At first glance Miyu's 7 string bass might seem excessive. Then you watch him play and he uses all of it. His ability to do a bass part and a rhythm guitar part at the same time is just mind blowing. He can do it on a 4 string bass, their cover of Van Halen's Jump is proof of this, but he has more options with a 7 string bass.

I want Yuko Suzuhana to sing for Asterism. They would be a Japanese version of AGHORA.
If you haven't heard Aghora, check them out: czcams.com/video/blMBVkp9uiQ/video.html

These two videos are from a session where Asterism performed six of the *Guernica+a* songs live in studio. The other four are _Stars, Then & Now, Faced/Burned,_ and _Day26._ All amazing prog metal songs.
Now you've heard 2 songs from *Guernica+a* _(Church_ and _Gunfire)_ and 3 songs from the previous album *Ignition* _(Dawn, Blaze,_ and _Light in the Darkness)._ But there's so much more to discover. I would recommend going back to the beginning, to see how it all started. The earliest recording you'll find on their CZcams page is from 2014, and it's a live in studio performance of their first song, _155,_ which is crazy good considering that Haruka wrote the damned thing at age 11:
    czcams.com/video/2gBCmUWqtJU/video.html
Their second song was _Rising Moon,_ first performed when Haruka was 12, but eventually got an official music video when she had just turned 15:

Both of these songs are off their EP Guernica which later got expanded into an album called Guenica+A. They were inspired by the famous Picasso painting "Guernica". One of the best prog metal albums ever.

You are not the first reactor left mesmerised and lost for words with these live-in-studio sessions of Guernica. I really dig the more raw sound of these compared to the album. Church in particular is just perfect. They have been one of my favourite bands for a few months now. "Asterism", from astronomy: a prominent group of stars. A most appropriate name for this talented trio. And they are still so young....

One of your colleagues here on YT called Hal-Ca the Archangel of Metal in one of his first videos. With her playing she catches you, spreads her wings and takes you on a journey far out of our solar system. I like this metaphor of him very much, but I would like to add that this is true for all three members of this band. Outstanding what these 3 young musicians are capable of and create with it. 🤘🏻✨

I mean, everyone who has heard them at least once knows how otherworldly good they are, that they are some of the best musicians you'll ever see. But "Church" is still on a whole other level for me. A work of art, that truly deserves the term masterpiece. A word given away so freely nowadays. I always drift away to a whole other world listening to it...
    Thanks for watching them 🤘🏻🙂

I my opinion HaL-Ca is the fastest female shredder in Japan . Bucket Head was so impressed with her that he played a couple of songs on their Album . Some people call her Steve Vai 's Granddaughter .

This is how rock used to exist in this world in the 70s and 80s.
This is great playing and song structure that evokes those memories.
"Amuse" only released their second album, the masterpiece "Guernica", which includes this song, as an indie CD, and let them make a cover album of anime songs, treating them only as a support band backing the "MetalVerse".
It hardly seems like an act of fair recognition of their talent.
They are incredibly underrated in Japan now.

I've been listening to asterism for a years now and as much credit and adulation Haruka gets, well deserving without a doubt, I find I cant get enough of Miyu. He is a baddest on that bass, smoothest of operators.

    Cheezy Mate!
Greetings on a rare warm winter day when we can see Mount Fuji in all its beauty!
They were respectively 19, 21 and 22 of age at the time. Haruka had already changed her hairstyle along with her two companions.
Church is a title with a little background. The great majority of Japanese Christians (there are not many all in all) reside in the island of Kyushu which includes their Prefecture, Fukuoka. Haruka wears a crucifix, which is not as usual as you might surmise in Japan.
In Gunfire they use a 5-string bass, which seems to be the norm in Japan these days with rock and metal bands.
As for lyrics they have started adding singing to their gigs, especially in the company of Pellek with his deep voice who towers over tiny Haruka with her very light voice in a somewhat endearing sight and sound to behold!
They have only started, and to think that Band Maid for all heir young looks are 10 years older! I just can't imagine what's in store for us!
Apart of a few covers, they compose all their music! Talking of covers you must (sorry for patronizing!) react on their rendition of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Scuttle Buttin'!
They are my second band overall and first in metal. My third one is Sokoninaru, another band almost impossible to classify with another super talented female bassist!
    Best regards,
    Robert-Gilles

So not being much of a musician myself someone needs to explain that first Bass to me LOL...Is that like a cross between a Bass and a normal guitar ??? Either way Old mate knows how to rock it !!

    • @KirkDickinson
      @KirkDickinson Před 4 měsíci +1

no, just an extended range bass. Most bases typically only have four strings tuned E, A, D, G. Five string bases add a low B below the E string. Six string bases typically add a high C above the G string. Not sure how he tunes, but typically a seven string bass would be tuned B, E, A, D, G, C, F.
His highest strings are pretty much in guitar range where his DGCF are tuned a whole step down from EADG on a normal guitar.
