- Today we shall elucidate the 17th Legion of the Adeptus Astartes: The Word Bearers.
Once known as the Imperial Heralds, the scions of Primarch Lorgar Aurelian would enact a holy war across the stars first in the name of The Emperor before falling from grace.
Now the most steadfast disciples of the Chaos Gods, the Word Bearers continue to wreak zealous havoc across the galaxy adorned in the parchments of their appalling creed.

I am The Remembrancer.
It is my duty to retell the stories and chronicles of the glorious Imperium of Mankind.
Via voxlink and transmission I shall send my tales through the Warp in the hopes that the Imperium might hear of it's forgotten histories and Remember it's sacred past.
For in the grim darkness of the far future there is only War.

Word Bearers have one of my favourite story arcs in the Heresy series, topped only by the White Scars. A heartwarming tale of Lorgar’s search for the truth of the universe. With such selfless and positive mentor figures as Erebus and Kor Phaeron, you really get the feeling that it will be a happy ending for all involved 😂
I liked the omnibus featuring Marduk too
Anthony Reynolds wrote them
For me they really changed after the Emperor had a quiet word in Monarchia. Brought them to life. ⭐️
Sarcasm is often the subtle evidence of a corrupted soul.
Tread carefully, Citizen.
😉

"It's called treachery, Roboute. It works quite well. Let the galaxy burn, brother." - Lorgar Aurelian during the Battle of Calth
“And after 10,000 years of bitter reflection, the Urizen is readying for war.”
Corvus Corax: *Incessant Cawing*
Nah. Lorgar got out his sanctuary because Corax found a way in.
Word Bearers: Who?
Corax is just a half forgotten myth among the CSM. He's likely been dead or captured a few thousand years prior to M41
"So...how'd you think that went?" - Big E to Bobby G
"I think he took it well" hesitatantly said by Gorilla Man.
Ironic to think all of this could have been avoided if Lorgar wasn’t such a slow poke in compliances.
Lol yeah, the big E wouldn't have sanctioned him if they had rushed a bit more during compliance. Or not found out until later, maybe allowing Cadia to be discovered by a different legion. But as with the newest book in the Siege of Terra, we know that something as mundane would never have stopped destiny, and there was no way Lorgar could have fought his path. He is a Slave to Darkness, and always shall be.
@@DaniMolwdym always would have been? Dude the whole HH is destiny is made by your own hands.
Damn man, the Imperium is so damn hypocritical
I've only ever heard people shit on the Wordbearers, but honestly, this video made me like them
Main hypocrisy of Big E: You can't be zealous and mindless and follow Lorgar's teachings, but you must be zealous and mindless in following my Imperial Truth.
the destruction of monarchia and shaming of the word bearers, as well as the abduction of angron, rank among the emperors greatest mistakes.
Elucidate…Iconoclasts… Duplicitous…what a wordsmith. Love this channel. 👏🏻
Used to really dislike the word bearers but then I listened to first heretic and they are easily in my top five such a good legion and can’t deny I really like lorgar to
The sad thing is that Colchis was the very image of what the imperium after the heresy, would become..
The word bearers were a legion I knew enough about to like them, but not enough to see if I love them. Keep up the great elucidations Remembrancer
Word Bearers walked so every faction of Chaos Marines after them could fly.
I am not a Word Bearer fan but First Heretic and Betrayer have to be my top 3 HH Books.
Yeah. I think Lorgar probably should have seen the red flags when summoning the gods required impaling naked people and all that. "Maybe this isn't a good idea." "Hey, when in Cadia..."
Betrayer is easily my top 3. Know No Fear being number 2.
Reading first heretic right now and it IS great
So the art of the Imperial Heralds art that pops up first at 10:18 was actually a commission piece I had done a few years back by a great guy off Instagram. I don't know how or why my comment has not shown up that I made the day this vid came out, very strange. Anyhow nice to know the art has found the spotlight, even for a moment!
Many thanks for your illumination of the Imperium!
Sad, a legion ahead of its time 😔
Traitors of humanity, worshipers of extradimensional parasites.
The Black Legion leads, but the Word Bearers make so.
Together they are the Greater Evil.
And I love them for that.
