Yep, that’s a great idea! 💡 It seems like everyone is always wanting me to do something for free. Bartering will be my new way from now on…. I’ll have to send you 10% of the profits… lol
Love it!! My dad use to barter his service when I was a child. I thought it was the coolest thing ever 🤣 hence the reason your video caught my attention 💯 well done brother 👏👏
Great episode, Austin! My few cents: when I shot my latest fiction short I dealt with location (pole dance gym) for a barter - I shoot for them promo video, they give me location for 3 shooting days of my movie :)
@@conorkcarroll give it a try! If you send out a bunch of messages, I bet you’ll hear back from a couple of them. My partner and I have had some really fun and unique weekend adventures with these. Thanks for the sub!
So glad I found your channel. I’m curious, if you don’t have the “credits” like you have (HBO, Nat Geo, etc), how to you build trust with a business? I.e. the Air BnB example. How can they trust that you’re not going to take the free experience and run, so to speak? I want to travel to the Amazon and there are plenty of ecolodges down there, but how can I convince a lodge in remote Bolivia that a guy from Minnesota will stay true to his word? I mean, I will, but they don’t know that. Thoughts?
Great question! Honestly, I think that a solid portfolio and similar work samples speaks louder than impressive credits for most people you are likely to barter with. Like me doing a story about farmed animals for NatGeo doesn't mean a ton about my ability to film effectively a real estate video. The first AirBnb barter I did was at a friend's property. Then, I used that video to barter for my next one with people who I didn't know. If you can show a similar end product to what you're offering, I think that will take you a long way... So in this instance, I'd find something similar to an ecolodge in Minnesota that you can make a short proof of concept piece with. Then I'd reach out to the ecolodges in the Amazon with that specific video saying something like, "I can make you a video like this..." Does that make sense?
