- Skip to 1:30 to watch it run. This is a schwinn stingray bicycle fabricated to hold a 6.5hp 196cc harbor freight engine. The engine is great and you cant beat it with $100. It normally reaches 50mph but I have topped out at 55mph by leaning forward.
-schwinn stingray
-hf 6.5hp greyhound engine
-engine mount plate w/ support bars welded to frame
-motorized bicycle gas tank (ebay)
-72t #35 sprocket 1-3/8" hole fit perfectly on hub (welded)
-12t max torque clutch
-walmart wireless bike speedometer
-B and s muffler
-custom header from gas pipe
-chain tensioner (fabricated) - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Nice build. If you still have the bike remove the friction clutch and install a comet torque converter kit. You will have all the take off torque you'll ever need and rapid acceleration. Besides the price tag (180.00 bucks) nothing but gains with the conversion. They also had a disc brake kit for this bike, but don't know how well it worked.
Really Cool. I am going to do this mod. to my Schwinn Corvette. Keep On! From Sioux City,Ia.
I think you did a nice job building it bro , the front fork need some springning though . I've heard finding a sprung fork for those bikes is problematic so you may need to make one. The easiest that still uses the original fron end vvould be to vveld a leaf spring from an old trailer , the vvay Indian Motorcycles used to build them so you can find pics just by googleing it. Still a nice job & probably alot of fun , especially vv/the seat being so lovv compared to any other bike . Keep up the good vvork .
gotta love those scratchy sounding centrifical clutch
That sounds wonderful. Lovely piece of diy engineering
@MrCherubhair1 Well, if it hasn't happened by now it probably won't. I was mainly concerned about the rib brakes not being designed for that kind of speed, but if it works, it works. I was also thinking of what might happen to the frame's structural integrity. I'm happy to hear I was wrong.
love your bike dude!
I have had good results using the twist-type shifters off of mountain bikes for throttles by taking the 'clicker' detent spring out of them and putting them on the right handlebar. They are only about 1 and 1/2"long, but you can pull the rubber short grip off ,they will accept a 1" grip forced up on them, making them the length of a motorcycle 's throttle.
i was out and about on my old kit a few monthes ago and got tired of constantly having to fix the darn stock throttle handle thingy. ended up just routing it to a brake lever and found it a lot better.
I like the method of removing the hot muffler.
HOLY SHIT 196cc DAMN FRIGGIN BIG MOTOR!
exhaust matters as much as intake on anything, and being so restrictive; yes, it does absolutely matter. not to mention poor flow can result in overheating and the issues that come along with that.
Awesome bike dude.
That dude is pretty fast, like the bars too
Nice build
love it mate brilliant
nice work
In California it has to still be able to be pedaled by foot to still be considered a bicycle. If you can turn the pedals you can take it in the bike lanes and don't have to register it.
Beautiful machine :)
You should have put a pluming elbow steel fitting on the exit part on your engine so the exhaust can shoot out much easier. you lose power the way you have it now. or go to home depot and get some electrical tubing and just use the pipe bender they have there and just bend the pipe so you don't have the trouble of spending almost 80 bucks on one when you can just do one simple bend there. or just spend 15 to 20 dollars on a big size pipe bender at a swap meet. That will work
that is so awesome, I want one.
thats sick man
Nicely done !! Paul Jr. would approve
your lawn is beautiful
Cool Dude!!!
thats actually cool
I like it !
Nice idea with the chain tensioner been had mine 4three years I got 212 CC on mine and they fly but after a while the chain started falling off I'm going to try this...thanks
Also, get a sweeping bend for the exhaust. Tight 90 restricts flow.
nice man.
i like your foot pegs!
@Microillusions
im definately using a jackshaft next time. you are right it accelerates kinda slow.
nice ride, I made one also,, there fun as hell
Those are great engines. I still can't believe how cheap they are; even with the 2 year warranty.
Sounds good too :O)
Awesome :D!
You could get a little more top end with lower revs with a smaller rear sprocket. that thing is huge. its a four stroke, it has the torque!
Of course it´s in the beggining yet,and have a good amount of work for do,but you´re in the right way.Good work made until here.
good job !! suggest you use a length of stainless steel flex pipe for the exhaust to avoid the sharp 90 degree bend which is extremely restrictive at engine speeds above idle.
Sounds sweet ;)
I like it!!!!!
i used to have one and i would have one hand on the brake and one on the govenor on the engine so i would rip the engine and the tires would scream but that was on a 12hp mini bike
lot of fun :)
put a straight pipe like mine on it.you will be happy. use dolly handles for the bend down and right hand bend straight out the back. it will create much needed back pressure and the coolest sound. no muffler needed and quite.
