I was about to say there was a need to preserve it, until I saw that the resolution of the original was 720p, and then I was like, "OK, yeah, it doesn't need to be kept up."
Also, imagine if in one of the future CGI seasons [if they ever do make more] Norman actually finally gets some real punishment for everything he's done wrong in PontyPandy [I will never get used to that name, no matter how many times I hear it, I can't help but chuckle].
Also, James A. Williams, did you know that before Fireman Sam was brought to American audiences successfully in the 2000's, there was an attempt to do it back in the late 80's when the series came out? I'm serious! American children's distribution company Family Home Entertainment [or F.H.E. for short] released a VHS in 1989 containing 3 episodes of Fireman Sam's first season on it, without reducing the soundtrack with American voices, and this release had the same title as the first UK VHS release of the show: "The Hero Next Door". However, I'm willing to bet that this attempt to bring Sam to the states was unsuccessful, because this ended up being F.H.E.'s ONLY Fireman Sam video. They didn't make any more Fireman Sam video tapes after this, and as with their attempt to bring Henry's Cat to America [after HBO redubbed Bob Godfrey's dialogue with Dom DeLuise, an actor known for a LOT of Don Bluth films], it didn't seem like it was a best seller for them the way their tapes of G.I.JOE, Transformers G1, Thundercats, Gumby, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were, among others. And I think that's really a shame, since I'm an American, FHE is one of my favorite home video companies, and Fireman Sam [Seasons 1-5] is one of my favorite British kid's shows, alongside Pingu, Thomas the Tank Engine, Postman Pat, Henry's Cat, Danger Mouse, Cosgrove Hall's The Wind in the Willows, Teletubbies, Kipper the Dog, Noddy's Toyland Adventures, Percy the Park Keeper, Bob the Builder, and many others I could list but won't because this comment is long enough as it is 😋

Norman in the original series is a normal, nice yet cheeky and mischievous boy. He has lots of redeemable qualities. He knows not to take it too far and obviously actually values human life. He is genuinely extremely sorry when he accidentally endangers or nearly kills someone. He's also helpful in a crisis. Heck, he's the reason why Trevor survived being poisoned by NOXIOUS GASES and why Sarah and James didn't DROWN. He's mischievous, not uncaring and selfish. He is realistic, actually likeable and definitely not evil like the Norman in the cgi series.

You know, what bugs me personally about Norman being the cause of so many problems is that it’s ultimately lazy writing. I mean, why make him the cause of the Great Fire of Pontypandy? Why not have it be caused by hot weather or some careless campers from Newtown?
What made the original series good was that it understood that accidents happen with EVERYONE, not just one person.
So you see, kids, when writing any series, don’t play the same beat over and over. Get creative. Mix it up. And you can’t go wrong.
    Cheerio now.

    • @jacobjcb8883
      @jacobjcb8883 Před rokem +23

The careless campers from Newtown is just what I was thinking
Maybe Norman could have had his own plot in the movie about him being sick of everyone thinking he's naughty all the time and him wanting to help out the townspeople to show he can be helpful but he keeps on messing up and him feeling like leaving Pontypandy to find use in Newtown and him finding himself relating to Elvis a lot who's always in Sam's shadow
Maybe the campers could be a group of teenagers with skateboards who Norman finds cool at first but they end up being a bad influence on him and Derek.
The 2 Prices would eventually pluck up the courage to call them out when they attempt to light a campfire in the dry woods and they could even attempt to stamp out the fire before the teenage campers tell Norman and Derek they're no fun and tell them to clear off while they enjoy their sausages without them.
Norman and Derek head back to the pioneers worried about the teenagers and their campfire and later on in the movie as Elvis and the pioneers evacuate the forest, someone could fall and injure themselves and Norman with the help of Derek, could help get them out of the forest.
During the scene after the rain's put out the forest fire, instead of Radar finding sausages in Norman's bag, it could be revealed that one of the teenagers left their bag in the forest during the fire and Norman and Derek picked it up
Station Officer Steele would question the cause of the fire and Norman and Derek would run up to him and tell him the whole story, they would then show him the bag as evidence, unzip it and pull out.....
A big plastic packet of sausages!
Steele says he will be having severe words with the teenagers and Sam and Dilys congratulates the 2 Prices on revealing the cause of the fire
At the end of the movie, Norman and Derek would not only receive their survival awards but also awards from the fire brigade for knowing the right thing, helping out in an injury and revealing the cause of the fire alongside Elvis and Both Elvis and Norman would feel like they both finally had their time.
The movie would end with the Pontypandy residents gathing in front of the fire station and a photographer taking a picture of them all and the picture frame would have the words "The end" on it

I watched your original review back in the day. It was actually how I found your channel. Let me just say that this is already so much better than the original! You’ve come an awfully long way in terms of editing and the overall quality of your videos. Seasons 1-4 were decent, season 5 is top tier. Season 6 onward is clearly a different continuity given that Pontypandy is now a seaside town and instead of being in the middle of Wales it’s now really disjointed from that.
Also there was a huge controversy with the Chinese animation studio that animated a piece of paper coincidentally resembling a page of the Quran that Elvis slipped on and stood on. So much so that HiT immediately made ended the contract with the studio.

