Xylitol is non-dietary sugar alcohol. Its main benefit is in dental hygiene. It mimics natural sugars so well that it fits in the correct "hole" in the bacteria that causes cavity, tricking it to consider it as food. But since it is not food, it will remain in that "hole" and block it, and the bacteria dies as a result. It also neutralizes mouth pH. If you are travelling always keep xylitol gum or candies with you, chew them after eating and you won't arrive in your hotel with a bad breath... it does not replace brushing but it can delay it. Its one of those traveling tips that once you try it, you will never not-do it. Like, having an extra pair of socks in carry-on luggage..

Former Microsoft executive become a president of Nokia, which then acted as a negotiator on the sell for Microsoft, and once the deal was done he got a lot of money as a thanks and he got a well paying job at Microsoft again. So he probably was a mole all along that was sent to Nokia to make the deal happen.

This is what is known by AI: Stephen Elop, the former president of Microsoft’s Business Division, was appointed as the CEO of Nokia in September 2010 12. He was hired to help usher in new changes at Nokia and implement its turnaround strategy. In 2013, Microsoft announced that it would acquire Nokia’s device and services division for $7.2 billion. After the acquisition, Elop returned to Microsoft as the Executive Vice President of the Devices Group. He was responsible for the development of Microsoft’s hardware products, including the Surface tablet and Lumia smartphones. NOKIA was in rubber manufacturing industry originally, Nokia Tires was also part of it. But thru its history it has always been looking for new areas to expand to and bought companies to get the knowhow. They first bought a cable making company, then expanded to electronics, then to communication networks. And communication networks has always been #1 field for Nokia, even during the mobile phone boom of the 90s, its bread&butter was networks. In fact, the only reason they got into the mobile phone game was to provide customer products for the networks they were building.... There is a LOT of money to be made when you build infrastructure.
Mobile 101: The Nokia Story is a miniseries that i definitely recommend. It is well written, well acted, well directed.. it is overall very good. Just one caveat, it paints Jorma Ollila, the CEO at the time with VERY broad and finely tuned strokes.. he is made to be much better person than he is. So, take those bits with a grain of salt, he was basically part of the writing team and it shows...

But then there was that hostile takeover from Microsoft with the first North American CEO coming from Microsoft and ending MeeGo and transferring to Microsoft's operating system which was a bad joke. I had been a loyal Nokia customer since Nokia 2110i, but after N95 I was thinking about Nokia N900, but then MeeGo was sacked and I had to buy a Samsung Galaxy S I. When HMD Global bought Nokia back as an Android phone there were already more interesting options available. Like OnePlus phones.

Nokia and us Finnish folks are the reason we have these mobile devices. Nokia pioneered a lot of that stuff and were innovative on a whole other level. Mobile devices have fallen into this incremental advancement cycle which provides a little more processing power per year and nothing really changes all that much... When Nokia was still running things on this side, there were multiple new things invented and the devices didn't just get a new processor to fuel the data crunch, but things that were really wow inducing. Mistakes were made along the way though and shacking up with Microsoft was the fatal blow to this industry here in Finland. It was fun while it lasted, but now we are left with no one to push the boundaries of these devices and things are not advancing any more in any meaningful way. Mobile devices have come a long way from the initial car phones to these compact devices we have today.

I remember when one of my relatives climbed to a roof to do some job, they swayed a bit and their Nokia phone dropped onto asphalt.
It worked well many years after that. Disclaimer, their phone took even a dip in the toilet and lake and it worked.
Imagine dropping a smartphone, would it survive as well as Nokia did? 😂

Lol what do you mean Apple doesn't have a rival? Nobody uses iPhones here, it's all Android country. (In reality 35% use iPhones, 65% some Android device.) I would never touch an iPhone if it wasn't for work related stuff, but my personal smart phone has Android.

Nokia stopped making phones after the mistake of going to bed with Microsoft, but a company called HMD global makes the brand name Nokia. I wouldn't compare Nokia, old or new with Apple. Nokia has always been affordable. The new HMD Nokia phones are also affordable for folks who cannot afford to buy Apple products. This message is written on HMD Nokia phone that cost under £200.

I think a big part of Nokia falling off in the phone market, was them focusing on windows phones, instead of going with Android like everyone else.

Matti didn't invent text messaging, he was the first one to implement it in a commercial phone in 1994. The first commercial deployment of a short message service center (SMSC) was by Aldiscon part of Logica (now part of CGI) with Telia (now TeliaSonera) in Sweden in 1993.
The protocol was invented in 1986 and the first text message was " Merry christmas" that was sent by engineers at Vodaphone in 1992.

Finland didn't invent the mobile phone.
Ask a lefthanded how good fiskars Scissors are. Finns didn't invent EKG either. Better to talk about Linux, which e.g. Android is based on. A true Finnish invention.

I think she doesn't really know what EKG is. She showed a picture of a wireless heart rate monitor which was the Finnish invention she was talking about but EKG is not the same thing at all. But she didn't say that Finns invented the mobile phone but that Nokia phones where Finnish.
I'm happy to tell you that Fiskars makes great scissors for left handed people aswell ✂.

@@bengtolsson5436 What really is an invention? Usually these kind of lists consist of more than just things that are strictly considered patented inventions. Nokia phones were a phenomenon just like the Angry Birds game is. But I'm sure that Nokia also had many patented parts in their phones if that is the measure of an invention.
She could've also talk about AIV-fodder which really was an important invention and earned a Nobel prize to it's inventor, a Finnish chemist Artturi Virtanen. Or the inventions in medical technology like the modern digital blood pressure meters by Omron.
