I think Agust D was born of all the trauma he experienced and Agust gave him a voice for the things he couldn't say within the context of Suga of BTS.

I think he is trying to lay Agustd to rest and move on. However the end of Amygdala is left unresolved as though he knows the memories will persist and he will always struggle to overcome his reactions to the trauma.

he actually kinda talk a bit about it on his episode 9 of Suchwita with RM on how he is actually wishing/wanting for agust D to kinda -merge" with suga of bts, since he felt like he had finally somewhat gotten out the feelings of agust D that he wanted to express as well as how he talk about how in the end, suga of bts and agust d is the one and same person in the end , tho he explains it a lot better in the episode so i would recommend people to watch it themselves

BTS has gone against a lot of idol “being perfect” notions. Idols aren’t supposed to drink alcohol - BTS has been open about their alcohol consumption, Tae got dissed for smoking - Yoongi just shattered that image. BTS has stepped to up to the plate to de-idolize the image of idols. That is what Haegeum is partially about, making the idol image less perfection & more “we are human. Let us be human.”

My interpretation….Yoongi’s Agust D MVs are all one long story. I live for it. In Agust D we see how he is full of ego and clapping back at all the previous haters that tried to hold him down. That his endless work is what brings him to the top. Give It To Me is a direct continuation, where he says his fame surprised even himself and his family. That he was born a tiger and won’t live like a dog. He is blonde in both these videos, which then continues into Daechwita when he has ascended his throne. He even relates the lyrics directly back to his first two MVs by saying “born a slave but now a king, berserk tiger…you calling me a pup, i was born a tiger.” Daechwita he says “who’s the King, who’s the boss?” as we see Yoongi atop his throne fully having earned everything from working hard. But we know that “absolute power corrupts absolutely” and we see in the visuals that the King Yoongi has gone mad with power, killing dessenters. Blonde Yoongi is playing the role of his ambitions, his ego. Black haired Yoongi is playing the role of reality. He says “Here comes my reality check, there’s nowhere higher. I only looked up and now I want to look down and put my feet on the ground.” But the ambitions in Yoongi want him to keep climbing, despite not having any more satisfaction and having more than achieved his dreams. So the realist Yoongi kills his ambitions in order to be content with his current life. In Haegeum, realist Yoongi has become the leader of a police force. The new version of Yoongi is a more violent representation of Yoongi, who is a realist but seems to play the ‘chaotic good’ to Daechwita Yoongi’s ‘lawful good’. He says “interpretation is free for all. Freedom of expression could be the cause for someone’s death, could you still consider that freedom?” This line is absolutely magnificent. How many people express an opinion but then are condemned and villified? It could be something as simple as an opinion…or something like an idol stating they are homosexual which they then get backlash and hatred for. Could even lose their careers over what they have expressed, which is a kind of death. Even if the law says they can be that way, society condemns it, so there is really no freedom. The lyrics get even better. “If your convictions are reflected in your judgement and speculations and you believe that your freedom is on the same level as others’ then don’t hesitate, just get on board, liberation from all that is forbidden…this song is simply about freeing what’s forbidden, but remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence.” Basically he’s telling us to live genuinely as who we are, to examine ourselves and be true to our own beliefs, that everyone has the right to live as their genuine selves, as long as they aren’t harming others. He goes on to say “endless influx of information prohibits freedom of imagination and seeks conformity of thought, all the controversy incessantly triggers confusion in judgement” which is him saying that we are constantly being told by media, by other people online or in person, what we should think. We aren’t taking the time to form our own thoughts and opinions anymore. A single tweet from a person online can lead to a barrage of hate against someone, but no one actually goes to check if that tweet was realistic or true. We just follow the bandwagon, and media does as well. If many citizens write about it, media takes it as truth. We become slaves to each other and restricted. “Slaves to capitalism, slaves to money, slaves to hatred and prejudice, slaves to youtube slaves to flexin, selfishness and greed have gone off the rails”. Social media have caused us to constantly be in each other’s faces. We also can’t get away from products being pushed at us, we have become addicted to other people’s opinions and views. We can’t live without people seeing us. Rather than form genuine, in person connections having conversations with others and go out and spend time reading or in nature, we crave as many likes and views as possible, to make our fake online lives look as interesting as we can. We have become slaves to our internet personas. “Everyone’s been blinded by envy and jealousy, without realizing we are putting shackles on each other.” We see other people’s lives and things they have and we want them ourselves. We become slaves to each other’s uploads and reviews, to updates and opinions. Haegeum Yoongi is the idealist Yoongi. The one who kills the realist, who also happens to be the negative one who sees and perpetuates the negative things the new idealistic Yoongi wants to get rid of, like being a slave to the rat race and media, caring so much about public opinion rather than being his genuine self. In Amygdala, this is very much about Yoongi reliving his memories from before he made it at all, before Agust D even. He is remembering the memories that he wishes he can escape from, the accident he had that he hid for years and was left in pain until he got surgery in 2020, his mother’s heart surgery, his father’s cancer. We see him expressing his depression outwardly, through taking pills and even going so far as to carve into his own flesh, a marker of his pain that he carries with him that no one can see outwardly. This scar is not present in the Agust D or Give It To Me MVs. However we see Yoongi with it in his three newer videos. I believe this is signifying that the Yoongi of then was still hiding his pain, still climbing and maintaining his tough exterior. However once he reached the top and only had down to go, he had to come to terms with the pain of his past in order to be whole in his present. In Amygdala we see the scarred Yoongi crawling across the floor to the open door-now shut and locked-as he is pelted with rain. This downpour could be signifying of his tears, but it can also be a healing rain that washes away the pain. He says in the lyrics “let’s unpack them one by one…now let’s put them back in one after another”. As he recalls his memories and is effected by them, he is compartmentalizing the emotions they bring him, trying to come to terms and heal, but becoming overwhelmed. The most impactful lyrics are when Yoongi says “Hoped [I] made the best decisions…Because they're also all in the past now. So, is all countless suffering for my own good? What didn’t kill me only made me stronger and I begin to bloom like a lotus flower once again.” Lotus flowers are hugely significant, particularly in Asian culture and in many religions, but here they have specific meaning to Yoongi’s story. Lotus flowers are grown from mud, in conditions most flowers would find harsh or impossible to grow in. Also, lotus flowers are known to open in the morning and close in the evening, giving them a daily “rebirth.” Yoongi is specifically saying that like a lotus who has weathered harsh conditions he will grow and rise to be reborn whenever he may feel defeated. The amygdala is the part of the brain that is in charge of emotions. Yoongi begs for release from his own emotions which he cannot control (as someone with depression I can tell you it is a never ending battle that takes more people than it lets heal). The rain will either wash his pain away, or drown him. A feeling many of those with depression feel in a daily internal battle.

