- So Fate the winx saga got cancelled and immediately after that we get news about an animated series reboot AND a massive live action adaptation being in the works with more than a 100 million dollar budget. What do we expect from it?

I love the "set" you chose for Andors because it actually looks a lot like the place where Aisha and her friend Anne would go dance together.
Personally I believe they can summarise the first two seasons in a movie each, but they must add the Charmix and first transformation separate, not one like they did with the specials. And yeah, what we love more in winx is the fashion and the color.
The only thing I NEED from this movie is to take advantage from its budget by making the Winx world come to live. I honestly don’t even care about the plot, I just want the fashion, and the technology, and the magic to become real and to work together the way they did in the original show. I want this huge budget to go into really capturing the essence of the show. I need it to just be like a movie created for the fans. For example I think the netflix show “Shadow and Bone” does that really nicely. It stays true to the source material by just respecting it. I feel like the producers and director should just realise how much the show means to so many people and treat it accordingly.
When it comes to "Shadow and Bone" the author of the books, Leigh Bardugo was on set (and even is in one scene in the first season) and she made sure it was good. I hope Winx's creator does the same.
And for goodness sake. . . it better take pride in the WRITING (the most important part of any story). Copying the superficial aspects of Harry Potter will not cut it. Harry Potter was good because it had foreshadowing, took itself seriously, let us grow with the characters, didn't have cheesy pop culture references. . . If the writing is actually not cheap, of course people would actually like it.

I'm scared. Imagine if they actually go with the Harry Potter aesthetic again like they did with Fate, ew. School for Good and Evil is literally the perfect choice of aesthetic for Alfea and Cloud Tower, like you pointed out, just make it a bit more futuristic.
Another thing that scares me is the cast. I don't want a white Musa, a white replacer for Flora or the possibility of a light-skinned Aisha. They MUST cast an East Asian girl, a Mestiza Latina girl and a dark-skinned black girl for Musa, Flora and Aisha *RESPECTIVELY*. Plus, they better respect the existence of my girl Tecna.

Musa actress in fate was mixed white, her other mix was asian, it was just the wrong ethnicity because she is from the middle east which is in asia and Shes only 1/4 singaporean which is south east asian- but no its not just being east asian- This time she needs to be specifically and strictly chinese so we can see the specific traditional culture in the character -
And I dont like how Flora needs to be a “mestiza” when she can be a full native Latina instead cuz they exist at least without having to be mixed with white.
They don't even need to have the best written story in my opinion, as long as it looks pretty in a way that's faithful to the original I'm all for it. And if they do take the season one rout, I really hope they go absolutely ham with Magix. Give us futurism, give us fantasy, I feel like they're so afraid of blending those two aesthetics together even though the media that does blend them together are always so interesting

Also I do hope they make a movie per season of cartoon, seems logical. As for aesthetics, I hope they make it girly retro-futuristic neon pop fantasy - bright and fun and overloaded with pinterest/tumblr vibes. "Do Revenge" is a really great example of how the school of fairies should look like, it's serious, girly and colorful; with a little bit of effort it could look like a magical world. For Cloud tower i think "The school for good and evil" shows how that school should be: tall, old, dark and scary, but still with a lot of history. I just hope that we don't get another Fate disaster with costumy clothes :(

I think the director will be key. And if they have a budget like that there should be zero excuses for high quality fashions. Hopefully they can collaborate with some fashion designers of some sort. But I have a lot of faith in this, because it is a movie and the creator is hopefully gonna have a big hand in it.

For the Specialists fashion, to avoid it being super basic as men's fashion can often be, I would draw inspo from Kpop boy groups. Especially their stage performance outfits. One of the idols wore this sexy tactical outfit where a tank top merged into a corset, or at least had the visible boning of a corset, and it was super cool.
(Also for hair colors and hairstyles bc they play around with that a lot).

Couldn't agree more. Live action is always treated as an evolution or next step for anything previously animated and it's such an elitist view to have. Live action actively limits anything with supernatural or science fiction elements, so I don't see why people are so hopeful about it when adaptations like Fate and The Last Airbender vastly outnumber projects like Alita Battle Angel.

The director is key. Honestly Brian Young was the wrong choice for a winx adaption. He did not care for the franchise and americanised and masculinized the heck out of Fate. He clearly cared more about Sky and the romances over the girls and their friendship. I just hate how he threw out everything innovation and all the visual aesthetics of Winx to paint a boring, plain fantasy show with barely any fantasy, or magical elements.
The director for this project would have to genuinely want to adapt the cartoon and use the source material to it's fullest potential. There are so many great ideas in the cartoon Fate straight up doesn't capitalise on. Also I'd prefer a director who knows how to run a female driven story and a fantasy show.

