    Don't worry James, I enjoy watching your Reboot rants. Your videos are very smart, honest, and intelligent. It was your rant on the CGI Fireman Sam video that got me addicted to your channel!! Keep up the Reboot rants James. it often brightens up my day Whenever you upload a video where you review a horrible sequel/reboot.

    The reason Season 4 of Noddy's Toyland Adventures' animation being different from the previous 3 season was due to a year gap (Season 1- 3 1992-4 , Season 4 2000) and after that the animation team moved on to Oakie Doke (1995) it could of been possible that Season 4 could been done to fill in the episodes for The Noddy Shop (started in 1998) as that series has the average 60+ episode slot and some of the animators might of moved on at that point. and another interesting fact Paul K. Joyce wrote additional music for Season 4 that sounds slightly identical to the music he did in Bob The Builder as he was writing music for the series at the time.

    You make really, really good points. Kids may be easy to entertain, as Caddy said, but they still deserve shows with quality and effort put into, as well as charm that adults can enjoy along with them too.

I hope to have kids one day and I plan to make sure they don’t watch badly made, possibly mind-corrupting shows. They want to watch Peppa Pig? They might as well want to watch the Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon! I will make sure their exposure to Bob The Builder & Fireman Sam is restricted to the BBC seasons, and their exposure to Postman Pat is restricted to the pre-2000s seasons. I will also show them many hidden gems in animation, I wish to ensure their minds develop properly.     You know what, I think Jay Exci made a rather legitimate argument for why the statement of why liking something from a format or genre, that was mostly targeted at a younger audience, is "childish" is just deeply flawed;
    Abandoning something you liked since you were a child, from simply out of fear of coming off as immature or childish to everyone else isn't a sign of growing up. It's more often than not a sign of insecurity of one's self or simply a sign of pressure coming from people being conditioned in society to believe that it's the "sensible" thing to do.

    I liked seeing your thoughts on this classic series. Here's what I remember about each series you mentioned:
    I recall watching The Noddy Shop (which Toyland Adventures was a part of) it when I was younger. I rediscovered it last year after seeing a balloon with Noddy on it at a card store which sold balloons from the 90's. I remember the theme song, the episode where they sing about cleaning, some episode where the penguins played their instruments to start a song, an episode where they went to the North Pole, an episode where the kids play a fishing game and one about a race. And I now think Johnny Crawfish is my favorite character...
    About Make Way For Noddy, I haven't seen anything but the intro. NJN did air it when I was in elementary school, but I changed the channel to either Rugrats or Cyberchase (I can't remember) because they advertised the show as The Noddy Shop (using an up next promo for that show) and I was bummed that it wasn't what the promo said it was, and I once saw a bit of the intro when it was on NBC Kids a few years later (it came on after a show my dad was watching, and he had a tendency to change the channel whenever the Saturday morning blocks began).
    We didn't get the 2009 series here for whatever reason, but I've seen Toyland Detective on the guide on Sprout and recommended in every single possible category on Netflix, but never watched it.

  • @LePenguin
    @LePenguin Před 5 lety +14

    I removed the 2 other comments I made in favor of a better one:
    I totally agree that Pingu is a family show. I say it because some of the show has some rather mature themes compared to other kids shows, and plus, a good chunk of episodes, most notably Season 1 episodes, were pulled from TV for scary or violent content, or potty humor in Pingu's Lavatory Story's case.
    The most notable banned Pingu episode IMO is Pingu's Dream, aka the one with the Walrus that managed to become a mini meme. How that episode still aired in the US is completely beyond me! I assume it aired in the US without getting banned because American television networks (Cartoon Network and PBS Kids Sprout in Pingu's case) didn't mind it as bad, despite still getting scares out of children, and besides, when Courage the Cowardly Dog, a very well known scary kids show, premiered, Pingu was still relatively new to American television, as until Cartoon Network debuted it's anthology show Small World, which featured Pingu as well, Pingu was shown at the Paley Center for Media, I guess it aired on TV in the US because Trickfilmstudio and BBC wanted to get the show sold to other countries, especially since Pingu already proved rather popular in America and still is fairly well known here, it never reached it's success in the UK and Japan.

