    Moved to Calgary from Vancouver a few years ago. Absolutely love Calgary it is so much better than the 20 years we've lived in Vancouver in so many ways! So happy we moved to Calgary going into year 3 now ❤

    I live in Calgary and am about to get married. I love spreadsheets and wrote up a budget for when we live together. If we rent a place for $1200-1400 a month our total annual costs/expenses will be around $60,000. This includes groceries, going out, 2 cars, phone/netflix, and 10% tithing (we are also young so car insurance is about $250 a month, never even got into accidents). I'm sure if we were in a real pinch we could live very comfortably on $50,000 a year. Luckily we have good jobs and can save a lot for investments and a down-payment.

    That's literally the best and most informative video about Calgary I've seen! Very useful one! The prices for groceries are the same or even lower, than here, in Ukraine! How do we even survive here?! 😮

    A nice update of my favourite city, thank you for taking the time. I have been away for a while, prices have really shot up, as they are every where. it must be really tough for people at the low end of the totem pole, difficult even just to think about it, let alone living it. I suppose we have to take care of each other through the food bank etc....

    Really helpful video. Can you say anything about life for vegetarians? Seems like there was lots of fresh produce in your video. Are plant-based milk products common in Calgary? Do you have meat-substitutes like Quorn? Or, is that difficult to get imported? And what about electric vehicles? Is there a sufficient infrastructure for people driving around their city? Or, their province?

    • @ryangillardrealtor
      @ryangillardrealtor  Před rokem

      I see a lot of Tesla vehicles driving around the city so I'm assuming there is adequate infrastructure for electric vehicles. I'm personally not a vegetarian but I do see a lot of vegetarian options at restaurants and grocery stores. Same with plant based milk options.

    • @ryangillardrealtor
      @ryangillardrealtor  Před rokem

      I would say the best area depends on how new or old of a property you're ok with.Deep NE is all brand new but quite far from the city center.

      Redstone, Savanna, Skyview in NE. All brand new good price point. We just moved in this area over year ago. Still alot of new build to choose from and counting!

    Should do an edit on your video and be honest about the massively higher prices of electricity now (128% increase in July 2023) and that auto insurance is 30-50% higher in Alberta than British Columbia or NS.

    • @ryangillardrealtor
      @ryangillardrealtor  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes I'll probably have to make a new video for 2024 as the costs have gone up.

    Are there any bidding wars going on ? Just wondering as the people coming from Ontario (my hubby and I could be those people soon maybe) we are selling for ridiculous amounts. We are in Milton ON and know we can list for $1.5 (totally renovated 5 bed house). We would be downsizing as we are empty nesters, so we would basically be coming in with no mortgage approval as we would have no mortgage obviously. So I’m guessing many others from Ontario would be in the same situation. Your take on this ?

    • @ryangillardrealtor
      @ryangillardrealtor  Před rokem

      I just lost out on a deal that was listed at $600k, we offered $625, and it sold for $630. There's not much inventory so there are some bidding wars but maybe not quite as crazy as last year. 100% there are loads of people coming from Ontario and BC to Alberta right now. It has been quite noticeable during the past 2 years. When you're ready to start looking please let me know!

    • @linchen1144
      @linchen1144 Před rokem

      bidding wars everywhere for houses with reasonable prices and nice condition, just saw a house in Evergreen sold within 2 days, with listing price of 628k and sold as 710k, so, to buy an ideal property, prepare the money, give unconditional offer and take action as fast as you can...

    • @azavy
      @azavy Před 10 měsíci

      Calgary's a big place, I'm sure you'll be able to find something within your price point. We personally didn't run into the issue of competition and bidding war within the past year, but maybe it depends on timing and location. Lots to choose from right now as we speak. Prices still better than in BC and Ontario (I used to live in both provinces). Happy house hunting!

  • @stephenfermoyle4578

    Dude it's the same everywhere.The country is to expensive!! Calgary offers outdoor activities as simple as going for a walk in beautiful settings. And no HST people complain about lack of ''nightlife'' honestly? just look at all the money you are saving!! and that gets tired real quick.
    and if you spend more time outdoors..the life will be healthier. Bigger cities you will of course spend WAY more money.
    WHY do you just ask someone who has moved here from out of province ? its a better life style in west and the pace is better

    • @ryangillardrealtor
      @ryangillardrealtor  Před rokem

      I'd say around 4.5 - 5% right now. It depends on many different factors like income, debt, credit score etc. I'd say that's a pretty normal rate though.
