  • Today's video is the unboxing, setup and review of the Sicce Whale 500 Canister Filter. In the video, I explain how to properly setup this canister and a few tips and suggestions that have worked in my experience.
    We cover the filter media stages and a few recommendations on what to put in the Sicce Whale Canister. Overall, the Sicce Whale has a ton of volume and room for media, along with great reviews on performance. They are at a lower price point compared to the largest canisters, but are also in line with the next tier of quality filters. On initial review, it's a great filter, and we will be sure to give performance updates over time.

    I run these on two of my tanks as secondary filtration. They’ve run great for about a year now. They’re quiet as can be and maintenance is relatively easy. I’ve only needed to use the self primer a couple of times since the disconnect keeps water in the hoses. This helps get the siphon going after reconnecting the hoses after maintenance.

    I ordered this today. Thanks for the video and review. I bought a new sunsun 304b which leaked repeatedly so I returned it never to purchase anything from sunsun again. SICCE is a great company that make great HOB filters nice to see they make quality canisters too!

    I like the alarm on the canister to make you aware of no water in it, I to had the same Sunsun running on my tank as a secondary filter then as a primary on another tank, but the drone from it drove me crazy and that alone made me go buy an FX6 as a secondary for my 125 S.American giant cichlid tank. Then I picked up a Fluval 307 for my 55gal S.American community tank, I’m gonna do some research and keep an eye out on these Sicce whale canisters for if and when I need a new one👍👍👍

    Nice filter but I would switch the chemical media to have it be on top so its the last thing the water hits and plus it will make it easier when changing it every month since its at the very top.

    Nice filter! Good honest review. Big step up from that crappy sunsun. I used one for awhile I am not a fan. I wish they would make a larger version of the WHALE to live up to it’s namesake. Sicce makes quality stuff so,it should be a solid filter as a secondary or 3rd filter on a large tank. I have the exact same tank as yours with 2 - FX6 and a Seachem tidal 110. You can never have enough for messy African cichlids!

    I’m setting up a 75 gallon tank now and I bought the Sicce Whale 500. I primed it for a really long time. No air was coming out of the tubes but I continued to prime for a long time. Every time I try to plug it in I get this loud screeching of the impeller. Customer Service hasn’t gotten back to me in over 4 days. I don’t know what else to do. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  • @BassManStrikes
    @BassManStrikes Před rokem +2

    I just got one and was surprised at how small the 500 is. Also the intake and outake fitters don't really fit well on my 75 gallon tank, seems to be designed for a smaller tank with a smaller plastic rim.

    Don't buy. Filter itself is just OK. I bought 2 whale 500 for my 125 after I watched a review video in 2021. The problem is that if you live in the US, good luck finding replacement parts beside the useless filter sponge. Canadian sites won't ship to US and the rest are all Euro sites and the shipping cost as much as the parts themselves.....

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  Před rokem +1

      There’s a 5 year warranty, so that removes the need for replacement parts. Also, we’ve continued to run Whales in many setups for 2-3 years without an issue.