And does have a heart somewhere by doing good things at times like saving Trevor from getting stuck in a junkyard with fumes of sodium hypochlorite floating around him.
The Virgin Norman (Seasons 6 and onwards) = Troublesome in a cruel, unfunny and unlikable manner by causing multiple emergencies, like deliberately. Such as locking someone up in the bathroom at the pool by using some super glue, or he and his so-called “cousin” prove to be firefighters by driving Jupiter when they weren’t supposed to because they don’t have a license. In "Floating Kart", where he tries to apologize for what he did, but then Sam comes to the conclusion that the apology is not good enough, so he forces him to do chores by making him help Mike Flood with fixing his truck.
In "Froggy Fantasy," where he gets punished for purposely locking James in the swimming pool changing room by getting kicked out of the club and being forced to do fire lessons with Penny.
In "The Big Chill", where he is forced to clean the sidewalk after setting fire to his mom's scarf.
In "Sky Lanterns", where he gets punished for releasing a sky lantern despite being told not to and causing a forest fire by not releasing a sky lantern with everyone else and gets more karma by Elvis accidentally putting sticky foam on him.
In "Lighthouse Lock Out", where he gets punished for getting everyone (including himself) locked out at the lighthouse balcony by cleaning Mike's van, and two of the fire station vehicles, Jupiter and Venus; inside and out.
In the movie "The Great Fire of Pontypandy" as punishment for nearly bringing the end of Pontypandy, he doesn't get his scout badge, despite not being a great punishment.

There was an episode where the fire service tried to set a goal to have a month without any fires because Norman was out at his aunt’s house. Some more examples are suggesting to get James’s plane down by climbing up logs: Norman, getting himself glued to his bedroom door and leaving a magnifying glass out in very hot heat: Norman, releasing his lantern on low air: Norman, just jealous of Mike’s rocket and building his own with no parachute and broke the Cut Price Supermarket’s window: flipping Norman, making Radar to be a sheep dog: DANG FLIPPING NORMAN.
And there are some times Norman didn’t cause the emergencies or weren’t involved (and I do mean in the CGI series):
While Norman stranded his mother out to see and then Charlie out to sea, Steele tried to get his kite down from the Flood’s roof and the ladder broke making him stuck. While Norman turned on the lights (when they weren’t ready yet) at the Cut Price Supermarket and started a fire there, the Twins did the same thing and caused The Wholefish Cafe on fire too. Not to mention a similar thing was caused by Dilys when the inflatable Santa was stuck on the bay. And some CGI episodes don’t even have Norman causing an emergency. Mike falling into the basement, Norman was with Mandy and Radar finding where Mike went. The oven on Mike and Helen’s anniversary, he was at his home and Mike was cooking during a blackout and placed paper napkins on the stove. Lion was out on the road and made Trevor so frightened because he was going to run over him that he turned and got his bus stuck in the mud. Trevor and Steele bickered that that the former’s bus took a wrong turn and fell into low tide. Sarah stranded herself and a lot of people to the lake in “The Pontypandyness Monster” and Sarah and Mandy bickered and caused a fire in “Cadet Catastrophe”. Norman had nothing to do with Mike and Lion trapped in the Wholefish Cafe’s flooded basement. He only did a cameo at the end. Norman even warned Trevor not to open his bus’s bonnet went it was overheating. He wasn't responsible for Sarah to Helen's ambulance car, he wasn't responsible for either Mike in "Mother's Helper" or his mom in "Off Duty Sam" to leave very hot iron on the ironing platform. Sure he overloaded the washing machine for the former and wanted Sarah to see something making her tie Nipper to Mike's ladder and Nipper saw Lion and chased him that caused the latter and Sam to come out and got stuck to the concrete but they weren't big as fires. Mike’s robotic guitar player in “The Break Up” malfunctioned and Norman had nothing to do with it. Sarah breaking her leg or Lion falling into the wishing well, Norman is absent.
Dilys did ground him for setting the alarm on purpose and lying that it was broken. And yes, Norman should’ve known well not to leave things out in hot heat since it happened on his birthday with leaving the magnifying glass out where the sun could go through it. But he only knew that he didn’t follow the instructions of the glue he was using and as a result, was stuck to the knob of his bedroom’s door.

If you ask me, Fireman Sam needs to be bought by someone who will treat the franchise better, give it a whole new reboot that mimics seasons 1-5 more closely and restore the charm those seasons gave us! Maybe Bluezoo could animate it? The choppy animation style they use for Pip and Posy, which they also used for Digby Dragon, would be a VERY good fit for it! (I’d also like to see them one day use their faster-paced Paddington animation style to make a Tintin movie!)

