- This week I have taken a look at a classic blues track, "St James Infirmary" I based my version on the "Snooks Eaglin" version of the song, and have tried to make it my own.

Finally a Snooks Eaglin inspired version! My favourite too. Great lesson
+Frederik Bay yeh just my take on a snooks, not sure it's for the purists 😜 glad you enjoyed the lesson thanks for watching
Thanks Joe, you go at a pace I can handle, and as someone else said, at last Snooks Eaglin. I am reasonably familiar with the the great names in the blues story, but to my mind Snooks hardly gets a mention. Yet to me he is exceptionally diverse and sings and plays with great feeling and virtuosity - perhaps not such songwriter but his covers have a hugely distinctive and musical quality.
Fantastic relaxed informative lesson as always, thanks Joe.👍✌🏾
Beautiful ! Thank you, Joe
You are very welcome
Joe your lessons are so good as to regards about doing our own thing as to try and explain everything the right hand is doing would just suck all the fun out of it
Thanks Joe, you are a great teacher.
Thank you

thanks so much Joe. i have been looking for some snooks lessons and this is perfect. thank you. have you done snooks walking blues?
Thanks!
top lesson mate
Thanks Dan, maybe you would consider subscribing if you haven't already ?
Thanks
Thanks...I’d always done this in Am... I love Snooks and there are some opportunities here. Calls out for Dropped D tuning, doesn’t it? And I’m not sure if Snooks uses the IV chord...I learned this from Jack Teagarden way back and I always use the Dm or Dm7 in Am...here you could tune the b down to bb for a surprise in the middle for Gm, but easing the Bb fingering... provocative, so 🤩 thanks
Great lesson Joe. Just watched a couple of your lesson and they are excellent.
maybe you should go on Patreon - easy for people to donate.
+Chas7117 Thanks Chas
Superb lesson, Joe. Delighted to have stumbled across your channel. Many thanks for posting..
I am on Patreon Chas see link below
There's also a Gm in this song as the 4 chord.
thanks
Thanks dood :)
Do accept supermarket caparking coupons?( Great playing and great lesson by the way)
How about Wild Horses?
Hey, could you link to the backing track you used? Cheers
4:25 intro
Lesson starts at 2:32
The Snooks Eaglin version is my absolute favorite of my absolute favorite standard, and you, sir, have created a wonderful rendition of it. Awesome!
Unrelated, why do the video and sound not quite line up?
The sync issue was an editing error
It's still beautiful!
🙏
Thanks Joe...just to confirm, you are playing the solo over a backing track and not chords and solo together? Sounds great
Yeh.i am playing solo over backing track 👍
There's two guitars going there
nice this is a really helpful lesson, a freind wants to sing this in a concert and this helps alot, thanks for sharing!
+GuyFalkz VEVO Your welcome and thanks.
hugh laurie, was soooo smart to disable comments on his version of this one....well, his publicicst was...
Nice lesson. Did you use a looper?
+donojazz no backing track. Could be done with looper though, probably a lot easier too, but not as much control. Thanks for getting in touch
Hey Joe! Umm I'm confused - at around 1:33 it seems there's way more sound than your fingers would be creating. Are you not soloing over a backing? Not trying to be picky just confused :) x
+Isaac Oliver yep Isaac I am playing only the solo over the chords at that stage unfortunately the sound and video are slightly out of sync in that section which also doesn't help, anyways hopefully you get the general idea.
Which string tuning are you playing with?
Standard
A very nice and understandable method of instruction. Thank you
+Aubrey McBride Thanks Aubrey
Rating: ADVANCED
Do you have a tab of this?
I’m afraid not Inge, I did my best to explain everything 😊
I would love to see tabs for this. Having zero natural rhythm, I can't sort out where those base notes fit in.
I'm having trouble singing along to this song :/ I haven't gotten to the finger picking part towards the end of the video. Total guitar newbie here
Well this is a very hard song for a Newbie good luck
@@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons i am not deterred, I'm going to try again >:(
Sounded a bit like the Snooks Elgin version. Beautifully demonstrated and clearly narrated, even a dullard like me could follow it. Thank you, Joe ;-))
Hey joe, thanks for taking the time to comment. You are correct it is Snooks Eaglin version, I made a mistake with the title, I must change it. I also have a patreon page with lots of exclusive material just in case you are interested here is the link www.patreon.com/joesguitarlessons 👍
It would be a lot better if you had a close up of your left hand for real beginners to see how you're holding your chord! But thanks for the lesson Joe
"should you wish to donate..." - mark of the true artist... (cashing in on generations) before him/her
“Cashing in” do you know something I don’t ?
Please remember, this is only my opinion and we all know what that's worth. Eaglin's version is now easy to find. As for this dinosaur, I find it blasphemous (musically speaking), to alter a classic version from one of the masters that never really got his due whilst upon this earth.
Thank you & keep playing.
There was only one snooks eaglin, As I say in all my videos these are just my interpretations of songs, I think music is about trying to put something of yourself on whatever it is that you are playing. I am not one of these folks who tries to emulate others to the letter, why reinvent the wheel
Useless Talk