It should be an indie-esque/bockbuster mix(or just pull from the past of cinematography). I hope its fresh and the fashion MUST be ICONIC. Also, the transformations/action need to be high quality and not cringey low-budget sci-fi vibes. It should be BIG AND DRAMATIC(visually)
all i really want, my number one priority is WORLD BUILDING! and then fashion and colors.
But world building is #1. That was my maaajor problem with Fate. 0 magical world. I wasn't immersed at all. It felt like an everyday highschool drama with humans.
I need professors of different species, different magical lectures, different magical beings, 3 schools, Magix city. And Winx season 1 lore offers all of that on plate, they just need to adapt it to live action
i need them to understand that they are building a whole UNIVERSE, with DIFFERENT PLANETS AND DIFFERENT MAGIC WORLDS.. we need the sense of how big, magical and versatile that universe is.

I didn't watch Fate, but I saw a few reviews and the transformation(?) scenes. I think it was trying too hard to be trendy instead of trying to actually replicate the atmosphere of the animation.

I think by “it will be like Harry Potter and superhero movies”, he means the level of production, fights, effects and that it will appeal to a general audience rather than going only for teens/adults in their 20s who like Riverdale type shows like Fate or little kids like the Nick seasons. I think it would be super cool to see the early seasons in live action but I have a feeling they will do something new, I would be fine with either!

I agree they definitely need the ethereal, futuristic vibe and contrast it to the normal world in the beginning. The normal world needs a touch of the ethereal haziness to symbolise the other world is lurking and on the other side of coin in order to keep viewers engaged from the very beginning.
I’m putting on my conspiracy hat 😂 What if he was betting on Netflix messing up a live action so he could make his own and have everyone rush to watch it? I mean it’s unlikely but interesting to think about
something i’d love to see and i’m really missing in the og show is how their psychological aspects can be handled. it was definitely a big part of the og but it focused more on the actual fantasy story with battles/transformation eccetera. i read an article that came from a magazine from 2003 (so before the show aired) and it actually focused on those aspects and explained everything about them, for example the fact that stella is THAT obsessed with her figure to cover her insecurities caused by the little amount of love she received from her family, or how musa likes to be aggressive and masculine with her looks (and behavior in general) because of her mother passing out and the consequences of that situation. it’s a bunch of things that was handled really well in the show but could be handled even better for a family target. fate tried but failed miserably. really looking forward to the characters writing!!!

That's exactly what should happen! If they focus as much in the writing as much in The Production (the worlds, fashion, villains, practice effects...), these franchise will be everything. Even for the ones that aren't interested in winx, because the movie it self would be astonishing with a great story.

The movie “Paradise hills” aesthetic will fit really well with the new winx adaptation if theyre looking for some inspo, its very light, elegant and feminine, with some dark magic twist in the ending and scenery.
I really want them to avoid the americanisation of Winx, I think we need some whimsy from it, I agree like I want that beautiful Italian cinematography, I think it would really set Winx apart, we don't need it to follow the format of every other coming of age film, like with fate it was so similar to every 2010s mythicalthemed show like vampire diaries etc, I want its own flavour, completely different that is missing from live action media, its so perfect and there's so much potential to pull from it, I want to see them really utilise artists in this, from make u, hair, costume, sound, god there is just so much exciting potential I'm so scared they're going to fumble the bag again

It’s a big ambition, but all I want in a reboot is to make everything make sense of the original, and more original songs. And continued to make other shows in the Magic Dimension, a series, like I have ideas.
I think that for backgrounds, Winx have fantastic potencial, if they go in the more HP inspiration than Marvel for beauty. Bloom's girlish bedroom, the cozy, spa-futuristic look for common rooms, rococo inspirations castles, Russian architecture, DnD-esque gothic litterature-inspired backgrounds for Cloudtower.
Alfea could be inspired by Russian architecture (just, the rounded roofs and coniferous forests of the original could be pushed further).
The travel outfits of the original got to go, though. Also, some of the worldbuilding needs to be more decisive. Like, I think making it a hard and fast rule that Fairies need sunlight to feed their powers and that Sun fairies especially have an especially acute need for it as it is closely linked to their life-core, meaning that underground they would have a time limit. Also, their underground mission would have Tecna be a lot more active to give them directions on potential dangers. Because going cave-diving without any proper map of orientation when they have the fairy of technology on their side would be plain dumb. It would also allow them to collect information that could later be used for strategy.
As a Star wars and Winx Club fan, I really appreciated the naboo in regards to the set design! I really hope that they do not rely on tiktoky fashion, the money is there yk? I have high hopes for this one🤧