The Blood Ravens claim this video for the honour of the chapter!
Faith is the ultimate weapon. Do you have faith Brother? Do You Believe?
Erabus and logar did everything wrong while Magnus didn't. Poor magnus.
Well.......
Eh... all three underestimated the dark powers and thought they could control Chaos. But also, all three had very good reasons to hate the Emperor for being a hypocritical a-hole
Word Bearers and Lorgar are the reason I got into Warhammer. My first love in the mythos. This video was truly great. I can't wait for a Lorgar Aurelian primarch video. For the Dark Gods!
The Word Bearers are by far the most dangerous threat for the very soul of humanity is at stake against these foul fanatics of the Chaos Gods, and if let unchecked they will corrupt every single man, woman, and child within the Imperium and send their souls straight to their Dark Masters.
Good!
That's why I love them.
If you look at the Imperium, it is held together by the faith in the Emperor, because in the grim dark universe of 40k you need a light to believe in. Lorgar knew this and without it, the Imperium would had collapsed. The Imperium followed on what he did.
I just fell into 40k lore and I find your content enthralling. Thanks for helping me understand this grimdark setting.
They are literally me fr fr ong (i only wanted was the truth)
Lorgar is declared excommunicatus sigmatus - too based for the Imperium
An awesome story arc would be Word Bearers that stayed Loyalist and emerged after the Heresy to say they were right all along and given the order by The Emperor Himself to do everything they did.
Okay!,from all the 40k videos and channels that I am checked into yours by far has the best narration your voice is what makes these stories come to life for me ...
Thank you.
☠️☠️☠️
To be completely fair and defending lorgar when you study religions and philosophy all the signs were kinda pointing towards the god emperor of mankind being a god.
"You are a god in all but name" Is one of my favorite Lorgar quotes. Said that shit to dad's face.
Things might've been different if only Lorgar had seen that the Bird is the one true Word...
Word bearers are 1 of my favorite chaos space marines why? Because of the daemons and Argal Tal being the 1st to fall victim to the mutation of the warp and becoming a demonic monstrosity!!!! YEAH F*CK YEAH CHAOS- Ahem sorry I’m done now
I did not know the history of the Legion prior to their reunion with their primarch, it is extremely interesting they always were zealots or fanatics of some kind, the spots or stripes of their exterior might had changed over time but their core was always the same, whether secular, Imperial or of Chaos they represent that human trait of needing and seeking subjection to a greater power, no matter if it is true or false, because for some being architechs of their destiny and playthings of chance is a fate too terrible to bear.
Can't wait for Logar to emerge and fight the Imperium. Both Guilliman and Corax have unfinished business with him.
that's assuming Lorgar is even still alive. It's not impossible that Lorgar is dead and the Dark Council has been saying "he's still in meditation" to keep themselves in power and the rest of the legion under their thumb. Erebus esp is quite the backstabber. It is far from unthinkable that Erebus would turn on his primarch and kill him then cover his tracks with stories and fictions.
@jamesneese7663 if Erebus could he would but he got stomped by Kharn let alone a Primarch. Logar is alive he has been hiding from Corax though and now he feels strong enough to emerge. We will see how that works when Corax shows up to test him.
Great way to tick off a chilly Sunday. Thank you Remembrancer
Magnus did no wrong and Lorgar was ahead of his time....
Ty you mate ths you for the long version video . its amazing as useall love it . will we get any Eldar dark eldar lore ?
If the Emperor would just leave them to their silly antics Chaos would be easily defeated.
Not really, they allowed the worship of the old faith (Chaos) alongside the worship of the emperor. So they made him stronger, but also his enemies.
10:07 Our Blessed Lady Cyrene
I love this videos, I enjoy them while having lunch 😍
Your channel is my favorite.
Thx for partage like habitude excellent vid 👏👏👏👏👏👏thx remembrancer
Traitors to humanity
You're all traitors to yourselves.
*SPEAK, BROTHERS.*
I played Space Marine when it first came out; it blew me away and that’s when my jump into the WH40K Universe began.
It has always been challenging to get a hold on the chronological “order” of things.