I think this was perfectly expressed….my take on the closed door was that even though he struggled to reach the light, the door remained closed to him because when you suffer from depression it is a constant battle that you really never escape from no matter how close to the light you get….In the video he managed to get closer to the light (door) instead of being stuck in the dark place (couch) but it was still a struggle and continues to be a struggle for him but he’s gotten further than he was before….He knows there is hope, he just has to keep fighting to stay as close to the light as possible

Here’s my take on the trilogy:
In Daechwita it’s Suga against the world, the system, the big 3, the haters… With his 6 brothers he overcomes.
In Haegeum, it’s Suga against all the expectations and rules (the police) now that he’s made it. He just wants to be free to do what he wants. Again, with his 6 brothers he overcomes.
In Amygdala, Suga realizes that it’s not about the world, the system, the haters, the rules, etc… it’s always been him fighting against his inner self - the pain in the past, the fears, the insecurities. This is signified by the creation of scarred Suga in his own psyche. But now he realizes that he doesn’t want to kill that off, it’s part of him, part of what’s made him into who he is today. Instead of killing it off, he tries to rescue it, a sign that he is now at peace with himself.

It’s an ongoing joke in the fandom that BigHit has been planning things out for BTS (or the members themselves have been planning it) for a ridiculously long time. The memes get really hilarious. But it’s not uncommon for them to drop hints and Easter eggs years in advance and plot things out. He’d always planned a trilogy of albums but it’s fun going back over to see how they all tie together. They very deliberately make music and MVs you any yo rewatch/relisten to to catch more details.

