Thermal Cameral Drone Above The Volcano And Lava Field By Grindavik

- I did this thermal scan to show you how the hot lava field surrounds the village Grindavik and the little crater that burned down 3 residential homes is also still visible. It's also possible to see the path of the lava and where it has been accumulating, showing how useful this thing can be to react to hidden lava channels, like the one that crawled over a lava barrier 4 days after I thot this.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel.
Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
This is something your government should buy from you and use to show all tourist hikers, that even if it's black crust and not glowing, it is not safe to walk on.
I agree wholeheartedly!
Or people can just look down and see their shoes melting and smoking.
Fascinating! Great perspective with the partial thermal overlay in the center.
Thank you so much for your excellent work. As an old hippy born in 1956 , I have always been fascinated with the natural world and it's changing faces. Your work adds to our understanding of these things. The editing is first class and your photography is phenomenal. For years to come scholars will watch your work to chart the progression of Iceland growing into adulthood. It is much appreciated thank you sir for this beautiful insight to your wonderful country. Much love and blessings from Scotland
I also am born in 1956.
Included in everything you already said, Gylfi's choice of music is always on point.
Here here but born in 60 😂😅
This old 1956 hippy fully agrees 😁
Well said! He really is beautifully documenting his dynamic country of fire and Ice.
This is a great way to look at the area, with thermal images overlapping the visual field 🤩, thank you. Equally fascinating is the volcano with the hot emissions in thermal display.
Well said - my sentiments exactly.
Thank you for sharing and it goes to show how dangerous it is to walk on lava that seems to be cool to cold.
Thank you. You have dedication, talent, humility, with a side of Icelandic sarcasm. Much admiration.
I agree...perfect perspective. Very dramatic. You said you would deliver and you did in spades. This is the best thermal image of the entire volcanic field I've seen on the internet. Thank you Gylfi.
Beautiful and informative-thank you for being such a chronicler of these events!
Oh I've been waiting for this!
Gylfi, you are a true artist. Thank you.
Appreciated :)
I absolutely agree! The drone footage, pacing, editing, overlay, and music, perfect combination.
It's fascinating to see how much heat is still there, as well as the currents of the heat and gas rising from the vent. Hidden beauty 💜
Masterful work Gylfi!
Definitely a different perspective. Thank you Gylfi .
Welcome :)
Beautiful camera work, and it looks so peaceful. You can't beat the thermal drone for volcanic footage.
Fascinating. It lets you see exactly where all that lava is going.
Thank you so much! I've always wondered what thermal imaging would look like, and now I hope you will be able to sell, or give, this vital information to the Civil Defence and/or Iceland's Met Office. Truly this remarkable. You have worked so hard doing this, so congratulations of this tremendous achievement. Best regards from Wendi UK. ❤🌻🌻🌻
What an excellent idea for an overlay.
Thanks a ton :)
Thank you so much for this unique thermal drone flight! The lava field looks like a beautiful and priceless mosaic of precious metals and precious/semi-precious gems. As always...WELL DONE!
Wow that's stunning. The way you show us the path the drone is taking ...all looking so innocent until we see the thermal views.
These would make beautiful prints to sell. 😊x
I was just thinking the same thing, kind of. Someone could do a watercolor painting of one of his shots.😊
Absolutely agree! The perfect footage for thermal stills.
A large glossy print would be worth 50 to 75 USD to me. I love unique nature prints. This would be a unique purchase. Please sell one for 7,000 to 10,000 ISK. I would love to support you if the quality was high. I would not want a water color, as the thermal images alone have intrinsic color flow and balance.
Wow that was spectacular and a genius bit of editing / post production. Thank you
Thanks 👍
Oh may goodness. Yet another stunning production. Well done. 👏 👏 👏 Northumberland. 🇬🇧
Thank you very much!
Thank you! So deadly, yet so calming.
Wow, the volcano is magnificent, it's such a treat to compare regular optics and thermal. Amazing to see that small batch of lava still holding heat. The music went with it incredibly, thank you for this audio and visual treat! Much love to the people of Iceland.
Wow... so fascinating I love the way the thermal drone images are superimposed to the land mass! 😊
Gylfi, I believe you have gone far beyond what any man has done before. This is extraordinary beyond words.🙏
Just beautiful! ❤ Thank you!
Great work! This is the first time I've seen the thermal image laid over the regular image. There is still so much heat trapped under that black surface.
WOW! Thank you for sharing your amazing footage! Love!
What an awesome overlay! Thanks
So clever. Well done. Also informative and beautiful.
Great work, Gylfi. These IR images show where the lava is flowing, where the crust is very thin, where the breakouts are and so much more. Very valuable.
What a great way to show where the freshest lava is flowing!
Welcome 👍
Super interesting!
This video is great, especially for the people who wants to get closer to the volcano and have no idea what’s underneath ,beautiful but very dangerous as well ! Thank you for sharing the magic of Iceland !
😍 Wow! I'm really surprised, that the northern lava field is still so hot! And we can see hot spots in surprising places!
Great idea to overlay normal and thermal footage!
Normal cam: fog and black.
Thermal: Every colour of the rainbow and interesting shapes on the ground!
Again a fantastic work! For the first time I could see where fresh (and very hot) lava flows underneath, without the thermal images you can only guess, because on the surface lava cools down and looks black. THANK YOU Gylfi!
Thank you Petra :) with greetings from the north :)
Great video of the thermal scans combined with the regular visible images for important context. It shows how almost all of the lava erupted since March and earlier is still hot.
Another video already! You’ve been an editing power machine this week. 😊❤
Less out now, I was all over the peninsula the first days of this trip :) more soon
That thermal imagery is AWESOME! All we can see in the visual spectra may LOOK "cool, calm and collected," but you make it VERY clear that this is still one very hot area! And no commentary needed - but the music was awesome. Thanks again so much!
Glad you like it :)
The thermal imaging is even more spectacular! Thanks.
More soon :)
Wow! It looks like an animated mosaic. Thanks!
Yes this is weird, but fun to watch :)
Wonderful footage! I love the two-image effect so we can easily see how the thermal image relates to the landscape. Such a great idea. Thank you! :)
I totally agree! ☺️
Stunning, Gylfi! The thermal superimposed over the regular video is very impressive. Outstanding!
Great video, these transitions from the thermal imaging camera. Really very interesting what you can see from these photos. Thank you for sharing.
... and the music... I'll close my eyes and dream
Everyone s saying that this is cool. I am saying that it is hot, hot hot. Brilliant idea with the overlay, its truly beautiful. 👍 I reckon you will get media enquiries about them wanting to use this footage. 👍
One of your best! Very enlightening!
Glad you think so!
Wow this is exciting. The picture-in-picture solution is optimal to understand the lava process in that area even better.
Gylfi, this is fascinating. I'm watching your cinematic panning with the IR overlay and it is SO COOL. Having said that, I know this does not herald good news for the peninsula. The photography is eye-popping while the subject matter and context are very serious.
I love this! The thermal overlay reveals the lava's heat, and I can understand better where it is on the visual map.
Welcome :)
Omg this is incredible you can see where a small new fissure has opened due to the white on the thermal I’ve never seen anything as revealing as this amazing thank you mr iieesland ! Old owl 🦉 Alaya uk
Hi Gylfi,
Great footage.
Iceland is hot
Always :)
i love the thermal cam as it looks like christmas in this video
thanks gylfi
Enjoy :)
Absolutely fascinating footage with the thermal image cut into the other image and such a timely reminder that just because lava has set it can still be very hot
Thanks and enjoy :)
everyone should see this fantastic work thankyou
Appreciated :)
Super good to see the overlay of thermal imagary 👍
Thanks 👍
Fascinating! Thank you, Gylfi.
What a fantastic video, Gylfi - Thank you!
Many thanks!
Your videos get better and better. The new thermal is quite amazing and the scanning overlay from thermal to normal is excellent. I don't think I have seen significant volcanic thermal imaging anything like this - not just in Iceland but globally. I also really like your music tracks and I wonder how you are able to compose this and do superb video editing and nearly the same time! An occasional - how I do this would be interesting. Well done, again, Gylfi
I was going to comment but others have said it for me - thank you so much for taking the time to do this - FWIW, the music was also lovely too !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, the overlay is so effective, and the music adds so much too
Effortlessly beautiful. So much time and hard graft goes into making these videos and we all appreciate it tremendously.
Ahhh been waiting for someone to do this.
Many thanks🙏🙏👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you for creating this documentary which is also a work of art. The colors and music make this seem almost peaceful and dreamlike while we know that in reality there is fierce heat and energy. I have always been in awe of Iceland and now more than ever. You:ve captured the whirlwind of science, art, magic, beauty, power and wonder of Iceland.💖💖💖
Thank you.
Thank you for the incredible footage. This shows so much more than the regular footage makes you understand a lot more
Thank you dear Gilfy for this wonderful video ! the thermal landscape is just art... and this completes our understanding of what happens in your country. take care !
From someone who is severely technologically challenged; this was very interesting to watch. Thank you and stay well 😉
Dear Gylfi, this is really art. The music is authum.
Great editing and camera work ^^
Thank you for your beautiful, and uplifting views of Iceland 🏆⭐️
Thank you very much!
I have chills. That was fantastic! It's like playing peek-a-boo ... I see you! Made my day!! Have a great weekend.