I like how it "technically" has pedals LOL!!!
very nice job...only thing i would add is a drive chain guard....cause its pretty close to your leg there
It's cool and I really can't do anything like that myself
is that a 60 teeth sprocket at the back and 12 teeth on the clutch? nice bike
awhile back i used a 16" version of the same bike with a 49cc 2 stroker slow to go, but hit close to 50. scary ride tho!
@pete9619 i been using hydraulic caliper and disc on everything i build... i aslo have a comet that was on my go kart. man, that thing was nice
You should cover the clutch bell, (make a custom aluminium cover) and it will stop the screeching noise
actually i just bought the tank off of ebay and the chain is very strong. no problems there. you are right about the brakes though.
I WANT IT!
@MTJLT nice V-Brakes aren't bad if set up properly, unless he's going to race with that thing he'll be fine.
nice end of road sign
i have a suggestion for you. put a the AIXRO XR50 rotary engine
maybe u should consider a B & S tuning exhaust pipe, makes these engines sound so much better.
nice
yeah good man good
damn that clutch is loud
totally dude, i agree
i will totally buy that from u
Nice lawn
I remember when my gx200 would idle that smooth. Now it throbs like a harley lol.
nice bike! can u tell me whats you clutch, your chain and your sprokect pls?
actually you can register some things in different states but it has to go a certain speed i believe
COOL...
ЛАЙК.
@TheStealther yes it will! you will need a brake light, head light, turn signals, speedometer, and a license plate holder then you can get it registered and get a license plate and of course a motorcycle license and then boom street legal!!! dont forget to put on your new tags every year!!!
@jcadlols What is the diameter of the exhaust exit? You might be able to find a bent pipe fitting or something if you don't have anything to bend it with. :)
how did you attach that back sprocket, can you please send me a link of what that one is, or the name?
You might get a bit more out of it if you can use a bent piece of pipe for the header. But great work, it's awesome. Haha :)
Nice bike, how many mpg do you think it gets?
dude. If you did put a brake light, normal lights and maybe indicators (and license plate holder) would it become streetlegal?
That exhaust pipe is a fluid flow nightmare.. put a radius in there and you will increase your top-end
Yo dude can you send me the exact link where you got the sproket because I'm building a chopper problem is I already order 72 tooth sproket but it was way to big. It doesn't fit on hub, so If you could should me link or website where you got it. I would really appreciate man.
I guess this video is what inspired everyone hahaha
@loh1110 because of the gearing, it probably takes a while for the revs to wind up into the power band. I was on a pocket bike with the same problem - claimed top speed of 40 mph but boy was it slower than a granny on a bicycle of the line. The revs gradually built and at 20mph I ran out of car park. Lift the back wheel and the engine would rev to BAAAAAMMMM BAAAMM!!
Cool!! That engine looks a little too close to your leg though, but very good job on the custom fabrication.
that what i want to do. can you give me tips
were did you get the torque clutch and chain tensioner
ive got a predator engine and it looks just like this except its black anyways i did a custom throttle fix because the the one it originally has on there dosnt allow for full throttle only about 25%
sure lets take it to the motocross track
i thought its your 6th prototype for the 5hp version of your motorbike!
i'm going to buy that engine for my project stingray. Where did you get the clutch?
Did he have to extend the frame for the engine?
my friend has a OCC custom designed chopper bicycle
Can it achieve more speed with a smaller diameter cog on wheel and a CVT ?
NICE! I'd pull off that 4 stroker and toss on a YZ 80 5 speed and that thing would go 70MPH with the front wheel in the air when it got up into the power band RPM range! lol
maybe that's not what he wanted?
what did you use to mount the engine im doin a simliar project with same engine please respond it will hepp a million******
me and my dad are building the exact same thing but my bike is black
dose your have a lot of torque?
how much time and money did this take? i was looking into mounting a motor on mine
those things used to be everywhere, did the manufacturer go out of business or something?
@dehsantanao They thought Henry Ford was stupid in 1896, also!
i built one of these with a 3.5 hp briggs motor for like a 150$ bucks cause my frend gave me the bike and motor. it tops out at obout 40mph but the one thing that suck about it is that is so slowwww on take off i thought it was cause i used a dirt bike tire in the rear but i saw u have the same problem so its got to be the clutch of the gear ratio it may be the clutch i got mine frome some place in sanford fl. where did u get urs ?????
cool...but! i can see you are using a motored bicycle gas tank...so im guessing you used to have the kit....what you should use for the chain is #40/41 pitch chain cause it wont break like the stuff from the kit. And second, you could have used the rear brakes by routing the chain under the rear arm, and you could of used the throttle from the kit as well, but still..really awesome bike
hey mate i am doing the same thing as what u r doing put my gear ratio is too high i was just wondering what your gear ratio is?? please reply
Can you give more info the sprocket
Make a video on how to do it!
is that a custom gas tank? also how did u make the throttle handle?
do u live in bakersfield,CA because i do i think i have seen u