    You make a good point about kids not playing with the kinds of toys you see in Noddy, but tbh, no one ever gave a shit they weren’t exactly modern toys in each Noddy series before Toyland Detective, but when modernising Noddy, they didn’t need to get rid of all the remaining original characters such as Tessie Bear, Mr Plod, Sly and Gobbo.
    When modernising Noddy they didn’t need to completely change the designs to something that doesn’t resemble the original designs much, they could’ve also brought back older characters that had been removed in Make Way For Noddy and Noddy in Toyland, such as The Tubby Bears and Mr Sparks

    Please don't get discouraged. Keep doing what you do and thank you for considering the people who aren't from the U.K. with your reviews. I hate it when people can't comprehend that kids shows shouldn't get a free pass on quality because of who they aim towards. Yes some kids may not be as intelligent as others or need repetition to get the lessons but not EVERY show has to be that way. Looney Tunes were aimed at adults but nowadays people forget that. Why else would Bugs Bunny accidentally reveal he used to be in porn (he called it a stag film) in one episode. Anyway Noddy is a series I sort of remember, right there with Lamb Chop's play-along on PBS. I can understand modernizing that since like you said sadly most kids don't play with physical toys as much. RIP Toys R US. I see way too many parents just give kids their phones instead. I think Noddy would have to be a period piece or set in the 19th or 20th century to keep the style or at least most of the characters. A Christmas Carol still works and only a few works have tried to modernize it (I can only think of Scrooged with Bill Murray right now for some reason). Noddy hasn't been heavily ruined like the other works in my opinion. At least the updates try to keep most things intact. Thank you for your review and your hard work. Have a good day, sir from a girl in Texas.

Philip DeFranco does that a lot because he wants to get all viewpoints. Oh and one last thing for the video. If there's one thing that got ruined it was the goblins. They looked like Keebler elves in Noddy in Toyland.

    • @retrogamelover2012
      @retrogamelover2012 Před 5 lety +2

      You know, if the recent show was to do some call-backs to the older series, they could always do like say like a town filled of antique toys (with probably a name referring to that) and probably have it be like in a more far and secluded place in Toyland.
      Heck, if it was possible, due to Big Ears' supposed age, could always have him basically go on a bit of a trip down memory lane.
      Though, I don't really know enough about the show to see how much of that could be implemented, but it could always be interesting, like say, for a series special or something.

    • @retrogamelover2012
      @retrogamelover2012 Před 5 lety +2

      Plus, let's be honest, here. It'd probably lead to a few clashes of eras type stuff to work off of, especially if say... They decided to make the goblins like the town's most wanted criminals and they supposedly decided to go after Noddy, thinking that he might have something more interesting for them to steal or due to the fact that he's the newcomer, it'd be easy for them to mess with him, compared to the locals.

    Here's probably why they got rid of Mr. and Mrs. Tubby Bear: Master Tubby Bear was more well-behaved in MWFN. He was more mischievous in that series, while NTA...he was kinda of a little prick.
    Also, the pacing in MWFN (well for me anyways) works better when you put the speed at 1.25x (I even like the music better at that tempo). Plus, to me, I like how MWFN doesn't have Noddy's name in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. Like, "Noddy this" or "Noddy that."
    Another thing that I like about MWFN is that it gave more attention to the secondary characters, something I feel NTA was kinda lacking. We got to see more sides of characters like Master Tubby, Martha Monkey, Miss Pink Cat, Mr. Plod, Mr. Wobbly Man, hell even Sly and Gobbo.
    Yeah, the animation looks very PC-Game-ish, but at least they kept the original looks of the characters, barring Mr. Sparks, Miss Pink Cat, Dinah Doll, though they don't bother me personally.