Another time the land speaks as the colors reveal the fresh earth .
Thanx for now , can’t wait until she feeds you more content .

Nice. I like when you use it to look for hot spots.
More to come soon :)

Thanks! 😄
VERY cool indeed - thank you for sharing this footage!!
Glad you enjoyed it
This is so cool, great idea for the video. 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks, it's a fun subject to work with
This was a wonderful video, good sir! The overlay of the thermal footage was stunning! ❤
Your footage shows how everything is connected in this world. I like how you have reverence for that.
Wow! You outdid yourself. Excellent!
Appreciated :)
Fascinating views and great footage. I particularly love the bits where the thermal image is overlaid on the normal view as it really helps to orientate one's self in the landscape. Fab work, thank you.
Many thanks!
Great footage .. and I always love your music choices 🧡👌
😁Thanks 👍
The spatter cone looks like a yummy cake lol
That's cool! Keep up the great work, and stay safe.👍
Thanks, will do!
Gylfi, you are an artist! This is a beautiful video, and I can only imagine how many hours it took to make it. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
This is absolutely stunning. Thank you so much. Greetings from Canada.
Brilliant footage thank you
Many thanks
Thank you for the colourful thermal footage… such a kaleidoscope
My pleasure!
So cool ! It's interesting to see the hot spots in the lava flow.
Welcome
Thank you for this video, it's beautiful and really helps put things in perspective.
It's an absolutely brilliant idea to depict the volcanic landscape like this!!! A very informative video and great music accompaniment!!! Please don't stop your work!!!👌👍👍👍😊
Brilliant method of presenting the information and really interesting to see the lava tubes that are invisible without the thermal view. And beautiful, too!
AMAZING!
Thanks 👍
Extraordinary imagery!
Thanks and welcome :)
Your considered and informative videos are always most excellent but this is next level stuff. Thank you for taking the time to produce this.
You're very welcome!