It seems that when HIT Entertainment’s four main shows made the transition to CGI, the writing for each of them suffered greatly. Thomas & Friends, Bob the Builder, Angelina Ballerina, and Fireman Sam were all subject to serious downgrades in their writing after they switched mediums. I know that may be debatable for Thomas fans, but admittedly the biggest problem with seasons 8-11 was the fact the writers were referencing an incredibly inaccurate show bible for their stories. The quality of the writing remained fine until seasons 12 and 13 where it became extremely formulaic, just like Fireman Sam’s writing.
There must’ve been an epidemic of laziness in the writing department at HIT because all of these shows became incredibly boring and repetitive.

Of course: practically _every_ show's switched to CGI because it's cheaper & easier, but in the process many companies (such as Mattel) don't bother making it look good (because they don't care about quality as long as they're turning a profit). Modern CGI can look _very_ good if done right (as proven by works like "The LEGO Movie"), most companies just don't bother trying to make it look as best as it possibly can.
Also no: Series 5 is Series 5, that's it. Just because it has 3 times as many episodes as the serieses before it doesn't mean it should be "measured" the same way.

I think you’re trying to compare Series 5 of Fireman Sam to Thomas Series 5-7. But the likely reason Fireman Sam stopped using stop motion animation after Series 5 is because the animation studio in Wales, Siriol Animations, went under new management by Lyons and was renamed to Calon in 2005. Thus, there’s no Series 6 in stop motion unfortunately.
Siriol was known for their work on their animated show Superted during the 1980’s. However, not many people know that it also provided some artwork and art concepts for theme park rides during the 90’s like Prof Burp’s Bubbleworks at Chessington and Toyland Tours at Alton Towers.

@@thecaledoniansleeper2648 I didn't say nothing about Thomas. I can tell solely from their excellent work on Fireman Sam Series 5 that at one time they were a great animation company, & maybe even still are.

I didn't like how all the Pontypandy citizens (and firefighters) are dumbed down to the point they can set the pool on fire when you're not looking. Some people: They clearly wouldn’t arrest an 8 year old child in a milkshake toddler’s show!
Milkshake toddler’s show: *shows 8 year old child cause an entire town to burn to the ground forcing everyone to evacuate*
Like you said, Pontypandy would be a much, *MUCH* safer place if Norman was kicked out or arrested.

10:59: That’s also probably why they hired more actors like John Hasler. But even Hasler probably doesn’t do a good job voicing a child in a Welsh accent. It sounds like James is whining but at least it’s not close to Norman. It's close to Sarah. A lot of characters in Horrid Henry have similar voices. Henry’s Dad and Beefy Bert for example. But that I think has a lot of actors.

Excellent update, James! Not too much of my opinion on CGI Fireman Sam has changed, at all, ever since the last time I checked on CGI Fireman Sam, as well as the first time I saw your original video. And I certainly agree, on everything you said about CGI Fireman Sam. I just really wish, that I knew sooner, when seeing the end of "Sticky Situation" years ago, then watching the whole of series 6-8 in 2016 (and I really had it, in the episode "Sky Lanterns", because of Norman releasing a floating lantern into the path of trees, out of impatience!). That humour isn't funny (not even that "crunch my lunch" joke), the designs are awful, the setting is changed for some unknown reason, the music isn't memorable (not even the rescue theme), the voice-acting for some of the characters is terrible, Bella was absent in the first few seasons of the CGI series, and Norman causes every emergency and doesn't learn from them! ...And even when the police are finally introduced, they hardly give him a lesson either, despite that they are there, to see the many emergencies he causes, from then on, like that flaming billboard almost setting an oil tank alight! 😡 I know that you say Norman should be kicked out of Pontypandy or sent to jail, and I entirely agree, though my friend Joseph has said, that he feels it shouldn't be right to send a kid to jail, because the law says, that anyone below 10, in years of age, shouldn't be sent to jail. But then, look at Cozy Glow, in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, wanting to conquer all of Equestria, thus acting all crazy! 😨 And Norman has nearly destroyed all of Pontypandy on multiple occasions!
This is why I shall never recommend the CGI series of Fireman Sam, and rather watch the original five series, as well as show it to future kids of my own. I mean, I have always loved the first four series as a kid, and the fifth series was a guilty pleasure. And children from all over the world should learn about those series, not the CGI series! But then again, it is my opinion, and I know there are some who like the CGI series, which I respect. But still, I would not ever show the CGI series to anyone, and would rather, that the original five series are watched than the CGI series. (If only the original five series had been sold, on DVD, in America.) So, without further ado, to everyone, who is interested in Fireman Sam, or at least is going to show it to their children, I highly recommend the first four series, the fifth series can have a go, and the CGI series should not be watched!

17:32 I know this was a line from the original video, but I need to correct it. Dily’s shop in the CGI Series looks like a Covenient Store, not a Supermarket. A Convenient Store is like a Supermarket, only smaller and lose a lot of the lies a Supermarket has. You can find Convenient Stores at many Gas Stations in the US, though there are some Convenient Stores that are separate from Gas Stations, like Bosco’s Inconvenience from Sam & Max.