      Some of those complaints you said could also apply to CGI Fireman Sam. I feel like the reason they got rid of Bella was because they were introducing the whole fish cafe and 2 cafes would of been too much. The reason why I think the location was changed to the sea was because they wanted to make more stories that involved other places like the sea. I feel like Dilys’ design was changed to make her look younger. Even though Series 5 of Fireman Sam is the best, I didn’t really like Dilys in Series 5. A lot of people complain about the changes in the CGI series but they don’t realize that Series 5 also has lots of changes too. The vehicle designs were changed in Series 5 but no one cared. But everyone cares about all that they changed in the CGI Series. Another thing that they did in CGI was add more characters. The main cast of the show was so small in Series 1-5 and I’m kind glad they introduced more characters in the CGI series. But still have to admit the CGI series does has its flaws. The animation isn’t the best and I hate how they made a Elvis a complete idiot.

I find it so sad to see that all these well known kid's shows have been turned from good 2D animation into trashy CGI animation. I will admit that CGI animation only goes well for certain shows, but for shows like Noddy, Fireman Sam and Bob the Builder, it completely ruins it. I think you have some valid points. I mean, I absolutely love these shows that I loved when I was younger, especially the Animals Of Farthing Wood. I agree with you, Reboots need to be judged. I wouldn't say all are horrible(I am desperately waiting for a Farthing Wood Reboot to happen). But certain ones, like Fireman Sam and Bob The Builder just suck, they changed some of the shows I liked. Teletubbies Reboot IMO, slightly creepy with the Tiddlytubbies but a good cast such as Jim Broadbent and David Walliams.

If Season 22-23 and 24-now did bring all these back in almost every single episode, I would have stopped watching before I would have seen what I am missing. But it wasn't the case because despite having good episodes from S13-16 (plus S12 since it counts as the Miller era) like "Happy Birthday, Sir" as an example, these five seasons were already cluttered with some of the worst episodes such as "Henry's Magic Box", "Percy's New Friends", "Saved You!", all five of the S12 Skarloey Railway episodes (including "Push Me, Pull You"), "Wonky Whistle", "Race to the Rescue", "Henry Gets it Wrong", "Pingy Pongy Pick Up", "Happy Hiro", "Percy the Snowman", "Bust My Buffers!" (because it's the TTTE equivalent of a Squidward Torture episode, except worse than any of the BAD Squidward torture scenario episodes), and "Sodor Surprise Day" as examples.
      I ask you, do we want episodes with this bad writing to happen to the series and characters ever again? And would writing like this make the Andrew Brenner era become a real laughing stock to most people? No.

  • @TV_Bau

    I think a problem with Noddy's CGI series has to do with the stories themselves. If Noddy, the book collection, became the huge success we all know, that's due to Enid Blyton, the writer, and her talent for creating a whole new world of captivating characters and adventures like nothing else before. Several of Noddy's Toyland Adventures episodes followed the stories from the books, while others remained faithful to the original idea if anything. The CGI show from the 90s had a completely different style of story telling, and felt like they were working on the animation while quickly coming up with new stories for Noddy at the same time.

    I was born in 1997 which mean Make Way version is the first Noddy I have ever known. But only until recently I just discover that there are older version such as Toyland Adventure. So, I became interested.
    On the story's pace. Yes, it was slow but what I was looking for was not of humorous moment but rather relax and carefree moment after I had finished my homework back then I think other cartoon are too quick and overexciting which mean it suits me. Just like some people who think that baseball is too slow still there are people watching it at the edge of the diamond.
    On graphic, Toytown looks like a city that I wish I could break into the TV and live there. It was peaceful (despise the goblins attempt to make it looks otherwise.) and like what you would expect from a small town in the middle of beautiful countryside. It was colourful but not in a surrealistically annoying way.
    Jail cell door are locked from the outside otherwise those goblins would breakout very easily. Maybe the front door key are on his table and not with him at the time as he might not think this would happen to him. But I agree that train does not work that way even overly computer-generated version of Thomas and Friends need to run on track.
    After I watch this video.I am going to find Toyland Adventure version to watch. Any advise before I do so.