I feel that a live action movie has a lot of potential, and it can expand on the aesthetic of Winx Club and do something unique. They can also improve on some things that were considered either wasted or problematic like the whole Bloom/Sky/Diaspro conflict.
or stick with that messy situation and show that maybe sky is not that great ahahaha they have so much material already there, where they can do it without coming up with an entirely different story! and it would be different enough anyway bc things need to be changed a bit for the live action aspect that targets audiences 12+

I feel like I'm the only one who understands sky. He didn't love diaspro. The engagement happened without his consent. All the women saw his status and probably wanted to marry him (even Stella was intrigued when she thought Brandon was sky because she wanted to date THE prince) and so he thought the best way to find someone who truly loved him was to lie about his identity. Not the best choice, but I still understand why he did what he did.

It happens that I often have the same opinions a you, I'm glad you are one of the voices of the fans online. It's true that a lot of fans are interested in cinematography, fashion and/or art. There are tons of winx club ocs, because the world of this franchise is just so interesting and pleasant to come back to. The futurism in winx club world is very important to me so I hope they will keep it this time along with Tecna.
the futurism that works alongside magic and Lush vegetation is what makes winx sos unique. Same with fairies that are super feminine, but instead of nature/cottagecore their outfits are sparkly, futuristic metal mesh looks. it's so unique, and can be a staple in futuristic fantasy landscape.
ALSO! it's so clear that the fandom grew up to be so interested in art related things that putting effort into that movie would definitely pay off!
Well I didn't saw this coming either, I thought they would continue the madness. I hope he really commits to the "Winx" DNA in a new live action. i think that in order for this to work & the budget not get extremely blown they need to rely on practical effects as much as they possibly can. as you have mentioned before, these things can be done! people have made beautiful fairy wings out of wire and plastic for quite some time, you can scout really beautiful locations or build beautiful sets. they don't have to rely on visual effects for everything here, they can't. it's going to end like what we fear if they do: a bland marvel movie. it's just matter of working with the right artisans to build props & practical effects experts. i hope they hire a director who has the care to make it happen truly.
idk if plastic wings would work, but building massive sets or finding real life locations that fit the look would definitely go a long way, instead of relying on VFX for literally everything

I was so annoyed with people saying costume for the transformation in Fate wouldnt work because it would look silly. No, If they had done proper world building it couldve looked amazing. Winx is a show that could work really well visually as a live action. They just need the budget and creativity.

I’m not sure if you have seen, but if you could review the Winx gowns from Milan Fashion week it would be really cool to get your opinion on them. They were made by a fashion school in Milan and everyone is specifically designed to match each girl.
For a 100 million you could EASILY make a decent animated movie, that's "just" 50million short for Encanto at most
I just want respect for Techna. In the later seasons and the live action she has been so much of an after thought and it is heartbreaking. Watching her growing was one of my main reasons for becoming more engaged with others as a kid. It helped me open up more and even though I outgrew the show it still holds a place in my heart for helping me grow as a child in a way my family never did.

All I want is correct race-cast actors for this movie. And they beter use ALL 6 girls and ALL 6 specialists. If they want it to have a dark atmosphere, fine, but please make it interesting...Fate is a BAD example, Harry Potter is a better ref, so I look forward to seeing where this will go. what bothered me with fate was the casting. like completely white washing musa and flora when a big point of winx club is to show fans that anyone of any colour or culture etc can work together, solve problems and build amazing friendships between each other. the outfits in fate were..?? i'm not sure what they were going for but it wasn't winx. this is a show that a whole generation has grown up with and just messing with the original ideology of winx club was not a move. but yeah i really hope this works 🤞😭
Straffi also once stated that they had story material for more than 5 further seasons which obviously wasn't the case, so I'd take anything he says with a very large grain of salt. Not optimistic about this one. Live action adaptions are already notoriously bad and I don't see that changing with Straffi at the helm.
If Staffri hasn't changed his philosophy about how to approach adaptation, I would say to not be hopeful. It would be a good start though if he actually got people who were interested in respecting and learning about the source material,instead of tossing it to the first person he sees.
The obvious answer to the series to me would be, doing seasons 1-3 pretty faithfully. THEN instead of the restoring Domino Arc they’re training to become Guardian fairies of their realms. Bloom still thinking that Domino is lost wants to restore magic to Earth to maybe complete their Enchantix. BUT Instead of restoring the magic they release the Dark Circle. Story proceeds EXCEPT, Believeix is a power up instead of a full new transformation. That way Roxie becomes the 7th Winx In time for the restoration of Domino Arc. Which can either be delayed so that the other Winx gain guardianship before bloom in solo focused movies or we combine it all in one as I final send off to the series. The restoration of Domino part 1 &2
I wanna see Dark Bloom either a little side story or a flash/hint when Bloom gets angry while using her powers or something since she has that dragon-like temper. Dark Bloom is my favorite especially during the whole Shadow Phoenix Saga.
I wish they embrace the Y2K aesthetic the original show had without changing it's essence a lot this time.
When I watched Winx as a kid I was in awe with the settings, the outfits, the quirkiness of the characters... I just hope they create a world that has the spark that the og series had, unlike with the fate saga, which as an original fan bored me to death taking itself way too seriously :(
If I can recreate winx club-esque outfits on a 15€ budget they surely can create that with a 100.000.000$ production they fr have no excuses if it’s not gonna be good i know they don’t care

