I’ve been a philosophical utilitarian since I was pretty young: whatever causes the most good and the least bad is usually the best option. That’s why, when my elementary school pals were drooling over 911 Turbos and Fords Mustang and GT90, I just wanted a Chevrolet Caprice or Buick Roadmaster Estate. Utilitarians don’t like sports cars.
Even as a seven-year-old, I recognized that a Ferrari F40 would only let you bring just one friend along, with no room for dogs, two-wheeler bikes, model airplanes, or Hot Wheels race tracks. For that stuff, you needed a wagon. Imagine six-year-old Brett’s shock, then, if you told him that in 28 years, he would drive something that carries a bunch of stuff and accelerates faster than almost every 1990s supercar, all while getting about 30 miles per gallon and enabling about 40 miles of zero-emissions, all-electric driving if desired. That’s the case of the 2023 Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered - the utilitarian’s dream.

You don't need to take the rears off to adjust the ohlins, simply jacking the car will work. I actually can adjust mine without even jacking the car. My driveway isn't entirely flat and I can put the car in a spot where one of the rear wheels has enough space to get my hand above the tire and adjust the knob. Then I turn the car around and do the same on the other wheel. Total adjustment time for me is about 2 minutes, although I really don't need to adjust it often.
I have a 2023. I have a 240v plug in my garage and at my business. It charges from half to full in an about 100 minutes and from empty to full in about 3 hours. ALSO - the V60 i.c.e. engine recharges the battery while driving in about an hour. I have never gotten less than 35 miles on battery. In addition - you CAN tell the difference between Polestar version of V60 from cross country or regular V60 from the non-chrome - blacked out exterior trim - particularly the grill, the exclusive-to-Polestar-version wheels, the gold Brembo brakes and the lowered height. Although the exclusivity and uniqueness of the V60 Polestar compared the other brands that you mentioned is a appealing, perhaps the most compelling advantage the V60 Polestar has is the THOUSANDS of dollars in federal, state and factory incentives due to it being a PHEV (I took advantage of about $9000's worth).
i think as of 2023 its only a turbo charged engine (no longer twin charged with S/C)
second this
Correct. It was actually half way through the 2022 model year, unofficially called the 22.5 that they changed to the larger “Extended Range” battery pack. Along with that battery and more powerful electric drive, the supercharger was ditched.
Many journalists get this wrong. Some even acknowledge their error.
Yep that “smooth handoff between the supercharger and the turbo” is a bit of a superfluous comment.
The 120V charge time is much longer than 10 hours, probably closer to 20 hours. About 5.5 hours on 240, it's limited to 3.3 kWh charge rates. Also, most people on the forums, myself included get 45+ on EV only.
Not really. The charging power rate has been bumped up to the 6.4kW (at least on 230V in Europe). Also, kW and kWh are not the same thing. Cheers!
45 miles electric? That’s 72km. Nice
Volvo has always created its own category in the automotive world. More affordable than its competition and better than most.
The most direct competitor is the Audi A6 Allroad, similar in many ways but still different in some ;)
the british touring cars were tuned by TWR racing and not polestar
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SHIRT!?
Imagine an electrified version of the 1960s P1800 sedan & ES1800 wagon. ❤
Wait, you don’t like that it doesn’t have paddle shifters? Does that mean you can’t drive stick?
automatic transmissions can't look forward into a turn and anticipate acceleration zone, that's where a paddle shifter would come into play. Plus, this car doesn't come with a manual.
Performance of 6 / 10? EV range of 25 -35 miles....I see most people getting 40 - 45 miles, how can that be that far off? I agree with your conclusion but the performance + efficiency + practicality of this car make it so it has no / very few peers.
Regenerative braking
Wow, talk about an undersell.
6/10 for the acceleration? Where real-time from 0-100 is about 4.2sek (RaceBox). Very reliable review...🤣 You know that this is standard T8 with "Sport" package named "Polestar"? It's like M-package for BMW... This is PHEV, not car like M3 or AMG 🤦 It's simply a fast and luxurious PHEV with the Sport package and should be considered as such.
Why in world couldn't they have placed a very small motor on top of the Ohlins suspension to automatically twist the knob for immediate adjustment? Seems like they cared more to just boast the Ohlins name on the marketing sheet.
Right? Motorcycles can adjust springs with a flick of a switch
BMW M3 isn't a wagon...........
It is in Europe...
But it is a Volvo. Yawn.
