- MUSICIAN Reacts To ASTERISM CHURCH Live Reaction & Analysis! Second time reacting to these guys, for my first time hearing them check this out: complete with twiddly tapping lesson & breakdown. but here we're looking at the song Church, exploring the extended range of the bass, guitar tone, that 80's vibe, various guitar techniques being used one of those superbly catchy lead melody solo hooks and a non-existent harmony that my brain wants to exist!

It is not only the performance that is noteworthy, but also the musical talent that she and they composed, arranged and assembled this song by themselves at the age of about 18 that deserves more recognition!
Totally agree!
This is from the Guernica+a album inspired by the Picasso painting and the corresponding events of the Spanish civil war. From what I've read the guitarist wrote most of the album before she was 15. Insane
That's very cool and seriously impressive!
Fantastic!. Church is an absolutely absorbing song, in my opinion one of Asterism's most complete works, delicately constructed and executed to perfection. I especially liked your mention of The Dark (angry) Side of the Moon and Joe Satriani. For those of us who are old enough, these references uniting past and present make us shed a tear... Thank you sir!!
Just realised I messed up there! It gave me the same vibe as the outro solo in Comfortably Numb, but Dark Side Of The Moon works well too! Loads of Satch songs make me think of 16-bit to 64-bit racing games, stuff like F-Zero X, Wipeout, Super Hang-on, great badass melody and a sort of determined, driving feeling, you know? This song did a similar thing for me in the heavier sections, but in a more modern way... if that makes any sort of sense, lol!
This isn´t just a song, it´s a mesmerizing experience.
Hearing it always takes me away to far away places.
Tonnes of vibe for sure
It almost reminds of something you would hear from Jeff Beck / Stanley Clarke.
Yeah, I get where you're coming from
One of the best songs in my general playlist. It never fails to captivate me. Like so many of Asterism's songs, this one in particular manages to pull me out of the restraints of my everyday life for a few minutes. 🔥🤘🏻

Aye, they've hit on something special here
🤘🏻⭐⭐⭐🤘🏻
Asterism are extremely good. On my bucket list to see for sure...
Would be great live!
Same them live at a show they did for FREE in NYC at SOB's. I can attest they are as good on stage as in the studio (maybe even better).
Great to see you get back to Asterism. My favourite bassist and one of my favourite guitarists in the same band. And I can't wait to hear what you think of Museum of Death because I love it.
On the guitar harmony you wanted to hear, I'm a big Maiden fan too so I empathise. This album mostly had a sparse aesthetic, though there were exceptions. The sparseness fit the theme (the album is called Guernica+a), I think especially for this song. More recently, they have gone for a fuller sound more often (and also added vocals).
The 80s effect you mentioned isn't in the studio or official live-in-studio versions - not as much anyway - and I think it's better without it. I don't know if maybe that could be in the recording as it seems to be on both the bass and the guitar?
Blew me away again, need to get in to more of their stuff for sure!
I just heard it in my head, total sucker for a harmony... What I've heard of them is somewhat stripped down, I don't want to say 'raw', but like not as studio polished/layer up as it could be. Like, there are effects that could make the guitar sound more, I don't even know what the word is, 'pristine' maybe? Some of the speed picking lines feel like they've got that semi- improvised vibe to them as well, more of a visceral vibe. Which might be why folk like them, it's not that overly produced stuff we tend to get a lot of?
Interesting, I'll have to give it a closer listen. It' not uncommon to put some chorus on a live clean sound, so that is sounds a bit fuller, could be that?
Dawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You gotta do the "Museum of Death" song you started at the end lol
Should be in the pipeline!
Try their Live In Studio session version of this song ( czcams.com/video/pkiKSBX8JPA/video.htmlsi=hnqbEWQcgBywz3DR ) for a crystal clear and close-up view of all the bass, drum and guitar work - and HQ audio too! On the angry DSOTM vibe...Roger Waters is releasing his adjusted version of that classic album in October and, based on what I've heard from it so far (Money and Time), he's still as angry as he's been since the 80's!
Nice one, will give that a whirl! Cool, will need to keep an eye out for that as well!
@@JbfMusicGuitar watched it again and realised she does a nut whack around the 4 minute mark!
Great reaction, as usual, Jack. Thanks for the shoutout. I just hit your tip jar, and tag, you're it over on p atreon
Awesome thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it my dude, great song, looking forward to getting in to more of their stuff!
