  • If you didn't know, Goodwill thrift stores hoard all the best vintage wedding dresses until Halloween time. For years I have enjoyed shopping through the selection and trying them on just for fun. Last year in 2022 my mom and I recorded this fun thrift store dress up time and the videos seem to delight other people. So we're back at it again! Here's the first store we went to in 2023 Halloween Season. Thanks for watching and please comment your thoughts down below. God bless you!

    The union label indicated that it was made in a union shop, nothing to do with uniforms. Unions for seamstresses was hugely important for giving the worker a living wage and not being subjected to sweatshop rules. It has so much history with womens rights, and was one of the first ways that women were given rights.

    I love that you have some 90's or 90's versions of 80's. As a child, I only had the 2000's and the magazine from the early 90's my grandmother had kept from my mom's wedding time. I preferred the 80's as they seemed more complete than the ones without sleeves ,or blusher veils. My 'goals' dress is probably a more subtle 80's style. But now I get to see other decades. The other one I would consider is , maybe,a 1940's style. I would be afraid of how fragile it would be,and how much cleaning it might need if it were real vintage from that era and not reproduction. However the material just wouldn't be the same nowadays. The ones you're trying on are probably still in better shape.

      I would tend to agree as my mom does sew, but a couple have been raw and open on every single sewn edge which is very unusual. Most alterations on flowy dresses don't require dismantle of the whole garment. Interesting huh?

    Love seeing the these wedding gowns. If possible in the future can you tell us the designer if it has an inside tag? Higher end gowns will have designer tag in the back but even some cheaper gowns will have a sewn
    in label. Also keep in mind that many many girls have to have their wedding gowns altered to fit their individual frame and depending on the amount of work that needs to be done you might see some stitching that resembles home sewing but the dress is still a manufactured gown. Love these videos. ❤

    • @thissideofthefirmament
      @thissideofthefirmament  Před 10 měsíci

      Originally we just started doing this bc it is simply my mom and I just doing what we do :) we did try to mention tags and even video the tags if they were present, including the size. Both my mom and I have worked for owners of businesses focused on vintage textiles for several years, so we have an idea of how tags have looked over the decades and how tagged sizes reflect a decent idea of what decade of dress it may be. We were trying, but at the time we did the first two videos we were just two vintage/thrift living gals enjoying an afternoon in town. I appreciate your comment and will definitely keep it in mind :)

    The 1980s have such an awful reputation! I was married in 1980. My dress was similar to Kate Middleton except with a higher neck than the keyhole she had. I’ve always been pleased I liked it then, like it now, and never had to apologize for it. However the #1. All Time Great Dress? Not even a wedding dress. Pippa Middleton as mail of honor. Those little buttons going up her back (and over her butt). My word! She jokes about that dress … that was a work of art on a perfect figure.)