So I began the HH saga with Horus rising (using my @theremembrancer Audible discount) and I’ve been supplementing with your channel, A Border Prince, Sir Baldy, Warrior Tier, Luetin etc…
I know the Book of Lorgar was already a thing that Garviel Loken comes upon in the early books of the HH, but I can never find where Lorgar actually wrote the “Lecticio Divinitatus”
Is there a video explaining the timeline of each Primarch, when they were found, what they did before being discovered, what they did to earn their Legions etc…?
Love all of this and can’t thank you all enough for all of the work you put into this.
You're going to have a very difficult time finding just videos that will help you, reading the novels and stories really is what will allow you to understand all of that. Lorgar published his book before Monarchia was burned. It's possible if he had held it back until Monarchia, he never would have released it.
@@DaniMol it’s definitely a heavy ask for any content creator I’m certain 😂. I’ve just finished Mechanicum and until I get my next audible credit I usually re-listen to several of the previous novels.
So far I really did enjoy “Legion” “Galaxy in Flames” and “Flight of the Eisenstein”
@@DaniMol I’m really excited to hear Lorgar and Magnus lore.
There's a couple collections of short stories about the Primarchs that outline it, but rarely are novels that direct. You're more likely to get straightforward descriptions from codex or rulebooks which isn't all that helpful considering how scattered that all is.
The Grimdark Narrator is kind of dry, but he does have pretty comprehensive lists of videos overing everything. Majorkill also does a lot but he's an acquired taste of memelord bro style and colors a lot of his lore with jokes and vulgarity.
And just avoid Arch... that guy's just a douche.
I can’t really state how much I hate Erebus and Kor Phaeron, pure evil for the sake of it.
Did the Gal Vorback legit interact with the infant primarchs? Or was that just a vision?
Given they had their gellar field off, there's really 2 possibilities:
Either they were literally sent back into a moment in time and were actually there.
Or they were inserted into a psychic memory of the Emperor's lab.
I'd wager it's more likely to be the second, as 40k doesn't mess much with time travel, but either is possible. The chaos gods did directly interfere within the lab itself, so it's not like there's a significant barrier to the idea.
@@spaghettimkay5795 It could be either of them yes, it's also possible they were never there at all, and they just saw what they needed to see, to devote themselves fully to Chaos.
Or it's possible they were truly there and they hid Erda's actions. It's likely we will never know the truth.
@@spaghettimkay5795 time doesn't work the same in the warp though right? As fun as it would be for them to have interacted with the infant primarchs somehow and causing a loop in which chaus was always going to to be released. There is so much lore that time travel would confuse me to the point of madness.
with chaos, there is no difference. Chaos was already in motion, so showing those two a vision of what happened changes nothing. Chaos are liars. It would not be too surprising that they pretended to those Word Bearers that there was a "choice" when there was no choice at all. Just the illusion of choice. Notice for example that Tzeetch already had his claws into the thousand sons via the flesh change LONG before Magnus was ever found and cut a deal with Tzeetch to "save" his sons. Think about it Tzeetch MADE the problem that Magnus went begging for him to "solve", sold the "cure" at the cost of Magnus' soul, then #$@@$ over the Thousand Sons anyway....!
@@DaniMol I don’t believe in this Erda nonsense. Convenient retcon to pozz/longhouse the universe.
Top stuff
,,Death followed them whether the Herald lived or died. Sometimes you need victory and sometimes you need a symbol."
Some things are not about the causalities. It's about sending a message. And any city or group that was dumb enough to kill a herald gave the legion carte blanche to wipe them out of existence, even the women and children and civilians who had no say in the city's "defiance". After a few massacres, you'd think some people would take the hint. but nah.
I was cleaning while listening to this great video and when he repeated "Specialists such as the Ashen Circle" twice, I thought there's a glitch in the matrix. Had to go back to check it's in the video and not only in my head lol.
ngl if Lorgar decided to teach mankind to worship themselves, Big E might find them the most based legion
7:03 Lorgar looks like he's about to knock out Apollo Creed andyell 'ADRIAAAN!' at the top of his voice here
it's Argel Thal, not Lorgar.
Lorgar was right! Glory to the God Emperor!
