  • On todays episode we dig up this gem of a car. A one owner meticulously restored to original factory finish HJ GTS Monaro. As an apprentice John bought the car of his dreams. And it took most of his apprentice wages to afford it but John was more than happy to have his dream car. For the next 20 years or so he drove it around proudly but there came the day when she didn't go no more.
So, in to the shed it went for another 20 years until john was ready to do the resto. It took 5 years to restore the car the goal was to use all the original parts and to keep it factory. And John didn't disappoint. first was to have the body and paint done. It was finished in the original Persian Sands paint colour and it pops in the sun. the interior is done to the original trim code. Witch was a not common cloth insert that John sourced many years ago.
It pays to plan ahead because I doubt he would have gotten it these days. This was one of the factory options that John picked when he ordered the car. The other options were air-conditioning, honeycomb wheels, and a factory sunroof. Its running the original 308 V8 engine. However this is where a couple of mods have been done. He has had the heads ported and polished and fitted a new manifold carb and chrome air filter.
It's also had a distributor fitted and alloy rocker covers. John has kept all the factory parts he took off so it can be taken back to original easily. It has a 4 speed gearbox and 12 bolt diff. Overall this car is immaculate. And every detail is seen to. It cruises smoothly sounds great and looks stunning. John has done an amazing jog bringing this car back to original. Well done John and thanks for watching.

I'm with you 100% on that, but it may be that he is in a financial situation where he needs to sell it. Very sad, but hopefully whoever buys it, keeps it original and takes good care of it for the next buyer.
Me personally, I'd never sell. I'd keep till till the day I die. Then after I'm gone, my family can sell it then.

@@tonymontana897 John is working on another project at the moment and just does not drive this enough and when he takes it out always watching the car for people touching it and denting panels at car parks etc. He want someone else to enjoy it more now.

My HJ GTS looked different to that, no sunroof, no power steering, no spoilers, proper GTS rims,, ariel on the front, different seat trim, no rubber or "stops" on the bumpers, steering wheel had a GTS emblem in the centre, this looks like a kingswood with gts options. Not knocking it, would liked to have seen the compliance plate, see what code it had.

Mate…don’t sell it! You will regret it. I bought an original one owner HK GTS back in 1990….drove it around as a daily and sold it 4 years later thinking I would get something newer. I regret selling it more than anything.

@@AussieGarage Space was an issue. Not anymore, but can’t afford the cars!🤣 Imagine this, I knew this car since primary school in 78. Walked up to the Monaro guy’s house in 89. He told me to come back the following year, paid $3300 for a 1 owner car. It was only the 186s 4 speed but it easily beat my mates HG GTS 253 auto.😂 I’m actually a Skyline guy now, keeping the Bathurst dream alive…🤖