Yes my take on it is this
Daechwita the King is rep of the haters, Augst D himself - so Augst D silences the haters with his success out from underground rappers who thought he sold out becoming an idol, then we go to Haegeum, Augst D now the police commissioner and Suga as himself ( he doesn’t have the face scar) as you said John, he burns the money symbolizing he doesn’t care about the money/wealth/awards/fame, so now that he has proven himself and told his stories ( per what he told RM on R-chwita ( suchwita) he killed the Augst D character because he no longer needs to separate himself from Suga of BTS and Augst D the ex underground rapper,he has united or melded them into himself Suga whether it’s as of BTS or Solo Suga he said that Augst D was his angry side that he needed to get out, it didn’t fit with the Suga of BTS messages per se
John I don’t think we will see Augst D return, according to what Suga told RM he is done with that side, he told his story, he’s no longer angry, he’s moved on and now is the present and future Suga & Prod. Suga

Although there are moments that are difficult to watch in these 3 videos, there are hopeful moments as well. In Daechwita, the King was powerful but isolated, but the rebel had his gang of six friends, and the thief also had a gang of six friends. The King's scar looks like it has not healed much. The rebel's scar looks like it has healed more that the King's. The detective's scar is faded and the thief does not have a scar. In the last video, we see Yoongi get on his bike and crash into the car repeatedly, and Amygdala Yoongi tried repeatedly to open the door. But the last time we see Yoongi get on his bike, he stops when it begins to rain and he runs to the door to try and open it, as the Amygdala Yoongi struggles but still is not able to reach the door. That might not seem very hopeful, except that the cycle was broken when Yoongi ran back to the door. The image of the lotus flower blooming in the mud is also a hopeful moment in this song .

I love Yoongi hes so out there, he was drinking on stage at his concert apparently and I for one am here for it. If he wants a drink he should have one and if it was a western artist it wouldnt even be commented on!! This trilogy of songs hits so hard. So for me I think Yoongi thought making money would classify as being successful but now hes realised that being successful has absolutely nothing to do with money. I think hes in a much better head space and much happier with his life and hes doing what he loves which believe it or not is working very very hard!!! The amount of stuff he actually does is understimated by a lot of people because he has this persona of being "sleepy, tired and not interested" whereas all of us ARMY know the only time he stops is when hes asleep. His work schedule would have killed me back in the day when I did work (Im old and retired now). The dance studio is the BTS dance studio in HYBE Building. It is exclusively for use of BTS. All the BigHit HYBE artists have other dance studios for them to use. The BTS dance studio is almost the size of a basketball court and if you notice they have their own basketball ring. It just shows how Bang PD and BigHit take care of BTS by giving them their own studio to be used by the group or as solo artists.

John, people who experienced intense trauma and bad childhoods have split personalities, not in a bad way, but as a coping mechanism and still to get through everyday life. They try to look strong and careless even when they are trapped in pain, scared people inside. To me it seems that the accident was the last straw to kill his innocence and toughen him up, and that's where his personality split to Suga,, the more innocent, introvert softie who questioned why those things happened to him, and August D who was tough, determined to get him out of sh**t as illustrated with the cut on his face and the smirk. That's just to cope with the pain and denied childhood/love. In life such protective personalities eventually get corrupted, because they turn down the empathy not to feel pain themselves, but then it starts leaking out to other aspects of life too. Yoongi is really great to be such highly self-aware from such a young age. Now the role of the amygdala is to store information through experience and feed us back that info in the form of fear to keep us safe (a child touching hot stove =hot stoves will burn you) but big traumas result in big fears stored in amygdala, which often are disproportionate to real life dangers, so it keeps showing up in unhealthy ways which then can lead to self destruction, substance abuse, violence, lack of empathy, shutting people/love out and even attempted or actual su**cide. It's an endless loop, and as optimistically many are saying that it's great that Yoongi overcame this, I don't think he did, he just at best learned to cope better, in a healthier way (I hope) Brain does not delete data, traumas scar brain tissues and memory is stored in weird ways- sometimes distorted, sometimes incomplete, or exaggerated and another bad event can easily trigger it all.

