Oh man, this video would have helped me a ton back at university.
Thank you for taking your time to upload this!
Eduardo, thank you for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it!
Nice video, my hydroflame torch broke today and I have to use a torch like this to solder some herbst, thanks for the tips!
I'm loving this 👌
Thanks Charles!
That’s great what you did buddy 👍👍
Welcome Ali. Tganks for watching
Thanks for the help, Steve. I certainly need to be more liberal with the heat shield, more accurate with the wire bending, and probably spend a little more time carving out the molars. That may help with the gaps & porosity. And I'll move the model around to let gravity help. I need a little solder bowl like yours!! 👍👍👍
Hi Laurie I opened up this Amazon shop to help me create CZcams videos. If interested www.amazon.com/shop/szaradentallab

Superb. Hard work.
Thank tou
This is what i need for my learning , thank you Steve for video . I'm begginer in this and I have big problems with soldering ... i hope i will soon or later learn to do it

Hows the soldering going?
@@SzaraDentalLab it is great thanks to you Steve , after 3 years of learning I can say now that I learned it 😁 ...
@@harioutkast7115 way to go Hari!
Hi, great video. Wanted to ask if you experience shrinkage from possibly poor soldering? I'm trying to figure out why RPEs don't fit or "too small" or sometimes rocking. Any feedback/ideas? We do use heat shield as you recommended. Is it not enough?
Sometimes you can overheat the bands and causes them to fit very tight. When this happens you need to ream out the band (where solder joint is on otherside) this will help widen the band and give you just enough play to fit. The quicker you flow solder the better your appliances will fit. Do not overheat!
@@SzaraDentalLab thank you!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can you make a video on finishing those appliances and cutting the excess of wires. Thank you.
yes
Hey Steve! What size solder do you recommend using? I’ll be making RPE’s here shortly, but I’m far out of practice with soldering..Thanks for the helpful video!
Check out www.amazon.com/shop/szaradentallab I list the solder I recommend. The thicker the better for soldering rpe. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Hey, I have a question:
Could I use a regular soldering iron on dental appliances?
www.amazon.com/shop/szaradentallab
My brace has broken the part that goes around the molar. Can it be soldered
Great work! Have a question for you! My torch went down in the middle of a soldering, it was full but no flame or pressure, just made a pop and no flame. I managed to disassemble it and now butane is flowing but no with oxygen, torch makes a BIG orange dragon flame, do you know how to fix it please?! Thank you very much for your time
Thank you for the compliment Augusto. I'm sorry to tell you Ive had the same problems with many different torches. I have taken them apart as well. I suggest just buying a new one. Blazer torch $60 highly recommend

Please check out my amazon shop. All my soldering items are listed including the exact torch I use with no problems!
I had a similar problem with mine, it seems to be at least in my case some dust or soot in the nozzle. I blew it out with compressed air and it worked fine. Be sure the air vent is open fully.
If you’re gluing the wire to the model what is the purpose of tack welding and are you tack welding to wires together on the model . I roughen all sides of wires and bands put my flux down then cover the wires and bands with plaster kind of like a heatshield this seems to work very well I do like to thick solder you’re using I’m not used to that.
Perry Lane I glue the wires in place then tack weld. Thick solder is just a preference. Some would argue it's easier, some would say harder🤔 I always use heat shield because it really works and saves me time

what type of pliers are the ones for shaping the expander called?
When you glue your C clasp and tack weld it. What kind of glue do you use and how do you tack weld it?
You can also use any type of wax , melt it on that points and so on
Man your soldering looks so clean! Still can't get ride off the bubbles in mine's
Send me a video on Facebook messenger I'll see whats going on
Szara Dental Lab Ok! I'll try to record it tomorrow morning 🙌
Avanzada Are you using thick solder ?
I never saw this! 1/16 thicker 1/32 thinner. I prefer thicker because I solder so much. I am adding this to my CZcams channel. You will probably be doing this also www.amazon.com/shop/szaradentallab

What is heat shield made of ?...can you suggest any brand?.it would help.
never saw this comment. I am not sure what heat shield is??? good question.. Heat shield is an actual name you can buy it from Great Lakes orthodontics or off my Amazon shop www.amazon.com/shop/szaradentallab
How do you clean the flux residue off of the solder joints? I have an ultrasonic cleaner but the solution I have doesn't work well for that.
High pressure steamer
Thnx for the video ,i want to ask about the name of the metal that u use in solder ... is it argent ?
It's called silvaloy 56t cadmium free
Hi Steve what is the name of the bowl you are using ? where can I find?
I HAD THROWN THIS BOWL AWAY. IT WAS MADE OF ASBESTOS!. I ORDED A SOLDERING HEAT SQUARE ON AMAZON WWW.AMAZON/SHOP/SZARADENTALLAB.COM
Hi! I am pretty sure I have already asked this, but can you please tell me which glue you use to hold the wires in place - I couldnt see it on your amazon page. Thank you

Lauren Matthews try orange sticky wax, that’s its name
Hi, Steve how do you know when to bring your solder in.?
fcmorado89 right at the point when wire and band begin to turn light red. Better to bring in early than after wire turns glowing red. Study the video and practice, practice practice

Hi steve I like u work the way you do. You heating direct to the model but model its not burning why? And also on top of the wire what kind of materials u add for hold its that plaster?
Thank you Mahin. I am using heat shield. It prevents anything from burning. Also protects all wires and screws from being damaged by heat
Thank you for reply
Do you have any picture for that heat shield? And also if it possible to make a video for twin block can you please update !!! I want know how it makes thx thanks steve

Szara Dental Lab thanks for answering, I live out of the USA, but I'm try to order that shield.
Szara Dental Lab I'm a dentist and I'm studying orthodontics, I LOVE the lab part, I have 2 more questions for you: 1. What kind of welder equipment did you use? I saw like "2 pens" type. 2. I found glue that you use. Did you get it en Amazon too? I normally use patafix (UHU) but it's unstable. Thanks again for answering. I'm a fan! Greetings from Honduras
@@SzaraDentalLab what is the soldering temperature?
@@czinczok I'm not exactly for sure
Efficient technique ... 👍🏻 Can you tell what is that heat shield material is ot some kind of plaster and also the glue you are using to stick ..
keep posting
The glue is called Fill it. The shield is called Heat Shield
Where I will get 'fill it 'glue??
how do you deal with bubbles. I use oxy propane and have inconsistency from time to time even after 20 years. I recently tried pulse arc welding but haven't mastered welding to bands. Similar sized wire welds small and beautiful but still rely on solder joints to molar bands. Appreciate the videos U.P. Orthodontic Lab,LLC.
Jon Hewitt: I only seem to get bubbles and or porosity within solder joint when a.) the wire isn't in contact enough with band creating a slight air pocket b.) overheating weld too much causes all kinds of problems.
Are you in Northern Michigan? what pulse welder do you own?
just bought an orion 150. we are located in Marquette, MI. love the videos, learned of you from watching retainer designer. thank you!
Cool. Love Northern Michigan. Thinking about buying puk2 welder. Stay Busy😎