There should be a sign that says Erebus did nothing wrong. 😂 that would be great
Behold, Corvus Corax’s favorite chew toys, Lorgars bastard Sons, the Word Bearers.
lorgar aurelian, baldest of the bald primarchs
Anyone have some advice for what I could use to make a Zahariel mini? I'm new to the hobby and want to build a Dark Angels army. Just starting Fallen Angels in the Horus Heresy and Zahariel has been my favorite character since Descent of Angels but I'm not sure howni could play him on the table.
Warp loop 21:04
God damn it Lorgar...
29:10 nightmare fuel
Welcome to 40k, mate.
the funny part in all this, we have only the word (no pun intended, honest) of Erebus and Kor that Lorgar is alive and well. Can the two biggest liars in galactic history (and that's saying a LOT) be trusted to be telling the truth? Even Pretarabo and Angeron and Fulgrim put in a few massacres after the Horus Heresy. Lorgar though, completely AWOL. That's more than a little sus. Then comes the matter that Erebus and Kor are both among the most infamous snakes and backstabbers in human history, both of them having often said the legion would operate much better if Lorgar was out of the way. Who is to say that Erebus hasn't been running the greatest scam since the Heresy itself, having murdered or imprisoned the primarch, then using Lorgar's name and reputation for his own ends? The Word Bearers legion is a legion all about self deception and misguided fanatics ..so what's one more betrayal and deception to those two fork tongued bastards?
I think the Emperor is the biggest liar... well, behind the Alpha Legion that is. They even lie to themselves.
A Interaction for the Interaction God, a Comment for the Comment Throne, for the Almighty Algorithm
god damn I feel bad for Lorgar. He sees a vision of a god king arrive, it happens, he worships this god king and gets punished for it. Fast forward ten years, and the whole imperium is doing the same thing, while he and his people are outcasts. Biggest mistake the Emperor ever did and it's responsible for the whole heresy
I agree, the destruction of Manarchia was beyond a heavy handed response. Makes you wonder if he did it all knowing full well what would happen later.
His mistake was not ensuring Lorgar adhered to his will and desire.
Lorgar literally defied his own God, and pikachu-faced when got punished lol
Wasn't the Emperor's mistake. It was Lorgars.
And then he doubled down.
Ce serait super et sympa que vous fassiez une video sur les deux légions inconnues la deuxième et la onzième ce sont les deux manquantes pour je ne sais quelle raison bizarre car tout cela est fictif
There is no data on them, so will be a very short video
It is really ironic to know that all the emperor of mankind had to do was humor lorgar just a little bit and the Horus heresy would never have happened. The strewed up thing is, if the emperor is all knowing of things. Then why would he let it happen to begin with? Does this mean he isn’t omniscient? He didn’t know that the Horus heresy was going to happen? Was he that arrogant? Did he not think that his kids wouldn’t retaliate against him for doing screwed up things to them? It comes to my questions about my own beliefs and the whole grand scheme of things and religion in general. Yes I’m talking about Christianity. Sometimes it makes no sense at all. Yet at times it makes perfect sense. I guess we’ll never know till we are dead, and even then we might not get it. Maybe we are never meant to understand.
Remember, I only wanted the truth......
Boi was always going to go FUBAR
Chants words from the book of lorgar
Where is that 30k Animation from?!?!??!?!!?!?
Death of Hope by Mark Spark.
i mean...if ya looked back at erebus his eyerings,it is obviously he had sum shit going on....dark shit.
I miss Argel Tal
Wasn't it Colchis that they burnt and not Monarkia?
Damn Emperor should have just told the Primarchs about Chaos from the beginning. Magnus, Lorgar, Horus, Mortarion, Fulgrim and even Alpharius ALL underestimated Chaos and fell into its lure because they had no idea, no preparation, no point of reference.
The Emperor was a hypocrite. He preached "truth" to the point of openly punishing, subjugating or exterminating anyone who stood against truth but then keeps secret after secret and pushes lie after lie.
The Horus Heresy ALWAYS comes back to the Emperor's flaws which indeed prove that he is no god. Only a human can be as arrogant, prideful, naive, ignorant and overconfident as he was. If he WAS a god, he'd be the god of Hubris
BUT, each traitor primarch were also responsible for their own fall. Every one was warned at one point or another to turn back, but they all had the same stubbornness as their "father" and passed their points of no return, perhaps not fully aware of what they were doing but still cautioned nonetheless.