11:55 "Do you think we'll ever see that guy rise again?" I think we ALWAYS do. I think that was part of the reason we're seeing him here, after Daechwita. Those darker impulses are ALWAYS a part of us.
The message I get from Agust D here is that the next step after loving ourselves is *knowing* ourselves. We need to understand what we're fully capable of-- the good AND the bad-- and find a healthy balance between them. "You must remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence"-- you slip too far into self-indulgence, into greed, and the Shadow takes over again, and you're back into the struggle between one or the other of you surviving.
And a note on the smoking... on the one hand, smoking has been made into the ultimate "rebel" image of "you can't tell me what to do" (thanks, tobacco company marketing and Hollywood), but on the other hand... it IS an addiction, so in that way it's ironically the opposite of freedom. He's also doing it in a video where he's JUST TOLD US not to be addicted to CZcams (HA!) or follow blindly after the tastemakers who tell us what we're "supposed to" like. So while on the face of it, there's a sense of "YEAH! Agust D is a REBEL!" I think there's a deeper message there, too.
(Full disclosure, I am *not* a fan of smoking. I think it smells horrible and as a singer it's bad for your throat. I also lost both of my grandfathers to health issues that were probably a direct result of their lifelong smoking habits-- one to stroke and one to cancer.)

My thoughts, only since you asked:
I feel like if Agust D is a truly fractured part of self, his psyche, then he will return.
In Amygdala, he doesnt quite make it all the way to and through the door, but he has gotten closer to the light. That the white door symbolizes. In Haegeum the scar is still there but it is fading. And in each incarnation it gets a little better. This is how it is in real life as well. Now what I believe, is that you can't completely get rid of the dark. It takes a balance of both to be whole. Like the idea of shining a flashlight in the dark, you now know what is there even though you may not be able to see it. I feel this is reflected in him looking at the corrupt detective and King. He sees himself, that's why he smiles. And in each case as you know he kills that bad part of himself. That fear of the dark side. (Star Wars reference meant lol) Interesting that the amygdala is the fear center of the brain.
Suga knows what he is doing and the depth is mind blowing. I just adore the artistry and they never cease to amaze me with how much they share of themselves.
Of course this could all be poppycock and its just my thoughts. He may just really love Christopher Nolan movies, Inception. 😘💜🫰🏻

I'm honestly starting to see that Suga, the one repeating the memory of his accident is just as trapped as Agust D is in that dark part of his mind. I think it could be something like he created Agust D to express all those emotions he couldn't in his IDOL life but that in turn led to Agust D being so filled with anger because of the limitation. In turn he created Suga as a silent barrier. Notice in the video as he repeats the accident (not the way we were told it happened) he doesn't really show much emotion. Like how the residual hauntings of a ghost work, the actions are there but the spirit and purpose is gone. He doesn't show emotion until he's confronted with the visual signal from his Amygdala, Agust D lying there in the rain looking hurt and injured (probably a more accurate image of how they found him after his accident). That's when Suga runs from the memory, trying to escape back into his Amygdala.
What I understand about the Amygdala is that it stores painful traumatic memories and when you're faced with a stimuli that is reminiscent of that trauma it activates the fight or flight response.
Maybe both Suga and Agust D are trapped in the Amygdala and realize the only way they can truly escape is by reconnecting, by becoming Min Yoongi.

my theory - the chef police officer is a corrupted one & the one looks like a criminal is actually "steeling" from the police officer . See the scene right after the criminal suga took the money, 1:01 of the MV the guy called to inform 1:04 the officer. Then 2:59 the officer got angry when the money's burnt - because that's HIS. Next scene, guys in black suits are obviously not police but a gang work for the officer & pull suga to not the police station but kinda backstreet to "publish" him. The end, you see it was a police car drove Suga back to the noodle shop - is he a spy? undercover? with the mission to catch/kill the corrupted officer?
If the theory's right, then all parallel to Daechwita - the ruthless King= the officer= dark side of a person; the rebel = the undercover = the bright side/the side with correct mind of a person
Amygdala - the scar, the past are all the dark side which he wanna forget, free himself from (of course, this song include his past memories are also causing his fear). Or the other way to see it, it's the dark experiences/fears that lead to scars & lead to a person turn bad being the King/the corrupted officer. Good or bad person, all depends on how one dealt with issues they faced, all personal choice & if the person can free themselves from the memories.