And I didn't mind Susan Sheridan voicing Noddy. Also, I did like Make Way for Noddy, but I do respect your opinion. Also, you do make some points about the pacing, and also how Mr Plod had another door and the train couldn't go in a straight line. Also that Tubby Bear didn't have his parents, and Noddy was acting like a child. And I haven't seen the other shows besides those (well, I did see a bit of Say it with Noddy), but I can understand what you mean, about Noddy Toyland Detective, because it's a shame that children aren't into old toys these days. And you fo make an excellent point about how kids' shows should be, even though they're aimed at young audiences.

    I have to agree with every little thing that is said here. I do a series of rants in character with a character I created who is a supernatural version of a comedian who passed away in 1982 and this character rants about things like terrible fanfiction, remakes, bad sequels, video games, internet trolls, issues of society and the like. One rant I did as the character was about television shows specifically modern sitcoms and yet this one stupid person who thought that said character was real and that I was that character said that I shouldn't be waiting on shows that aren't for my demographic...and apparently that includes Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows. Uhhhh....just because those shows are for kids doesn't mean a thing to me, anyone can talk about those crappy DComs or Nickelodeon shows (just look at PieGuyRulz, he reviews Spongebob and Quintonreviews very much did an entire series of video analyzing Icarly and Sam and Cat and Victorius). I said that I found the use of fake laughter or 'laugh tracks' that were obviously recorded to be annoying. Yeeeeeeah, i'm sorry but it's not humorous at all, and if it was real comedy and NOT poorly written attempts at it...then maybe just maybe the canned laughter wouldn't be so much of a problem. Also...yeah, Disney Channel makes money off shows like Hannah Montana and those awful Jonas Brothers shows because we're AWARE they are greedy assholes and also because they have the habit of trying to make a music star out of their teen bop stars and yeah, we are AWARE that High School Musical is nothing but a cash cow.
    In addition to this, HSM practically IS a Grease knock-off so my way of describing the first movie as a blatant copy of the movie musical wasn't too far off, heck in interviews they even did say it was going to be 'Grease 3' and referred to it as such. And yeah, I am AWARE that there was a crap-ton of merchandise for the movie as a whole including the soundtracks for all three movies. My question is though...seriously, what kid actually enjoys that movie? And the same goes for Descendants too. And regarding how I explain that classic sitcoms have a live audience as opposed to recorded laugh tracks, it's true. And that's the difference between a show like Blackadder or Fawlty Towers and a show like Jonas, A Pair Of Kings, Suite Life On Deck and other shows of that name.
    And also about According To Jim...yeah, I am aware that the show got cancelled, but over here where i'm from (New Zealand) there are such a thing as re-runs (actually re-runs are common in all countries) and for the longest time According To Jim aired on TV 3. I'm sorry but...was THAT show ever popular? I consider Jim Belushi to be the lesser version of his late brother anyway, he's only truly good at anything when he's voice acting. I don't recall According To Jim having the same level of fandom and appreciation as any other sitcom, because it's a terrible series overall. And yet this person was stupid enough to call me out on this when all this time he was arguing with a character and not the actual me, yeah i'm aware most kids these days watch their tv shows online and play games...what? Does he think that I live in the early 80's or 90's or something? Well there was this other user who thought the computer I used was a Windows 95, so it's possible that both this guy and this other user are probably still stuck in the past mindset wise. Besides...I don't think you can even get a Windows 95 computer in this day and age. Also....for the record, the argument isn't even a valid one because said person not only was trolling (rather stupidly) but also that he was arguing with a character of mine that doesn't even exist. 'Yeah, spoiler alert...the character you have been arguing with isn't real and you are a delusional nutcase'.
    I support you and your videos, a lot and I hope you keep up the good work.