I bet Lorraine doesn't like Edgar Allan Poe
I hate Erebus and Lorgar...but the WB sure has very cool lore and Argel Tal is the bro.
Still I will never bring myself to playing them. Love playing against them.

Iconoclasm 🤢🤢🤮
Based Orthodoxy 😎😎😇
THey are the worse of the astartes ...... They made the lodges . Erebus was the one whos pread chaos across the primarchs
Hello how are you
With their worship of the God-Emperor, they did nothing wrong.
But, though his father had the right to correct his ways, it is Rowboat Girlyman who is truly responsible for turning the greatest of loyal sins to the dark powers.
He mocked his brother, lied saying he “loved all his brothers”, took pride in destroying his brother’s works, and above all else, did not try to beg the emperor to ease his punishment.
It was not the emperor who turned Lorgar, but the son who has shown to be thirsty of being the ruler, the one who created the heretical Imperium Secundus, and tried to hide its history even to the 42nd millennium. The greatest traitor and most dishonorable of all primarchs, Rowboat Girlyman.
Word bears were not slouches
YES I KNOW THAT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANGRON OR WORLD EATERS. PLEASE FIRST FULLY READ THIS MESSAGE A FEW TIMES BEFORE TAKING SOME TIME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS SAID BEFORE REPLYING:
After seeing one of the images you used, I now NEED Kratos to be a World Eater! And I'm not talking mature beard Kratos. I want that toxic Greek goatee Kratos!!
And he needs to have some serious issue with Angron about the weakness of submitting to the nails. Which he says as he has Angron, slumped in front of him, and rips the nails out of his head. Then he looks in the eyes of Angron, blade of Chaos in hand and says 'Let me show you true rage! BOY!".
Anyone who disagrees are a hater. Not a WH40K or GOW hater. Just someone with an issue about others being happy and excited.
Are you a hater? Do you want to make people sad? Well dear hater, you have already been doing this for years without ever knowing.
Kratos isnt in 40k and this video is about world bearers not the word eaters
I feel bad for Lorgar he plotted, and he schemed and did whatever he had to to achieve his objective and at the moment of truth.. it was his time to take what is his he shits the bed. Why couldn't he have just gone for it? andEvenn if he lost to Horus, there is no shame to losing to someone better than you.. At least you tried. Terrible writing by gw imo

Someone who calls himself "the Emperor of Mankind" should have a better understanding of human psychology.
this is corpse lord propaganda Word Bearers are the only decent faction.
I know I'm being that guy but "Iconoclast" is not a good way to describe the Word Bearers. The actual Iconoclasts were still Christians they just saw the using of icons in worship as just paganism with extra steps, if they were right or not I don't know and I don't care, I know though that you maybe need to change it to something else
I think its simply rhetoric.
The iconoclasts were wrong
Heretic Astartes is also the wrong term for them. Apostate Astartes perhaps?
I believe the Emperor would have known all the myriad religions prior to the “births” of the primarchs. Which I think is why the Emperor berated Lorgar and his children; as being misguided and petulant. Now I’m going to have to buy the Word Bearers’ omnibus and other novels. Great talking points!!!💯
The use of the word iconoclast today is figurative and is not directly referring to the Byzantine iconoclasts. Today it means: "a person who attacks settled beliefs or institutions" or "a person who destroys religious images or opposes their veneration". Both seem quite apt for the word bearers attack on the imperial truth.
Bud, you got Lorgar’s time on his home world wrong, he was “adopted” by Kor Phaeron, not by The Brotherhood. Kor Phaeron led a band of outcast nomads who Lorgar overtook as their leader, he assembled other outcasts under his banner then declared war.
They had no idea of him until he showed up at their doorstep. The old faith was stamped out but kept alive by Kor Phaeron. It would be wise to do more than skim a wiki and spread misinformation cause you got almost everything wrong.
excellent lore mate enjoying your channel alot carry on sir . Blood for the blood god
Lorgar hasn’t been seen because he has spent 10,000 years hiding from corax who slapped him out even after he ascended lol