I tell people closest to me that I'm functionally depressed. People who meet me would never know. I smile and laugh and look like anybody else. When I get close to someone and they discover that part of me, they are always shocked because they say I don't "act" depressed.
Yoongi's Amydala was cathartic to me. It represented outwardly, what I am like inwardly. The most resonant part for me is when he sits eating while watching himself. When I am stressed or overloaded, I often feel like an observer on the sidelines watching my own life play out in front of me. Detached. This is the first time I've ever seen that depicted. Amydala really does show what it's like on the inside.
I'm so happy Yoongi got out of the room.

Agust D is the voice against the negative thoughts and people he speaks to us in a way that we need to weak up and do what is right
The scar everone of us have that scar a hidden scar you only can see it... Scar represent the hurt the bad memories or the moment this unfortunate memory changed you for ever.. On his last live he talk about the scar and he say if you notice the scar in Haegeum is fading or healed which means he is in peace with himself and want to focus on positive things since he make peace with himself he needs to release Agust D with his last album it's his way to payed goodbye to him we never know if we will see him again it's up to Suga
Suga... Agust D... Min Yoongi this three people on one body a solid evidence that he is more than a genius and I know for sure there is so much on his pocket for the future BTS or the new Suga /Min Yoongi 😊

Yes. Exactly. You are the only reactor mentioning that the genius of Suga planned this trilogy since day 1. Where did he write "Haegum" and "Amygdala"? Its been a secret, but the answer is in Suga's documentary. And if you saw In the Soop Part 2 you will notice Suga spends lots of his vacation time in the work trailer provided to him. What was he doing? Watch the documentary because we didnt really know watching In The Soop.

There was an interesting behind the scenes video for Daechwita that showed his long blonde hair wig was actually an Elsa from Frozen wig they used a hot iron to straighten. Adds to the depth of the song & video’s meaning.

  • @ceejays

I agree, Amygdala would be the prequel - how Agust D was born
then in the Daechwita shoot he said a new Agust D (black haired) has come to challenge the mad king, that's why he's blonde (Agust D song)... and with each video we can see his scar's healing
IU's Palette, Road to D-Day documentary, Suchwita interview by RM (R-chwita), and his D-Day weverse live gave us more context behind the trilogy of Agust D
man's a real genius and so relatable, that's why he's always been my bias 💜

Not remembering what memory to work on/through>> he says" I don't know your name" which holds more meaning each/every time I see/listen. We try to put a bad memory away as if it didn't happen. We believe the lie "it's over-an-done-with" but it grows without us watering it. We lose valuable insight if buried too soon.

Yoongi becoming Suga of BTS and utilising Agustd as his voice of freedom which describes his hardships that had a hand to the young man he has become. Yoongi secretly loves dance and is obviously a great dancer. He used To practice breakdancing as a trainee.
He stopped enjoying it as much when he had his accident and was in so much pain all the time. It wasn’t just painful to dance, it was painful all the time, and sleep was elusive so he was exhausted.
Now that he has had his shoulder surgery and recovered he can finally enjoy dancing again without pain.

I definitely see what you mean about one version (Suga version maybe?) setting the money on fire because it doesn't rule him. The Suga, or whatever you want to call him, version of Min Yoongi has two noticeable differences between him and shadow or other side in Haegeum and Daechwita - he's always noticeably poorer than AgustD/Mad King/Police Officer, and he has his six guys/tannie stand-ins with him.

For sure AGUST D & even SUGA were personas he needed to be the voices for and to protect himself, MIN YOONGI. It's easy to see why he chose "MY AMYGDALA" as his fave song on D-DAY, when IU asked.

