auditions at school, that let us sing 30 seconds of our song with no piano. One time, I brought a keyboard into the audition room, but I got the part. 👍🏻
I Speak *Six* Languages......25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.......(if you dont know that musical than I HIGHLY suggest you listen to it, it's very very very good....but you probably already have listened to it already and I just didn't know that, so now I'm just wasting space in the comments section......)
Amy, I love all your videos about audition songs. Could you do some videos that are like, good audition songs for different voice parts? Cuz I'm an alto and it's always soooo hard to pick a frickin audition song.
This is so helpful! I have an audition Thursday and I’m going to try to go with What It Means To Be A Friend from 13 which is a song I perform well. Love you Amy!! 💗
Another song for number six could be Raise You Up/Just Be from Kinky Boots when Lola says “What you can do in twelve, we all can do in six.” (Tbh you could use the part in History if Wrong Guys where Lauren’s counting off different scenarios with guys for anything from 1-6) Oh a couple other song suggestions: 1-Last One You’d Expect from Gentleman’s Guide “Only one, only one, only one, only one above me on the tree” 3-Satisfied from Hamilton “Three fundamental truths at the exact same time” 5-Tradition from Fiddler on the Roof “I have FIVE DAUGHTERS” 8-I Hope I Get It from Chorus Line “Lets do the whole thing from the top-a FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT” /So Much Better from Legally Blonde “I will be there at eight, when they unlock the door” /38 Planes from Come From Away (the end ofc) 9-Prologue from Great Comet “Everyone’s got nine different names”

I LOVE Spelling Bee! hahah definitely should have thought about it more!
Amy: I can’t think of a song with six in it!
Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss: 😏
Amy, I love all your videos about audition songs. Could you do some videos that are like, good audition songs for different voice parts? Cuz I'm an alto and it's always soooo hard to pick a frickin audition song.
This is so helpful! I have an audition Thursday and I’m going to try to go with What It Means To Be A Friend from 13 which is a song I perform well. Love you Amy!! 💗
I love that song! great audition piece!
I love 13!!!!!
Another song for number six could be Raise You Up/Just Be from Kinky Boots when Lola says “What you can do in twelve, we all can do in six.”
(Tbh you could use the part in History if Wrong Guys where Lauren’s counting off different scenarios with guys for anything from 1-6)
Oh a couple other song suggestions:
1-Last One You’d Expect from Gentleman’s Guide “Only one, only one, only one, only one above me on the tree”
3-Satisfied from Hamilton “Three fundamental truths at the exact same time”
5-Tradition from Fiddler on the Roof “I have FIVE DAUGHTERS”
8-I Hope I Get It from Chorus Line “Lets do the whole thing from the top-a FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT”
/So Much Better from Legally Blonde “I will be there at eight, when they unlock the door”
/38 Planes from Come From Away (the end ofc)
9-Prologue from Great Comet “Everyone’s got nine different names”
I LOVE THE PROLOGUE OF GREAT COMET SO SO SO SO SO MUCH
Haha this is so funny! Actually the first video I watched from you was the first part of this series so I got the "on my own" joke!😂😂
Six could’ve been ‘I speak six languages’
Seventy ‘six’ trombones?
Love this Xx
