      Steam tried this years ago, before digital became a thing...where digital copies where $5-10 cheaper. Retailers banded together (Circuit City, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, etc) and decided if the game prices weren't the same digitally for pre-order and launch, they wouldn't allow games in-the-box requiring Steam and its wannabe's (like EADM - which later become EA Origin and now EA Desktop App). They all (Steam and other digital stores) played ball w/ the retailers b/c they needed their foot in the door....and well, they began having wars w/ giving free extras if you bought at certain places - like free $5 to $10 gift cards or free DLC's or free pre-order bonuses or throw-in extra older games for free, etc. You even had Best Buy do Gamer Club with Reward Zone Stuff and GameStop had their own Pro Thing. Well, Steam and digital stores & 3rd party publishers cut hard later - and well, we saw who won the war, right? Yeah, do you see many - IF ANY - PC games at retail anymore? Yeah, Steam, EADM, UPLAY, and its 5000 wannabe's killed PC games on disc at retail and won the war.

      @SkyDragonElite Well it shouldn't be the case. Because physical gamers and consumers should not have to be forced to not only be REQUIRED to have an Internet connection but also be forced to 'rent' or 'lease' their games they have bought, like is OBVIOUSLY not the case with physical games and you actually OWN them. And why do you think this digital age is even happening or evolving? Because consumers are downloading their games, because they THINK it's more convenient (which nothing could be further from the truth) because they can't be bothered to physically change a disc, and also because they couldn't give a crap about everyday people who are working in the job they love but now are forced out of it, because of this. You would have been excused for people doing this because of COVID and lockdowns, but times have since changed and people are STILL doing it. And it's wrong.

    No digital can ever beat the beautiful sight of all the games on the shelves with all those hefty manuals - like in the "Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines", or "Diablo II", or in "Clive Barker's Undying"...Got around 210 PC games alone, Collector's Editions and such - nothing can replace those!

    • @dericksanzi2579
      @dericksanzi2579 Před 9 dny

      At least those games PC back in the day, their patches were often made public on Fileshack, FileFront, etc. So, if you backed-up the patches - yeah, you might be able to get those to patched-up. But, a lot of disc DRM's like Safedisc, Starforce, Securom do NOT work on newer Windows - i.e. Win 7 with one of the KB updates and Windows 8-11. At least Diablo II had patches to remove the disc-DRM officially with patch 1.12, provided you also copy MPQ files from disc to the right place. For CB's Undying - that has SafeDisc, so you'd either have to get around that if possible or you'd need to re-buy GOG version which has zero DRM; and thankfully, it's often sold dirt-cheap in sales on GOG for like $2 or less. And of course, if you buy from GOG - back-up installer files to CD, DVD, BR, etc.

      It's a pity that this video has less than 10k views even though it deserves millions of views, the true values of physical games have been rejected by some. I own a few retro game consoles and I know there are modable PS4 consoles with a large game library, but personally I prefer to both mod and own physical games. Some people always make me lose my feelings when they constantly criticize other collectors for wasting money, saying that they only need to jailbreak their device to get all the downloadable games for free. But they don't know that in the country where I live, many people download free games with 128gb and they quickly get bored and want to sell it.... I used to really like collecting physical games and after being influenced by people around me, so I modded a retro game console but then I didn't feel happy, stuffing a bunch of free games made me bored quickly but when I collected each physical game box with the instruction booklet, it felt like it. indescribably great. My joy returned.

    I support what you are saying 100%. Most of the PS5 games actually works completely offline by just installing the disc, Stellar Blade is a perfect example. The Patches can fix bugs and so forth with a larger install that you download, but it's not a necessity that prevents you to run the actual game! Physical games is so important, it's a way to preserve history by having something tangible. With physical we can lend out our games to family and friends just like the old days, and not least we can resell them if we want. There are so many negative cases lately with digital, big companies can just remove games from their storefront, never to be seen again. That also includes digital games you have already "bought" into your library. By accepting digital releases, we are giving more power to greedy publishers who can control what we can play.

    Yeah same. I have a decently large Steam library but have become leery of it over the last few years, partly due to several dev shenanigans (Capcom suddenly adding in worse DRM etc), and partly due to things sometimes just failing to work over time due to gradual hardware and software changes... You don't really own anything digitally and so you don't have full control. Ultimately everything will slip through our fingers but as long as the discs haven't degraded (with a fully playable version on the actual disc) and you've a working console etc, then you at least have that control for the forseeable future, which for personal preservation (i.e for my own pleasure) is enough for me. I now own all my favourite games on various consoles too, and when possible buy new releases physically also. Still love my PC but I mainly use it as a VR machine now or to play games I historically already own.

    I'll only go digital if it means i actually own it like from GOG at least you got an offline installer of the complete game to go with, so if GOG goes down you still have the means to play it or it'll always be yours on a external SSD or HDD etc, somewhere down the line to replay to your hearts content.
    i'll keep collecting physical till i cant, tho its always good to have "backups" always within reach regardless.

    glad you have the physical discs made before 2022. cause since 2020 physical disc replicators have had to really downsize due to digital downloads, in which the cost of maufacture, packaging distribution is not needed compared to the physical disc. so thus the physical mft do not care about the disc quality anymore, discs scratched, warpped, like s potatoe crispy, faded reflection, read hang ups, a small tap on the controller makes it advance . so discs made before digital will hold up strong, anything recent probably will have headaces on return, wast time money etc

    About physical discs - problem is often, these are version 1.0 out-the-box and aren't updated. Who the heck wants to play version 1.0 of Cyberpunk 2077, for example? 2.0+ or bust on CP 2077. If PSN, XBL, Steam, Epic, etc go away - well, you're stuck w/ disc-version 1.0, if it ain't even DRM'ed to death or requiring certain services to boot/play offline; and especially if you ain't backed-up your game-folder in full somewhere else (like a portable HDD or SSD). What we need is physical re-released editions way later w/ everything on the disc and no more updates, since patches ain't made public anymore for anyone to grab from places like Fileshack, PC Gaming Wiki, etc. At least on PC when you buy games from GOG - you got offline file-installers and single-player stuff there works offline as it's DRM-FREE...and you can back this stuff up yourself on CD, DVD, BR, HDD, etc.

      C'mon guys. Many games, should I say, MOST of games, work just fine with 1.0. And, later there is from time to time updated discs with DLCs and version above 1.0, such as: Complete Editions, Game of the Year Editions, Ultimate Editions, and so on. I play only off-line, single-player games on disc, PS5, and works more than fine for me. I've been physical gamer like forever. Of course, there are exceptions such as Cyberpunk, The Witcher etc... But from my experience, from PS4 to PS5, disc games work more than fine.

    I'm at the PS4 level and I'm not going any further. There are no finished games on PS5/Xbox Series, even on disc, with all the patches. I will continue to buy games on disc for the PS4 and Switch. I'm not happy with the new games anyway. I'd rather go back and think about buying a PS3 instead of a PS5. Back to the days when games were still really good.

      Yes there are actually, there are many games on ps5 where you put your console in offline mode and you can play the full game without even connecting to the internet. I suggest you watch mystic Ryan’s video on this as he shows many games that do this.