I was watching your video trilogy and I wanted to ask…in Daechwita when he’s strutting through the village right before he raps “we so fly, we so fly, private plane, we so fly” He bumps into a guy with a beard who begins to fight with another guy…that’s Jin and Jungkook. Love your channel and this Trilogy.
People forget that these guys are grown men now not debut BTS.
My theory of this trilogy is Min Yoongi shows himself in Daechwita when he has an ego, worshipped money, didn’t know how to manage his life as well as his mental health. Believed those in control. He killed off Min Yoongi’s negative character flaws and how his neg childhood influenced these things.
In Haegeum it’s the same thing but it shows growth. He’s no longer a bragging child, he has had an epiphany. He looks at his anger, it’s explosive. He see corruption in the industry. He also is referring to being tied down and unable to speak, or do what he want to do because of the industry. Smoking in the video shows the rebellion against the machine and he smiles as he runs away. I love it. Notice in his videos that if there are backup actors or dancers, there’s usually only seven including himself, which makes BTS.
In amygdala, he is reflecting back on the things that have happened to him in his life that I’ve heard him and caused in pain. His mother and father, both being sick and having his own problems with mental health devastating injury to the shoulder. Two suicide attempts, one of which Jin helped him. When he says “I don’t know your name” shows that he no longer recognizes that old person anymore. With growth and help from his brothers, he has matured and become a new person. Min Noongi & Suga do not know who Agust D is because he is no longer the same. Will he show up again we all evolve we all become new people as time goes on he just may.
    Sorry for the novel !

I've yet to see anyone mention the fact that it's implied he stole that goldfish, and he did steal the mad King/Detective's jacket. 😆 The name of the song Amygdala is perfect too, he's going back through his feelings and memories, and that's what the amygdala is responsible for. I find it cool how sometimes his song titles will be seemingly random, and other times it's the biggest clue to the meaning of the song. He's a master poet, knows how to weave the words to where sometimes he doesn't have to say right out what it means, and other times there's no questions on what he means. ("This song's simply about freeing what's forbidden, But you must remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence.") He never fails to pull a reaction! It was all the things he talks about in the song Amygdala that gave us Agust D, I think Daechwita and Haegeum are him recognizing and accepting that part of himself and realizing he doesn't need it anymore, not like he used to, but at the same time he's not denouncing it as a part of himself. 💜💜💜 I always really enjoy your videos, thank you for making them!

Now that, according to Yoongi, the trilogy of the Agust D with the scar is completed with AMYGDALA, I have a theory. I believe that Agust D started at AMYGDALA, since we found out that that's when the scar was made by him. I think that that broken part of him, in order to move on, had to be left behind. So I think that the Agust D of AMYGDALA died in that dark place. Then in DAECHWITA, the King is killed by the Agust D that became the Police Chief in HAEGEM. Who was then killed by that "new" guy that doesn't have a scar. I believe that the Agust D from the AMYGDALA, kept involving to the king then to the police chief and finally to the guy without the scar. The more scarred version of his got killed everytime by his more healed one. The reason why this trilogy is over is, I think, because his scars of his past are healed and he's now truly happy, away from that dark place... At least I hope... He went through so much. He deserves to be happy with his 6 brothers 💜

Agust D allows freedom of expression, not only from contractual restrictions placed on the group. It also allows content that cannot be found by accident by young fans looking for BTS on the internet accessing unsuitable content. In Daechwita and Haegeum we see rebel Suga. A telling detail is after he is ordered bound by powerful power abusing Suga, the oppressed people in black start mirroring Sugas head banging rhythm. It is their support gives him power and confidence to take down the corrupt King. The corrupt power figure in Haegeum ( we know he's corrupt from his actions) thinks he has control of the gang as Suga is plunged into the barrel but Suga again is proven to be the rebel leader. All he starts with are 2 chopsticks but he gets money and support and takes down the corrupt system without it even noticing him getting the support to do so. We clearly see which side Suga is choosing. After all his fame money and power could make him part of the system, but he's never forgotten his roots. He wants money and power only to take the corrupt system down. It is clear in Daechwita and Haegeum he has always believed in himself and his power to do so. So here is the question. Suga is now starting to say he might like to start his own production company in the future. Now Hyve is so big is that harder for Suga to use the influence of the group to get what the group needs? After all he started his brilliant Suchwita to ensure they got quality promotion in an environment where they felt safe and protected. So is wanting his own production company a power move? Or will he only do so if he cannot steer the company the way he wants it to go. He has repetitively voiced wanting to smooth the path of trainees. RM may be the leader but Suga is the tactical General. That kitten has claws.
