    Kpop fans have been begging for a group to do a quirky and unserious song for a long time now, since we don't really see it anymore, and (g)idle delivered. They made a fun, quirky song with actually meaningful lyrics behind them, but to the point that it is still fun to listen to. I think the thing that is the most appealing about (g)idle is that they like to break the boundaries and tell powerful messages, and do it their own way. Queendom and Nxde are songs that are so focused on empowerment in a way that we pretty much never see in kpop with amazing concepts around them, and now they bring back the quirky sound that has been abandoned by the last 2 generations to still send a powerful message.

      YES. I love that they keep giving us songs with such powerful messages... wrapped up in such fun, silly, danceable music! haha. They are such queens. And this quirky, unserious sound is actually so much fun. Definitely want more of this! (The world is too heavy. We need this kind of light!)

    A lot of people don't understand the concept, and even this is NOT the title track.
    the song is about how a wife is in the society, if you see, in the video they don't say the words, just in the final, when they say that they don't want to be this type of wife, that the society bring all these years, cleaning rooms, making dinner, being perfect...like, this is the message.
    in the mv, they bring this fun concept that brings an funny way to see the music, that is unserious but serious too. Like the music, who is the same way of feeling.
    in the korea forums, lot of the netizens are with mixed opinions about the song and the lyrics, a lot of them are saying that (g)idle didn't need to make this concept, but i desagree with this. They need to congrats that (g)idle are bringing back the old kpop, with unserious concepts and music, who had a lot of deep meanings for the society, like wife!
    soyeon had a great time thinking about this, imagine how is going to be the comeback! i recommend to you watch the trailer for the album!

      Interesting, I also watch and read many interesting things about it.
      It’s like they say:
      You wanna be your wife but can you handle ? Would you make her do basic things and what? Like anyone else ? Then we’re in love ? That’s why Make you feel like a mirage, a lie, because women are individuals persons even they have many shall in commun it still be specific like to each every songle human being and many lifesituations…
      Mariage is a huge engagement : you used to pick it up in minimaliste view…
      This how you consider your “ futur ” wife ?
      If you’re choosing only about beauty and skills, you might choose someone higher level than yours…
      In a simple way it’s just talking about love without talking about love - and probably other things too, for sure.

    Thing about I-dle’s lyrics is that the Korean parts really don’t translate well to english. I think anyone who’s bilingual will agree with me. Some songs have so much substance in the language they were written in, but once you try to translate it, it sounds off, or less interesting. I’ve had the experience of talking to Korean people who like I-dle’s music, and they say Soyeon’s lyrics in Korean are full of word plays that seem impossible to translate. This song specifically made it to Korean TV today because of the “controversial” slang in it, like 따먹다 (slang to ‘have sex’) and many others.
    About the colors in the video: they are direct opposites of the schedule poster which is a type of Red and Black. A fan noticed that if you put the negative effect in the poster it gives you Aqua color and white! So I guess this song is the opposite of everything else in the album.
    I like the song too! I think it’s fun and light, but with an underlying seriousness to it
    (edited this comment to add info)

    • @KPopwithKhadija
      @KPopwithKhadija  Před 7 měsíci +8

      Yeah, this makes sense to me! I think a lot of her really creative songwriting wouldn't translate cuz wordplay and wit just... don't really hit the same in different languages haha. That's SO INTERESTING about the colours, though. I didn't even think of that! Hmmm, now I'm even more curious to hear the rest of the album!!

    Miyeon's part where she wasn't lipsyncing and just serving face reminds me of a commercial lmfao. Not related to this, but someone also pointed out a lyric that goes "want me your wife but she is" sounds like "want me to wipe your sh*t" like what moms/wife do to their baby.

    • @KPopwithKhadija
      @KPopwithKhadija  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hahaha, yes, a commercial! That's so true!!! And yesssss - I watched Sebastine's reaction and he had to rewind that part and was like, "Woah, I thought she said wipe your shit"... but now I can't stop hearing it and that lyric is so much better. Like the English doesn't make sense, but they very intentionally pronounce it the way you would in Korean so it sounds more like "wipe" than "wife" and that is amazing and brilliant! You want me to wipe you shee-iiiittttttt? Mm mm mm!

  • @TheBearAspirin
    @TheBearAspirin Před 7 měsíci +1

    From what limitations I have on the lyrics, it's almost dissing the stereotype of what makes a "perfect wife". They're humble bragging about the superficial shizz they can do that would historically be the feminine role and they can do it better than anyone else. They're saying that yeah, they can do all of it but that doesn't define them.
    They keep hyping themselves up until...they basically say "yeah, you want me for your wife but that's not necessarily the role I want." The implication is also that we're viewing them as the perfect "girls" but the part where the lyrics switch to "I don't want to be a wife" is throwing the gauntlet down: this is what I can provide but what do YOU bring to me? The bounce and almost over the top cutesiness makes the song actually quite subversive IMO.

      @KPopwithKhadija  Před 7 měsíci

      YES, I think you nailed it! Like, they can do all these things but "mm mm mm" actually they don't wanna be a wife! And the visuals are all just perfect and cute to put it directly in your face. I love it the more I think about it!!! (Always the case with I-DLE!!!)

    I think the lyrics are purposefully a little childish/silly ( twinkle twinkle to describe being clean etc ) as like a nod to how men ( ESP Korean men ) like women to be very innocent & childlike and maybe a little dumb lol The whole song is a dissertation of the female struggle & stereotypes ( cooking, cleaning & smex objects...i.e the innuendos in the lyrics ) & why thats leading to more women these days choosing not to get married/stay completely single ( the i dont wanna wife part at the end )...all set to a 2 minute bop lol Soyeon is a genius.