from a recent watch, i truly believe The School for Good and Evil (aesthetic wise) is the PERFECT example for how the Winx should be. YOU CAN'T TELL ME SOPHIE DID NOT SLAY EVERY OUTFIT SHE WORE. LIKE if they could do it for her, then the Trix would slay 100x more. JUST IMAGINE!! makes me excited just thinking about it haha.
also, sets for the school were just great! Imagine how Cloud Tower and Alfea can work with that!

I am choosing to be hopeful for this. Winx Club is a big part of my childhood and I think a lot of original fans can agree that we want them colors, that magical vibe, some brightness, oh my goodness some bright colours. That dark academia-ish aesthetic in Fate was a crime.✨❤
Honestly I just wish they give us the same vibe from the show. Meaning I want the beautiful fashion, same personalities, including all the specialists, and the same story(at least most of it should stay the same).
Also I know no one is not talking about this but for the live action soundtrack, it would be perfect if Elisa Rosseli came back to produce more winx songs for the movie. She is incredibly talented and it makes sense to include her in the production

All 6 girls that are the correct race and skin tone
A love interest for all the girls (preferably ogs but idm different ones)
The trix
A good amount of rivalry
A plot that makes sense

16:29 Kingdom of crooked mirrors (1963) is my childhood 😭 I just now realize how amazing this movie is with all the set designs. They definitely snapped with a soviet movie budget. SGI is a great invention but sometimes I feel like the industry relies on it too much. And God forbid that happens to Winx. And also, with Winx:saga they didn‘t care about fantasy feel, it was blant and ’not magical‘ even though the whole show was supposed to be centred around magic. so I agree..we need more glitz and glam!!
I’ve got a feeling this movie will never get produced, but I’m excited at the prospect of high budget, live action magical girl transformations. Marvel vfx crib from anime all the time, but it’s about time we got some Sailor Moon level stuff.

I sincerely hope that this movie is going to be a product of Italian culture as much as the original Winx club saga was. I absolutely despised how Netflix changed each character's personalities and turned them into Hollywood cliches instead (Stella being portrayed as a cheap copy of Regina George, Bloom hating her parents, Riven being an edgy bad boy, etc). And don't get me started on all this disingenuous approach to feminism and diversity Fate had, everyone could tell that they clearly couldn't care less about minorities and gender equality (otherwise they wouldn't have whitewashed a character and they wouldn't have depicted women constantly getting at each other's throats for no reason). Ironically enough, the original Winx club was way more inclusive than Fate (much like the OG Mulan film was more historically accurate than whatever nonsense Mulan 2020 was).
I'm looking forward to seeing some references to Greek/Roman mythology and to European folklore and architecture, just like in the original cartoon. It would be awesome to have Italian people working on this project, since they are known for their artistry and creativity! Fingers crossed 🤞!
As a Marvel fan, Marvel has its moments.
Sure the start of the MCU was boring-looking but that’s because there wasn’t much magic and still they had some amazing visuals at the start like scenes in GOTG and Asgard.
And now since they’re really leaning into magic there are stunning visuals, Loki is a great example. Terrible show, gorgeous bgs and settings.
I want you to be involved on this project hahhhaha The world might look a bit like the "brave new world" show with more rococo add on... I just want them to be fashionable!!
I'm kind of hoping for something styled similar to School of Good and Evil (like stated in the video) and Disney's Maleficent (there's probably a lot more I can name haha). There were so many pretty things to look at, whether dark or light, that would fit so well in a whimsical world like Winx.
